What is OmniLit/ARe? It's good to see Scribd is working for you! I'm curious to see how Amazon's ad will help you. My year has been disappointing, too. My free eBook gets plenty of downloads. I have heard other authors say their book sales are down. One reason is there are more Indie authors self-publishing. Another reason is “in my opinion” Amazon Unlimited is hurting authors. Why would a reader pay for my eBook when there are thousands upon thousands of other books to read for free? Yet, I refuse to be paid so little for my nonfiction books. Half a cent for each page read is crazy! And at one point Amazon was having issues with their page turner, which caused unrecorded reads. I rather make less sales and get paid what my books are worth.
“Hey guys! This is the last communication you shall receive from me. I now walk out to live amongst the wild. Take care, it was great knowing you” (Qtd. In Krakauer 69). After graduating from Emory University, Christopher McCandless abandoned everything, gave his entire savings account to charity, and then hitchhiked to Alaska to live in the wild. In the novel, Into the Wild, Was McCandless justified in shunning society? McCandless was justified in shunning society because he simply wanted to find himself and be independent without any distractions from his friends or family.
Having escaped rule from a tyrannical British government, the United States was founded on ideals of freedom and equality for all people. These fantasies of universal egalitarianism turned out to be merely that: fantasies. American history is full of stories of the oppressed struggling to get the rights they deserve and of the controversy over these issues that consequently ensues. “The Hypocrisy of American Slavery” by Frederick Douglass and “We Shall Overcome” by Lyndon B. Johnson are two speeches made confronting two of these issues. Douglass’s speech, delivered in 1852, condemns the institution of slavery and maintains that slaves are men and are therefore entitled to freedom. Johnson’s speech, on the other hand, was written in 1965 and discussed the civil rights movement. In it, he implored local governments to allow all American citizens, regardless of race, to vote. Despite the significant gap in time between these two addresses, both speakers use similar persuasive techniques, including ethos, pathos, and parallelism, to convince their audience that change needs to be implemented in America.
Being an athletes is one of the best-paid jobs on Earth. Being that they are paid so much the cost for the consumer is very high. The prices of tickets and sports memorabilia have been steadily rising over the years. The average ticket prices for the NHL, MLB, NBA and NFL all rose 5% to 10% this year, according to Jon Greenberg, executive editor of Team Marketing Report. (Mihoces).
Why spend money that is really needed for other things? Why live uncomfortably? Why be trapped in this hole called a home that belongs to another person? Why not live free and peacefully? When a person rents he or she usually throws away money that could be used to purchase something that belongs to them. Money is not easy to come by so why pay out hundreds toward something that is not benefit to the person paying it out. There is no good explanation for making a decision like this. The best option in a situation like this is to buy a house. Buying a house is a better option than renting an apartment.

If you're like most people, despite wintery conditions, you still have places to be and people to see. Although snowy weather can be a beautiful sight to see, it can also be frightful if it turns into an icy mix – making for difficult travel conditions.
“Your assignment is to write a persuasive essay and present it to the class in a week. You will be graded based on how convincing it is. Today we will be choosing topics,” announced Mr. Bowerbank, my 7th grade English teacher and ruler of classroom 110. My class simultaneously groaned at the prospect of work. I simply lifted my head with intrigue as it was already May and about time we had our first essay. He then proceeded to give examples of topics we could choose and gave us some time to think before we had to tell him our topic. My classmates were already rushing to tell the teacher their idea lest someone else steal it. That meant the usual abortion, death penalty, or drug use topics were out. I really couldn't think of anything and the teacher was slowly making his way through the remaining students like an executioner beheading criminals in a line. I have always thought that he would make a marvelous supervillain if he had a curly mustache, a tophat, and a cape. Eventually my name was called. I slowly dragged myself over to his desk. Even sitting down, he still seemed to tower over me. “What is your topic Cindy?” As usual in such desperate times, my mind turned to food. “Waffles are better than pancakes.” I figured that a waffle was just a differently shaped pancake with a nicer texture. “Hmm. Excellent topic. I look forward to your essay!” I survived to live yet another day.
One of the most annoying things in the world is going shopping. It's not like getting new stuff is a complete nightmare, it's just the part where you have to interact with people, deal with lines, look at prices, figure out how much money you have, and so on. That stuff really gets me. What's even worse that shopping is grocery shopping. If you go to a grocery store on a weekend, you might as well take a Xanax before you walk in the door. Nothing makes me want to scream like a old people standing in the way of an entire aisle and then looking at you like you're doing something wrong.
Imagine if the internet was not “open and free” like it is today. How would you like to pay more for internet access just because you like to use Netflix? Currently the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulates telephone and cable companies that provide internet service in the United States. Currently, all internet service providers are prohibited from blocking any content on the internet. Unless you live under a rock, you have probably at least heard the term “net neutrality”. Net neutrality is a principle that Internet service providers (ISP’s) should treat all network traffic equally. This means ISPs like Comcast, AT&T or Verizon should not restrict or slow down access to any website or other internet content. Companies like Comcast want to do this to make their own services more desirable than those of their competitors because they are more easily accessible, but not necessarily better. Internet service providers should not have the right
Sometimes I ask myself: what if I did this? What if I did that? Would it make a difference? Well, if I did nothing and kept wondering, I would never know. What person does is more important than what a person thinks because actions can affect others and accomplish goals.
What is perfection? Is it having a thin waist but big thighs, is it having strong cheekbones and thick lips. In this world today the definition of ‘perfect’ is having all the required or desirable elements, qualities, or characteristics; as good as it is possible. In this day and age the possibility is endless on what you could achieve but this is only if you have a lot of money. So who is the culprit to blame for this, the only thing we can blame is Social Media as it has shown teenagers the ‘proper’ way to look which is very unrealistic. For an example of unrealistic, take a look at Kylie Jenner, she has everything most would say, large breast implants and a lot of lip filler, expensive luxuries. Every time she posts a picture

Freedom of speech and freedom of press have been points of controversy for as long as they have been understood as fundamental human rights. In the past, the expression of these rights would almost always be public, but with the introduction of computers and the Internet, there are countless opportunities for anyone to voice his or her mind on a variety of websites and forums. With such an effective avenue to have your voice heard, it is not surprising that many people take advantage of the Internet to discuss issues they have with several topics ranging from government and politics to company policies. The right to speak out against the government is explicitly protected by the Bill of Rights, but the rules of speaking out against a private company are not so transparent. If an employee says something online that is to the detriment of the company the employee works for, either by defaming the company or breaking the company’s set of rules, should the employee’s right to free speech have higher precedence than the company’s right to uphold its rules? One case that perfectly portrays this debate is Google’s recent firing of its former employee, James Damore, due to a controversial memo that Damore posted.
It’s a few days before the annual (TOWN NAME) County Fair. You and six friends decide you want to get out of the area and go camping for a week. Without planning much, you all pack supplies that you may desire and other items from your home for camping — assuring that you aren’t carrying too much, you head off into the vast mountains. After trekking several miles you find your way into a very large, vegetated sinkhole in a remote area of the bush and name it “Hell”. Your friends and you set up the camp for a week.
On September 5, 2017, Matt Harrell, passionately presented on whether or not it was ethical to use Hellfire, Brimstone, and Damnation as fear tactics to get people to behave morally. Harrell took the stance that this was unethical and I agree with him. It is unethical to threaten people with hell and damnation to try and convince them to behave morally. It is also inhumane to frighten people with hellfire and brimstone. This is not The Gospel of Jesus Christ and street corner preachers who harshly call out the sins in those passing by are not accurately representing God. No one in this universe is without sin; therefore none of us should be the first one to cast a stone at another brother or sister.
