America is a free country, and voting is an important part of that freedom. Unlike other countries where dictators and monarchs make decisions on behalf of the people, Americans get the right to decide who runs the country and what laws should govern the citizens. But even though voting is an important privilege, most Americans don 't vote.
Many American citizens don 't vote because they think their vote doesn 't count. This is a common excuse that people believe that whether they cast a vote or not, ultimately the Electoral College will decide who becomes president. But reality, the popular vote in each state determines which candidate the Electoral College endorses for that state. Therefore, your vote does count within your state, and

These include Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Greece and Singapore, to name a few. Twelve of these nations aggressively enforce the compulsion of voting, giving penalties and charging fees who violate such law. One of these is Australia. It has been requiring its citizens to participate in federal elections since 1924. The country’s argument to this strict mandate is that it needs to address low voter turnout, which is currently below 60 percent.
At a federal level law, I propose that it will be mandatory for all U.S citizens to vote on election days. The complete law is as written out on the statement below:
Compulsory Voting Law
“All U.S citizens at the age of 18 or older must be registered and vote on all election days. All businesses must schedule employees paid time off throughout the day (minimum 2 hours during business hours), or the business may close for the entire day. All ballots must be mailed-in, turned-in, or casted by 8pm local time zone. Anyone who objects to vote on voting day will be penalized with a fine and sentenced to jail time.”
Voting is a right that was given to us by the democracy government system. I believe that when it comes to voting everybody participate in their civil duty much like jury duty, or doing your taxes if they are of age. Instead of giving U.S citizens the option to vote, making it mandatory to vote will ensure that everybody will have a say into how
Americans are fortunate enough to have the right to vote, so we should take opportunity to be heard. “...many Americans do not vote” (Doc BE). Some Americans do not take the chance to vote. For example, “Since World War II, no presidential election has ever involved 65% or more of registered voters!” (Doc BE). Voting is important because, “People express their consent or disapproval in many different ways” (Doc BE).
A very controversial topic in the United States is whether or not Americans should be required to vote. Voting is a very essential piece to democracy, but many Americans today are not attending their voting location and supporting the candidate they feel is best. In recent elections, just 60% of registered voters casted their vote for a candidate. This is an issue that many people are not happy about, but whether or not there is reason to fix it is the other side to the case. Voter participation is an issue that has been going on for years, and no laws are in place currently to bring it up. Americans have been proud to live in a “free country”, and a law forcing citizens to vote may be against America’s principles. Compulsory voting should
Americans should not be required to vote, the amount of votes will go up. But since they are not aware of who they are voting for would cause chaos. If they have a problem and want to have their say in the elections they should be able to without be required to with an influence of something. They would still need more ways to higher the voting percentage. But they could do that with several ads convincing them so they have the mindset of voting. Now the odds of the least liked candidate to be voted in to win is fifty fifty.
What is more American than voting? This right has been fought for by many groups and people throughout the life of our country. From the people in our history books to the everyday person fighting for their rights, voting has been yearned for by many. However, even with voting being such a big deal, voter turnout is low for America and still there are some Americans who can’t vote. With so much being done throughout the years to get the vote to Americans, we’d expect high voter turnout and everyone being able to vote, but that isn’t true and it needs to change. We should make voting required as turnout will rise, more people would get involved in the government, and more people will be able to vote.
In some countries there are legal repercussions for not voting, such as Australia. In ancient Grease, all citizens were required to vote at election time under penalty of imprisonment. This may not be the best course of action for America, were people might see it as imposing on there freedom of choice. There are other less dramatic options that can be considered.
In America you can vote, why?; because we have a democracy in which people are in charge and vote for what they want and believe in. Voting is a constitutional right in which all American citizens have such as my parents. My parents vote in what they believe in and my mom is even a politician so people vote for her. It's important to vote because we can express our opinions and it could change our future.
Do you vote in every election? Would you like it if you were punishing for not voting? Should Americans be required to vote? There are three reasons why Americans should not be required to vote countries with non compulsory, or not required, voting have higher voter satisfaction rates, people who don’t want to vote might leave their ballots blank, and people who don’t want to vote shouldn’t have to vote.
The American citizens should vote because if they want to see a change that will benefit them as a citizen of the country, it is mandatory for them to partake in the elections in order for the changes to be made. “An argument against compulsory voting is that it is inconsistent with the freedom associated with Democracy” . However , the true meaning associated with Democracy is that it is a system of government in which a power vests in the people. Through this way , the American citizens voices will be heard.
Not everyone has the privilege of being able to vote. Only American citizens can vote, and it is an honor to do so since voting allows citizens to take part in the U.S government.
According to text 2 lines 1-2, “All democratic governments consider participating in national elections a right of citizenship and a citizen’s civic responsibility.” However, voting is not an essential obligation to the people. It is always said that “America is a free country”. But would you be taking away people’s rights by forcing them to vote? According to text
Voting is privilege given to Americans. Many people don’t know how lucky they are to have the privilege to give their opinion on who leads our country. It took many years for the U.S to get voting rights equalized for all citizens; so everyone should take advantage of this. Participating in voting should be happening by every eligible person in the U.S. A person’s characteristics will effect whether or not they are going to participate in voting. It can either positively affect the person or negatively. Also registering and knowing where and how to register and where too actually vote can effect whether or not a person will participate in voting. A major aspect effecting voting is a person’s family history; if growing up in a family where
At the moment only around 53% of the American population votes. Voting should definitely be a mandatory responsibility to ensure that our political leaders are chosen accurately. Throughout history voting rights have continued to be a big deal, minorities suffrage protests were fought hard in order to make voting a right for anyone. People should not dismiss their chance to participate in determining who will be governing, instead everyone should have to be involved.
Voting is a crucial process and should be taken very seriously. Even though this process is essential, in that citizens have a means of letting their voices be heard, not everyone should vote. Voting in a country is a privilege and should not be granted to non- citizens, undocumented immigrants and even felons.
If we lived in a country such as China or North Korea we would not even have the option to vote and I think it is important to recognize that we live in a country where we at least have an option to vote. Going to the polls may be seen as an inconvenience to some, but in countries where they do not even have the option to give some sort of opinion, the United States appears to be a fortunate society. We are lucky to not only be able to vote in local and state level elections, but to have a say in congress members and president as well. Of course the election system is different at all levels of government but is it better to have no say at all or to at least try and make a difference. Not voting is completely a personal choice however I feel as though you are not entitled to complain about the government or the state of the country because you didn’t make an effort to voice your
In America citizens have the right to vote if you are eighteen or older. A lot of people believe if you are eligible to vote then you should be required to vote. Another viewpoint is if you do not know what you are voting over and how it will affect our country then you should not vote. The last big viewpoint on voting is that people do not think their vote truly counts in the long run they think the electoral college takes the biggest amount of our votes. In 2012, just over half of the Americans eligible to vote actually voted with the Presidential Election.
