In the two sources, “Our Country” and the “Platform of the American Antiimperialist League”, the issue of American imperialism is being discussed. There are two opposing views about American imperialism being discussed in the two sources, one for and one against. American Imperialism in “Platform of the American Antiimperialist League” was seen in a negative light, while American imperialism was seen as something that must happen to demonstrate the greatness of
This primary source assists in answering the question, “Was imperialism constructive or deconstructive,” as it gives numerous examples of how the US imperialising Hawai’i was constructive. The examples included the ways the Hawaiians and Hawai’i benefited from being a territory of the US. Since the speech gives a clear western perspective on the US imperialising Hawai’i and clearly shows the audience whether imperialism was constructive or destructive for a western perspective, it is valuable. Therefore, the examples and the clear perspective provided assists in answering the overall question of whether imperialism was constructive or destructive. Regardless of the valuable information sources possess, they all also have limitations. The first limitation of the source is that the speech doesn’t show both sides of imperialism. This is because the speech only demonstrates how imperialism was constructive, and doesn’t state anything about how it may have been destructive. Another limitation is that the speech was written from a western perspective, therefore it was written from the perspective of the people from the country that was
Throughout history, many powerful nations interfered with nations that were weaker than they were. This form of sabotaging a nation is economic, political or cultural life is called as imperialism. Imperialism is often separated into two sects. The first one is old imperialism, which was the period from the 1500s to the 1800s, where European nation started to colonize many areas such as the Americas, and parts of Southeast Asia. On the other hand, the new imperialism was the period between the years “1870-1914”, where Europe became more focused on expanding their land into Asia and Africa. Imperialism had many pros and cons. In the Voices of Freedom, the passage explains the idea of American imperialism during the 1890s. It was written by a Filipino revolutionary and politician Emilio Aguinaldo. He was writing about the how the United States are taking over countries and limit their freedoms. Emilio's document was specifically describing the United States' occupation of the Philippines after the Spanish American War. The Question is that "Why does Aguinaldo think that the United States is betraying its own values?". Emilio thinks that the U.S is betraying its own value because they follow the practice of imperialism.
American Imperialism has been a part of United States history ever since the American Revolution. Imperialism is the practice by which large, powerful nations seek to expand and maintain control or influence on a weaker nation. Throughout the years, America has had a tendency to take over other people's land. America had its first taste of Imperialistic nature back when Columbus came to America almost five hundred years ago. He fought the inhabitants with no respect for their former way of life, took their land, and proceeded to enslave many of these Native Americans. The impact of the 1820's and 1830's on American Imperialism is undeniable. Although the military power was not fully there during this time period, their ideals and foreign
I think that American imperialism was partly a success but mostly a failure. It was sort of a success because America was able to expand and take over many nations to have more land which was the goal, but it was also a failure because after gaining domination in many nations, the U.S. was unable to meet the amount of responsibility it required to take care of all the land. The struggles that America faced in taking care of the nation were shared in a poem written by Rudyard Kipling titled “The White Man’s Burden”1 and I believe that the poem is a good example of how imperialism did work but how it was regretted by America. It also failed because it went against the constitution, created hostility between nations, and it destroyed lasting cultures and promoted the idea of Americans being superior.
American Imperialism became relevant in the United States government and has influenced American foreign policies. American Imperialism has effected the foreign policies in a negative way for both Americans and the countries who agree to our policies.
With the late 19th century came a great change in the ideas of expansionism in the United States, but also a continuation of its ideals. The idea of imperialism, where the United States would extend its power around the globe, stood in contrast with the original Manifest Destiny ideal of the 1840s and 1850s when America was expanding west from ‘sea to shining sea.’ However, the inherent social and cultural sentiments were still present in the late 19th century expansionism, though the economic and political purposes had changed.

Josiah Strong, a reverend and famous Protestant clergyman, wrote in his book, Our Country, about why the United States should support imperialism. He himself is American, but where exactly in America is unknown. It is important that this established, as it makes it easier to understand his motivations for promoting what he thinks are best interests for America. The exact date of this publication is not given, but further research states it is from 1885. At around 1885 was a period of time where imperialism was a concept which was spreading quickly to many large countries, and there were many who supported it in the United States. His book, given the quote, appears to embrace American imperialism for spreading the ideals of the United

The United States experienced a period of growth and maturation during the twentieth century. Now, this is not to say that this was the only period of growth, but it was a significant time during which the United States began to establish its military force at an international level. By establishing itself during the twentieth century as one of the world’s largest superpowers, America grew to be respected by most of the world’s nations. America also grew to become much more active in foreign affairs, even in ones that had no relation to the nation. The United States began to look for chances to expand their country, as well as opportunities to benefit financially from these territories. Imperialism is the word that best describes the foreign

Imperialism began in the 1870s, European states established vast empires mainly in Africa, but also in Asia and the Middle East. Imperialism can be used as an act of expanding used as an act of developing a country’s empire through the use of force, colonization, or coercion. This method can be used to benefit one or both sides of the process. By means of benefiting one side would be considered as being a world bully because the nation is trying to expand or develop with the help of others without doing the other nation any good. As a result of advancing both nations can give a nation the name of a world leader with it helping both sides, everyone is developing in a way to help not just themselves, but others as well. America used imperialism for the good or bad as long as they got something out of it in some way. Many in the U.S. thought that country must be able to compete and saw the opportunity to take its own colonies before European countries got them all. Colonial powers often struggled with each other over the best potential features. These motives tend to believe its purpose is gaining additional wealth, power, and control. America used this approach as an intimidator to get economic growth, expand their political power, spread of the culture’s religion, and build military and naval bases.
