Thank you for taking the time to review my senior project: hosting an American Red Cross blood drive. I nearly chose to job shadow instead, but after taking some time to think about my main weaknesses, I decided that a blood drive would help me improve in these areas more than job shadowing. The main shortcoming I sought to improve was a general shyness around strangers; organizing a blood drive takes more planning and interaction with strangers than most job shadowing. In addition, I have already had an experience similar to job shadowing, but more valuable to me. Instead of following someone around and observing them, I had the wonderful opportunity of working alongside various CNAs and even RNs, getting my hands dirty right along with them.

It is this job that developed my desire to work in the healthcare field. After researching the different options available, I focused on respiratory care. I independently set up a job shadow with a Respiratory Therapist in a hospital. This job shadowing experience only ensured me this is the career path for me. Therefore my job at the nursing home is beneficial because it provides an opportunity to learn valuable skills that will help me in my respiratory therapy career while earning money to fund my education.
Identity that which we all struggle to find. Miklo is the very same case in Taylor Hackford’s Blood In Blood Out who struggles to prove himself as a Chicano due to his white skin however culturally Miklo is as Chicano as anyone in Onda. The most important part of this dynamic, is that when Miklo gets arrested for killing spider, a rival gang leader, the prison gang system is divided by race and skin color all which he is stuck in the middle of. In prison, is where he would meet Magic a member of spider’s gang which openly fought with Miklo’s gang Vatos Locos. They quickly become friends despite their previous conflicts and confrontations between the two gangs because as Popeye mentioned everything is determined by race. This is relevant as in
The most commonly known gang in the area are the Bloods. According to many of the detectives in the office, they are the most vicious and most violent gangs they have ever encountered. State versus Gillens and Mercer are one of those encounters. The Bloods, or the United Blood Nation, was developed around 1972. The Crips were dominating the streets of L.A. and were battling with multiple street gangs. After a rumble with the street gang Pirus and murdering an L.A. Brim, the street gangs had enough of the Crip’s intimidation. They decided to unite all the street gangs which consisted of the Piru Street Boys in Compton, L.A. Brim, the Pueblos, the Bishops, Athens Park Boys, and the Denver Lanes. Soon enough they called their new gang the Bloods and took on the color red to show their opposition against the Crips (Savelli, 2002). In 1993, the Bloods made their way over to the East Coast and developed within the New York City jail system on Riker’s Island George Mochen Detention Center. It was formed as a means of protection for African American inmates from the Latin Kings (Savelli, 2002). Soon enough, the East Coast Bloods flooded out of the jail system and onto the streets of New York and New Jersey.
There are four blood types found in humans. These are A blood type which has the genotype either AA or AO, B blood type which has the genotype either BB or BO, AB blood type which has the genotype AB, and O blood type which has the genotype OO. These genotypes show a combination of complete dominance and codominance. A and B traits are dominant to the recessive O trait, however, the A trait is codominant to the B trait. Each blood type codes for certain antigens. A blood codes for the A surface antigen, B blood codes for the B surface antigen, AB blood codes for both the A and B surface antigen, and O blood does not code for a surface antigen. Therefore to determine one’s blood type a test can be performed
The purpose of this experiment is to identify the different blood types through the antigen and antibody reaction by using the anti- A, Anti- B and Anti- Rh serums we will be able to identify the different blood types. We will also discuss how this can be used in the clinical setting of this blood typing procedure, by doing so we will know how antigens and antibodies relate to the blood typing procedure in the real world settings.
Going into this job shadowing experience I did not expect to get hands on experience the way I did on some days. On some days I got to go in patients rooms and interact and make conversation with the patient. The nurse guided me, and showed me what exactly her day was like and what she was going to do with the patient that day. Some patients were better off than others which was very sad to see but is also reality. Once I get a job in this field I have to realize that.
belonging and family, whereas in the outside world they were seen as enemies. As a result, it becomes apparent that minorities from different backgrounds face similar difficulties when trying to assimilate into the American culture. It is through these difficulties that they begin to develop feelings of loneliness, and what can potentially motivate them to go down a path of delinquency, as it is a lot easier than having to face the challenges of trying to adapt to a different culture.
The Lord Giveth, and the Lord Maketh Responsible The word “gift” according to the Oxford American Dictionary means “a thing given willingly to someone without payment; a present.” According to Flannery O'Connor, author of Mystery and Manners, “A gift of any kind is a considerable responsibility” (Shreve). In today's world, a gift can very easily become categorized as something wrapped up and presented to someone on a special day.
After much thought about what I would want to for my volunteer project, I finally settled on the “Feed the Homeless” campaign organized by the Southwest Rotary Club of Las Vegas. This experience allowed me to work with the fantastic organization, Rotary International, and has given me the opportunity to better myself, both personally and professionally, through working with great people and overcoming the challenges presented to me.
The Development of the Processes Behind Blood Pattern Analysis, GSR, and Trace Collection Kayla A. Blackburn Arizona State University The Development of the Processes Behind Blood Pattern Analysis, GSR, and Trace Collection Learning of the history and uses behind blood pattern analysis, gunshot residue, and trace collection is almost as important as learning how to complete the tasks themselves. These three vastly different subject matters are the key to discovering a great deal of valuable information that ensures accuracy for the facts of the case while simultaneously contributing towards the guilty party being held responsible. Without these processes, Crime Scene Specialists would be severely lacking in their ability to establish evidence for detectives, lawyers, judges, and jurors to name a few. Blood Pattern Analysis
Throughout my Senior Capstone project, I have learned many things about myself and the people that I worked with to make my project a success. Working with the elderly residents at the assisted living facility opened my eyes and I viewed things with a different perspective. Going into the project, I did not know what to expect with the residents, but towards the end, the residents knew me so well and had inspired. My favorite part about this project was the opportunity to interact with new people and know what they live their daily lives like. Being able to be around them gave me the chance to talk and listen to stories about their lives. They were also welcoming to any stories that I could relate to and always listened intently to my stories.
Analyzing blood spatter at crime scene is a science that has developed significantly over the last 20 years. David Camm was arrested for the murder of his wife and two children in 2000. Several blood spatter specialist would be called to the stand to testify on the blood spatter evidence that was found in the crime scene with varying results. Most notably, Robert Stites, a blood spatter analyst from Portland Oregon credentials and capability would be called into question many times. Experience, knowledge and credibility of the blood spatter analyst as well as the blood evidence found at the scene led to overturning the conviction of David Camm.
A job shadow is a one-time experience, typically one-half day in length, to watch a health care professional, ask questions and see what it’s like to work in health care. Although you won’t deliver any care or services, you’ll gain a new perspective by observing Avera’s professionals care for
Working with the multi-agency teams such as nurses, doctors and medical staffs and even the shift works and hours were enjoyable as I was
