The book American Sniper is based on a true story written by Chris Kyle is all passed on true events that he was placed in. I believe this book really show what guy in the military really go through and what kind of language they use and how it looks like in their perspective. Chris Kyle tells his story and it's not as if you can relate but as if you were there with him his entire life like if you were his brother growing up right next to him.
American Sniper gives you an idea of what's it like to be there with them in action. You can just see and you can just picture your self there with them that why I think this book gives you a good example of what war is. Chris Kyle was no special author that wrote books for a living but just wrote this
This was a great anaylsis, Laura. I agree with your statement from the book that says "courageous leaders acknowledge the dangers they face and their anxieties. Nonetheless, they move foward despite the risks and costs." We can see many examples of this recently in the United States. During the Sandy Hook shooting, many teachers stepped up, knew what risks they were going to encounter facing the shooter, but still moved forward to save the children. I believe that each captain knew the risks but it didn't matter because they had the possibility to save many lives. Many of our true leaders are the individuals we would classify as leaders (politicians, celebrities, etc.) but they are actually the normal people who live day to day and react
War can portray love and hate connotations ; reflects the variety of emotions felt by the soldiers. In 1990, after his experiences in Vietnam, Tim O’Brien an anti-war retired Veteran published “The Things They Carried”, an ashamed, unjustifiable collection of short stories that evaluate the regret and cowardness he felt of having fought in a pointless war. Afterwards in 2012, after his tour of duty in Iraq, Chris Kyle a pro-war retired Navy SEAL published a prologue to “American Sniper” , an ardent, unabashed memoir of his pride of having had served in a war that was his duty and job to be in. Tim O’ Brien uses symbolism and similes to reflect the soldiers’ “normal” lives lost in war and sacrifices made. However Chris Kyle uses synecdoche
There are two types of people that fight in wars; those who consider their patriotic duty an honor and those who entered the war by force. In 1990, twenty years after returning from the Vietnam War, Tim O’Brien published The Things They Carried, a disturbing and remorseful collection of short stories that gives detailed, yet fictional, accounts of the horrific events that occurred during the war. Later in 2012, after his tour of duty, Chris Kyle released American Sniper, a humble and passionate memoir that describes what Kyle had to face during his tour. While The Things They Carried utilizes symbolism and similes to inform the reader about the horrors of war, American Sniper uses flashbacks and imagery to demonstrate that some people “come alive” during the war.
In “The Sniper” by Liam O’Flaherty, a Republican sniper safeguards himself in a rooftop in a late night of June in Dublin, Ireland. He soon realizes his enemy is across the street. He shoots at a man and woman who were standing nearby an armored car. Hearing this, the enemy across the street shoots at him and injures his arm badly. The sniper fakes his death and kills the enemy. Feeling remorseful, he finds out his enemy was his brother. Liam O’Flaherty shows the horror of war by exploring the dangers that the sniper faces and the psychological risks of his actions.
In the short text “The sniper” written by Liam O’Flaherty, it takes place in Dublin, Ireland during the Irish civil war in 1992 and is about a soldier who is on a rooftop with a rifle trying to kill any enemy he sees, throughout the text this soldier is trying to kill the enemy who is on a rooftop on the opposite side of the street from him. The way that the theme of loss identity was displayed through this is the way how your personal identity does not exist during a war, in the text
One reason the book is good for teens to know in our school is that we grew up in a small town. So we don't know how some things work like war. This book shows what war is like and explains in details what it is compared to. This will show most of the teens what they will do if they go into war or get drafted. It kinda helps show what the real world is based on and that it's not going to be roses and flowers. Or same as the recruiters
When someone first enlists in the war, they are fresh, new, and ready to fight for their country. As the years go by, war breaks the soldiers down and turns them into rugged, motionless men. The generals mold them into killers with no feelings and only designed to kill without content. This is true in The Sniper by Liam O'Flaherty. The theme of war brings out the worst in people turning them into monsters is developed through three types of conflict: man vs man, man vs himself, man vs circumstances.
Personally, the book taught me a lot about how people deal with situations when under pressure, people’s need for power and how easy it really if for a war to break out and I found that in my mind I could easily link what was going
“The American Sniper” by Chris Kyle is an account of the deadliest American sniper ever, called “the devil” by the enemies he hunted and “the legend” by his Navy SEAL brothers. From 1999 to 2009, U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle recorded the most career sniper kills in United States military history. The Pentagon has officially confirmed more than 150 of Kyle's kills (the previous American record was 109). Iraqi insurgents feared Kyle so much they named him al-Shaitan (“the devil”) and placed a bounty on his head. Kyle earned legendary status among his fellow SEALs, Marines, and U.S. Army soldiers, whom he protected with deadly accuracy from rooftops and stealth positions. Kyle presents the gripping and unforgettable accounts of
American Sniper and 13 Hours both have amazing and realistic fights, but throughout ouch each of the movies only one brings you in more. 13 Hours does this. The CIA’s group was left with the final task, defend the compound. They were hit with mortars. The compound was under attack,. they were being shot at and people were dying. One of the many problems was that they were left to do this by themselves until the U.S could get help to them. On the other hand Chris and his comrades were sent in to fight as one and not be alone throughout American Sniper. They were sent into Iraq to continue to kill high value targets. Many points throughout 13 Hours they focus on one large group for the fights. But in American Sniper Chris Kyle focuses on just
I would recommend this book to people who like guns, war, blood, and people who like to see or
In conclusion, the stories “The Sniper” and “Cranes” both prove that “war is hell” making them kill people even if they are relatives or friends. Lastly, “The Sniper” is more effective in a way because he killed his brother without knowing it was him, he just knew he had to kill the

Through literature, Liam O’Flaherty, the author of the short story The Sniper, clearly illustrates how horrific and destructive war really is. The Greek poet Homer portrays many hero’ in the epic’s the Iliad and the Odyssey. The main individuals that come to mind are Achilles and Odysseus, the two most famed and feared warriors in the epics. However, there is another hero; one that is seen by most as subjacent to the two main characters. In my mind this character has a better sense of responsibility and shows more honor to his men than Odysseus did. That mans name is Hektor. Another figure with a similar stature that comes to mind that shows valor for their homeland and family is Chris Kyle, an American member of the armed forces who is known to the military as the most deadly sniper to have ever served. Kyle’s marksmanship became renowned not just within the American military, but among insurgents as well. Like the Iliad, American Sniper focuses on a warrior of extreme lethality and mythical status. By examining the central messages of the epic, similarities can be found through both of their lifestyles and experiences, this leads the reader to have a better understanding of what it meant to be a Homeric hero.
