A crystal is made up of the same materials that a regular glass is made of, such as silica, soda, and lime, but the addition of lead oxide is what gives crystals their shine. A bead has to have 24% lead oxide added to qualify as leaded crystal. Contrary to the popular belief, crystals have been around for a long time. Ancient Egypt, Rome, and other groups have all used crystals for various purposes. The jade pendant was given to June after she volunteered to take the worst crab for dinner. When Suyuan gave this to her she said,“This is young jade. It is a very light color now, but if you wear it every day it will become more green” (208-209). The jade pendant was said to be June’s life’s importance of acceptance and kindness. The more accepting and kind June is, the better of a person she will be. The more June wears the necklace, the better it will be and the more that June displays her best qualities, the better of a person she will be. Her mother gave her this necklace, showing its importance in both of their lives and how it was passed down. Suyuan valued these qualities and was proud of her daughter for having this trait. Suyuan gave June this pendant to show how important it is to have this quality in your life. Throughout June’s stories, she is always struggling to find out who her mother was and what was important to her after her death. This is why Suyuan and June did not understand each other very well during June’s childhood. It was not until Suyuan gave June the pendant that she truly accepted June for who she is. When Suyuan gave June the pendant, she helped show her. “See, I wore this on my skin, so when you put it on your skin, then you know my meaning” (208). The pendant that was given to June and represents how she should express

The serpent was the symbol of the greek god Asclepius, the deity who is most familiarized with healing. This is relevant because hospitals are often associated with his symbol. The species of snake most used in Hellenistic jewelry is known as the Asclepian snake, characterized by a long slender body. Their heads were modeled in a way that made the snake identifiable, as they have a distinctive symmetrical pattern of large scales on their heads. The body would serve as a design for bracelets, wrapping several coils around the arm which would end with another snake head. These bracelets are very complex in design, decorated with realistic snake heads, jewel inlaid eyes, and etched metal to give the body a scaly
The reason I think I chose this gemstone is because of the healing properties and the mental peace which is useful to me in my daily life. Though this is was a tough one to choose out of all of them I felt that it was the best choice I can always go another day and chose another one each and every stone is it's own unique set and it is that way for it's special properties. This stone is very meaningful to me and very useful in my life right now. I sometimes overthinking things and get really worried about everything and this gemstone helps with that. Over the years I have learned alot about the Amethyst stone because it is my birthstone and it is very interesting to go and find out about the month or stone or even herb as well as the god and Goddess associatied with your birth and this is the reason that I chose this stone but mainly because I already knew alot about it. This Goblet Inscribed with the names King Akhenaten and Queen Nefertiti, is made of travertine, (Egyptian alabaster) height 5 ½ in diameter 4 1/8 in. (MET). When I look at this piece I feel it may commemorate a wedding, anniversary, or King Akhenaten’s deep love and affections for his principal Queen Nefertiti. This Piece encompasses the changes King Amenhotep is making in the Egyptian culture, as the previous artworks and vessels have a much different look and style. King Akhenaten has as of yet changed his name as the cup shows the name Amenhotep IV and his principal Queen Nefertiti. This places the goblet at about 5 years into King Akhenaten’s rule over Egypt. The Goblet is not a typical show of craft for that time in Egypt.
First a little about Morganite. It's a semi-precious gemstone in the family of stones called Beryl. This is the same family that the emerald and aquamarine call home, too. It's often referred to as a pink emerald for this reason. On the Mohs Scale, the Morganite falls within 7.5 to 8 like the emerald as well.

Within these categories of jewelry there was a variety of different types. An example of different types is earrings. During the second Intermediate Period of Ancient Egypt earrings were simple hoops but by the New Kingdom, earrings were worn in many different ways such as hoops, “dangles, tube and boss earrings and ear studs” [2]. Evidence also shows that mummies had stretched earlobes, meaning they would insert ear plugs in their lobe that were a maximum “two inches wide” [2]. Another type of jewelry that existed was worn in the hair or wigs of woman. They were called rosettes or tubes of gold that were strung in the women's hair. Towards the New Kingdom tubes made of cornelian began to be worn [5]. The most important feature of egyptian jewelry is that it was colorful. Egyptians wore white linen clothing, especially the wealthy, therefore; to accent their white clothing, their jewels were full of colors such as red (red jasper, cornelian), green (green jasper, chrysoprase), purple (amethyst) and blue (lapis lazuli, turquoise) stones. They loved their accessories to look heavy because it showed more wealth. In order to make it look heavy they added metals around their stones. Gold was the metal of choice
