When the day finally came, she headed for the airport with thoughts of how to explain Gwen’s reaction to Clara lingering in her mind. “Auntie Rose,” the twins yelled as they ran towards her in the terminal. “How was your trip? Did you guys enjoy the plane ride?” Rose asked, squeezing them. “It was fantastic, but it took a long time to get here though. Yeah, I thought we would have been here by now,” the other twin joined in. She found it amusing to watch them finish each other’s sentences. “How’s mommy?” Rose asked, as she stood hugging Clara. “Let’s just say, I am glad to be on the ground.” “We’re going to stop and get some ice cream at my favorite ice cream spot before we head home. How about that?” Rose asked the girls. “Yay,” they cheered. Volcano hot-fudge sundaes with homemade ice cream, brownies and caramel toppings were ordered. The twins talked non-stop about what each wanted to see while in New York. As soon as Rose pulled into the drive and parked, they spotted William. “Uncle William,” they yelled, jumping from the car. “Hey, you’re in for a good time,” he said hugging them. “Guess what, I have a surprise for you two.” When he opened the door, he reached down and picked up the tiny golden Labrador retriever. The squeals could be heard down the street. He looked up at the ladies and smiled, “That should keep them entertained for a while.
