It shows that, by abusing Minerva, he himself is a violent person. One of the factors as to why his regime is riddled with so much violence is the fact that he is violent, and rubbing his personality off into his rule. This evidence also shows the connection between Trujillo’s oppressive style and violence. In this case, the violence is both caused by and is oppression.
As once put by Mexican Nobel laureate Octavio Paz, Mexico is a land of “super-imposed pasts” (McCormick, p.326). It continues to be and is seen as a melding pot of its European and Native American ideas about society, law and government. Its history has had a major influence on the political culture of Mexico, seen through years of revolution, violence and corruption. Mexico is a considered a new democracy, but there is a tension still seen between democracy and authoritarianism. The country we see today has impressive growth yet is still enduring poverty. It’s a geographically diverse country, with a population of approximately 106million people. Latin American political culture is seen as “elitist,
The rhetorical situation of Gloria Anzaldua’s, “How to Tame a Wild Tongue” from her book Borderlands/La Frontera, is the most important piece to her argument. A writer’s rhetorical situation is the use of the elements of the rhetor, audience, text, medium, context and exigence. Through the correct use of these pieces, a writer is able to greatly strengthen their argument and persuasive abilities. In her passage, Gloria Anzaldua is speaking to the unfair and unjust treatment of Spanish speaking children growing up in the United States educational system. These are not just kids who have moved here from a Spanish speaking country, but even those born in the United States that grew up speaking Spanish because of their family’s culture. Through her writing she wants to bring this into light to induce change and help children of the future be able to learn in an environment where they are also able to comfortable speak their own language. She is not looking for them to be able to speak their own language in an American school just because she wants to be difficult. In her eyes, your language is part of your identity of self. And without your language, you are also losing part of yourself. Again, she expresses and increases the persuasiveness of these ideas through the use of her rhetorical situation, which includes the rhetor, audience, text, medium, context and exigence.
During the movie Machuca it was evident that there were severe tensions between the classes. This can be seen through many of the characters in the movie. However, in this report I will discuss which two characters who better represented the class tensions and why. I will then conclude with how this parallels with the tensions that were found in Allende’s government at the time, which consequently resulted in the democratic breakdown of Chile.
This project’s purpose is to record a people who have lived through the promises and outcomes of the Bolivarian Revolution, an idea that captured Venezuela’s spirit and spread across 16 Latin America nations as the Pink Tide. The poor and working class will be a fundamental component of this story as I investigate the role the revolution has played in shaping the lives of this perpetually overlooked group of people. Simultaneously, the nature of these issues will create a portal into the world of Venezuelan heritage, traditions, and political and civic culture. What I write will be the reality of the situation; the interpretation will be left up to the reader.

The cartoon uncovers the manipulation orchestrated by the Democrat's top representatives over the free-soilers. The cartoonist shows the responsibility of the Democrats for the decision on slavery in the new territories. Highlighting the smallest of the Democrats but with enough power to hold the giant Free-Soiler and lead every situation in favor of party ambitions. In the background, through the flames and the figure of a dead man, the cartoonist highlights the conflicts lived
The ruler is a dominant character whose core desire is to rule, but suffers from the fear of being overthrown. If the ruler had a motto it would be “power isn’t everything, it’s the only thing” (Golden). These characteristics describe Trujillo perfectly. Trujillo’s desire led him to become “[. . .] president in a sneaky way. First, he was in the army, and all the people who were above him kept disappearing until he was the one right below the head of the whole armed forces” (Alvarez 17). Readers are able to obtain better knowledge about Trujillo’s motivations by knowing he is a ruler. Trujillo’s need of control is why he does what he does. If a person does or says something Trujillo does not approve of everyone will “[. . .] be killed. It’s the secret of Trujillo” (Alvarez 17). He carries out such horrible acts because he knows he can and it is his way of scaring the citizens in order for him to keep his

First of all, although Latinos have a weak linked fate their mobilization as a group when it comes to immigration can bring the Latino community together to reach a collective end (Bowler, 39). This specific election already being very controversial with a Republican candidate with strong views on immigration may give rise to increased pan-ethnic sentiments to Latino voters who are politically conscious and prepared to mobilize themselves. As Donald Trump has repeatedly made harsh comments on Mexicans for being “killers and rapists” and for blacks and Hispanics being the reason for violence in America, the Latino community has had enough of being a scapegoat per say of America’s problems. With media being such an important medium for information and debate, here too we will see the priming of Latino community to inform themselves of the candidates and vote for one whom can relate to their needs as well as supports their concerns. The Jorge Ramos incident is an example of priming the Latino vote, for he is a well-known journalist whom the Latino public trust and with his recent confrontation with Donald trump at an Iowa interview the Latino community is being exposed to political attitudes. These events create an environment in which group identity and in-group saliency increase the political attitude of Latinos
At the age of 11, the news had never interested me until that day. I had begun my homework when a certain news reporter caught my attention. He was introduced as Jorge Ramos. He appeared on the TV screen, wearing an ironed white dress shirt and a striped blue tie. He was standing in front of a screen with bright graphs and pie charts reporting on bombing in the Middle East that had begun to occur more often in the past months. He spoke Spanish in such an articulate way, using many words that I did not understand. I noticed the way his tan face contorted into a deep sadness: his eyes were glossy and the wrinkles on his forehead became more prominent as he spoke. Immediately, I saw how compassionate he was. At the end of his report he urged viewers to donate to the Red Cross to aid the victims of the bombings and the tears threatened to fall from his eyes. From then on, I looked up to Jorge Ramos. Watching his reports daily made me realize that Latinos could also be smart, compassionate, and thoughtful, contrary to the stereotypes that are seen in the media. “Maybe being Latina isn’t so bad after all”, I
Visual practices in this era are key elements for the president in order to enable his ideas to be conveyed to his audience, here he is able to Label individuals as heroes and villains, this is an ideal way of building a relationship with American society since they are bombarded by media to portray a vision of what is right and what is wrong, and usually there are victims and perpetrators. As the article elaborates, two important aspects to the process of visual interpretation, one of them being that the images are interpreted with already existing context; images come with words and historical baggage. Hence, our hero and villain dilemma, followed by visual images are presented as objective and authentic pieces of evidence, “not a representation of reality, but reality itself.” Pg.618
In the mid 20th century, Colombian politics were dominated by the Liberal and Conservative parties with fierce supporters that carried out the ideological and social differences into violence. Jorge Eliecer Gaitan, a popular leader of the liberal party in Colombia launched social, economic, and political modernising reforms in the 1930’s. Gaitan was in the process of converting Colombia into a left-wing country when he was assassinated right before an upcoming presidential election. Gaitan was the favorite to represent the Liberal Party and was going to implement a more Liberal system in Colombia. The reaction to this assassination produced an uncontrollable clash between

The current research will, thus, offer insights regarding the use of art in politics and perhaps trigger further studies into the
