An Animal 's Home

With a great boom, another tree came down, and it seems as though there is no end in sight to them falling. All my life I have seen trees destroyed and new houses going up. My animal friends keep losing their homes for the benefit of people, and I cannot keep watching this horrible thing go on. When I get old enough I will be able to do something about it. My animal friends need their homes; they have done nothing to deserve this.

Every year for the last ten years I have watched my friends lose their habitats. I am now 15 years old and ready to do something about it. My best friend Tanner’s dad is on the Development Committee on the Council. The committee makes all of the decisions in town on housing and …show more content…

After all, Tanner thinks cutting down trees is a great idea and that Keith is being totally unreasonable. His face was bright red in anger. The next day Tanner told Keith to meet him privately at lunch.
“Why were you going to give that letter to my dad?” I ask
“You opened it,” I reply.
“I am glad I did, besides, my dad would have gotten super upset.” I say.
“I hate you,” Keith replied angrily.
Keith stomped away wondering if that would be the end of their friendship. He felt bad that he said such an awful thing to Tanner. By the end of the day he gathered some of his friends and they joined him to form a group named S.O.F (Save our Friends). They worked to help animals and save their habitats. For the next few weeks Tanner and Keith did not talk to each other. Every Saturday, Keith and S.O.F members made signs, marched and protested at the door of the Council. They even strapped themselves to trees to prevent them from being cut down. Keith felt in his heart that what he was doing was right, and he was willing to stand up for it. Weeks turned into months, and Keith and S.O.F continued to march and protest. He made a commitment to not stop until the Council was willing to listen and change their plans on destroying the animal’s habitat. Who knew a middle schooler could stand up for what he believes in and fight? His confidence was as high as ever. One day Keith got a phone call.
