According to Consiglieri, an A is fearless, but as we can tell by the way Andrew acted and reacted to the result of work, we can tell that he was afraid. Anna’s acting could also be seen as if she would be afraid of not succeeding - afraid of that the gala would not be good enough. I believe that being fearless is nearly impossible, but for an A, the importance may be to fight your fears. As in the interview with Marc Jacobs and Edward Enninful, they both mention that they have fears. The fears of Edward are already discussed above, but I find it important to talk about Marc Jacobs fears before ending this essay. Marc mentions that even though he loves what he does, he is dependent on others opinions. When people are judging his work, he feels
She adds that failure is because of “two reasons: it challenges the blurring of anticipation and promise, and the people who fail are presumed to lack talent or will” (35). She defines success as “dominance over others” and competitiveness (36). I believe that one has to compete for what they want to achieve. I learned that not everything is going to be handed to you; you constantly have to work for it. My brother has always reminded me to strive and work hard because, in the real world, it is not easy.
This thereby demonstrates that through a number of ways someone's insecurities can be developed and amplified through dire conditions. Onto our first common experience, the lack of emotional support from family or friends. In this case we are looking at Amir from Khaled Hosseini's The Kite Runner. Amir is flying his kite in a competition, he wants to win but the main reason is to impress his father so that his father is finally proud of him for something he wants to do. Looking at a quote from The Kite Runner on page 67 it shows, “I kept stealing glances at Baba sitting with Rahim Khan on the roof, wondered what he was thinking. Was he cheering for me? Or did a part of him enjoy watching me fail?” In this quote we see Amir is doubting if his own father is even cheering for him or if by not showing him support his father actually hates him, so we can see that by having a lack of emotional support Amir is showing he is insecure about being accepted in his family. Another quote from that shows Amir's insecurities. “If I hadn't seen the doctor pull him out of my wife with my own very eyes, I'd never believe he's my son.” -Pg
I think it would be a good idea if I add Americans opinions during the text. As a result, I was excited to do an interview with Mr. Jacob Michael Doan. This interview supports the previous interviewers with the international students. Jacob is American student at Ball State University, and his major is elementary and special education. Also, he works in Apple Tree Child Care as a part-time. He is 22 years old, lives in Muncie city. But, the original home is Indianapolis. The interview was in Apple Tree at 5:00 P.M., and there were two teachers and one assistant in room number eight. The children were around the room like bees. Two of them read books, three children play cards, one child feeds the fish in an aquarium and the last child was playing
Every year the company attends a trade show in High Point, North Carolina. Hundreds of companies in the industry attend, and Bob’s Discount Furniture uses this showing to view new products, spot trends in the industry, and build relationships. In the interview, Ron Bomberger, VP of store operations, claimed that BDF is “somewhat of a follower in the design standpoint” by spotting styles that will work with their customer base in order to make furniture fun. BDF follows a “Jack Wells method” where the bottoms 30% of goods are dropped each year because they are not only taking up space on the floor, but they are also reducing their total revenue each year. They keep track of how many of each item is sold and use the
Both main characters have a different level of risks. They both have a different level of risk because in Making Sarah Cry when the poem says “Sarah was unlike the rest.” This shows facing a risk because since Sarah is unlike the rest she has a risk of getting her feelings hurt since she is different from everyone else. In the article, Susan B Anthony Dares To Vote! Susan B Anthony has a chance of getting shot or killed because she is traveling all over the country to allow women to have the right to vote. This is risky because if Susan B Anthony gets shot or killed, then women won’t have the right to
Every person has a fear. They may want to share it, or they may not. Whatever the case, talking about it or even speaking up is sometimes very difficult. In the first excerpt, the girl is terrified of being different and has low self esteem (paragraph 2). In the second excerpt, Elie Wiesel is traumatized by World War II.
Fear manipulates the life of a young boy named Amir to the point he has to seeks redemption for his bad deeds, forcing him to break his inner shell and to finally grow as a person in the realistic novel, The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. Amir was not born fearless. Trials and tribulations were inevitable for him to overcome this flaw in life. Opportunities were cut short and friends were lost because of this trait that he procrastinates to overcome. A prime example of fear manipulating Amir’s life is when his father neglected him as a child. He was not a bold kid like his best friend Hassan. That difference was disliked by Baba since he is a fearless man. Townspeople admired Baba’s bravery, but the only thing that Amir was seen as by Baba
Joseph and the Technicoloured Dream coat was a fascinating musical. They had strong voices and they told the story by acting really well. It was a humorous and mind-blowing performance. It was really fascinating how they acted and how good they were even when they made mistakes they just continued like it was a part of it. The musical was about a boy named Joseph who was loved more by his father than any of his other brothers. One day, his brothers get too jealous and decide to sell him. They put animals blood on his coat and showed it to his father and he thought he was dead. Meanwhile, Joseph got sold to the Pharaoh as a servant and after a while he was put in jail. Two men came and asked Joseph what their dreams meant and soon the two men
It’s easy to think that Adam Mayblum isn’t afraid with the way he writes this email-turned-essay. Throughout the piece, Mayblum is recounting his events; it seems like he is afraid of what happened.
This book teaches us the true meaning to take all risks and hope that you will gain something from it. “You always have to make decisions in your life, Anh. And don’t kid yourself; when you don’t decide, that’s a decision” This quote teaches us that you hold, the key to your future and that deciding whether or not to go and grab that opportunity or to just be complacency it’s completely your choose. The example when Anh goes onto the stage and convince his school why he should become school captain is a great example of going out of your comfort zone or personal bubble. Even though Anh doesn’t become school captain he gains something that means a lot more, self-confidence and courage these are things that change who you are! Anh now realises that “if you lose and fail, but you still celebrate coming second because you’ve given it a red hot go. There is no need to fear failure.” this is a message to celebrate taking a risk to gain a reward and that actions speak louder then
How sad is it that sometimes people allow their worries to ruin their potential. One might have a dream to become a neurosurgeon but never applies to medical school because of their fear of failing. Or a different example of the same idea is an individual that has a fear of falling in love because their last relationship went up in smoke. Either way these people were negatively impacted by the effects of fear. Shakespeare’s
The autobiography of a woman who lived seven years in a nine-by-seven foot enclosure in order to thwart slave catchers and keep watch over her children, Incidents exposes and explores one of the most morally bankrupt institutions in human history: chattel slavery in the Antebellum South. Given the many harrowing experiences of its narrator, as well as the seemingly endless stream of equally disturbing stories of fellow slaves she relays, it’s no shock that many readers would just as soon relate the book to the dusty confines of some dilapidated library.
In the short story Matter of Balance, W.D Valgardson presents the idea that fear allows people to attempt difficult tasks in their lives. Even when there is a chance of failing. Independence is necessary to grow up, though it can be intimidating sometimes. People who commit crimes may be punished in unexpected ways. Harold has the right to defend himself, although it does draw attention between the moral conflict between self-protection and revenge. But you must choose one way and live with the consequences. Also when you center your life around unfortunate events, you are much more vulnerable to isolation, which may conflict with new opportunities. For example, when you foresee possibilities that could happen, it may elicit fear of what
Fearless, something that doesn’t come by often. I usually see people who fear something, but these people fear nothing. One time I was fearless when I was doing a group project. We all had to present in the front of the class and i was worried, but I did it along with the rest of my group. I presented and it wasn’t so bad. I was no longer scared to go up there which made me fearless. The story “Thief Eyes” shows the character is fearless doing brave actions.
One’s true potential is on the other side of fear. As this anonymous quote elucidates, fear acts as a hindrance that essentially traps us in our comfort zone, limits our experiences, and holds us back from achieving our potential. In Coelho’s The Alchemist, the protagonist, Santiago, demonstrates his fears as obstacles that diverts himself from attaining his Personal Legend.
