Many people believed that the Jews would never survive the concentration camps. However, the Jews managed to stay alive physically and spiritually by working with all the strength they could muster, making the best with the rations they were given, believing in family’s promises, and having faith that they would be free once again. Therefore, people should always stay strong even when it seems like all hope is lost.

To begin with, the holocaust took place in Germany, it lasted about two years and in these two years Adolf Hitler had killed over six million Jews, Gypsies, homosexuals, and people that supported and/or defended these groups of people.

Imagine being plucked from your home and being brought to a camp to die or to work. Six million Jews died during the holocaust, but during this time there was hope. Even through difficult situations, the human spirit will always triumph. Laughter, love, and beauty of nature were what got these people through their tough times. For the people who were forced into hiding or being stuck at a camp, laughter could make them forgot everything around them.

The Holocaust was a period approximately in the same period of the Nazi Party’s power in Germany, and around the length of World War II. It began with just a simple persecution of a minority, but eventually in the later stages of the war it became something much more horrific and detestable. When children were put into hiding they were most of the time crammed into small spaces such as attics or cellars with large groups of people which caused very tight living quarters for long periods of time. Almost all of the children that were in the Holocaust that were not hidden were killed and those who survived and continued in school had to be able to pass as “non-jews” including not having an accent or strong “jewish” features that could possibly give away them or their family that was in hiding.

It is amazing to hear from the people who have actually survived the Holocaust. It shows us how much we still have to learn about the world and the civilizations and how hard it is to understand the reason why we do such things to our fellow human beings. (Telles 51) In addition, thousands of political and religious dissidents such as communists, socialists, trade unionists, and Jehovah's Witnesses were persecuted for their beliefs and behavior and many of these individuals died as a result of maltreatment.

People of Europe, the Germans, and any other people should have spoken out during this time but Jews did nothing wrong. What is still left to be answered is did his multiple addictions improve the quality of his art or was he suffering from something else that drove him insane and contributed to the great prowess of his artwork?
