I think Ayn Rand can be a good and bad thing for a society. She believes in individualism wholeheartedly, and she doesn’t even really want to hear other people’s opinion. In the fourth video, a lady tried to express her opinion , and Ayn Rand didn’t want to hear what she had to say. She believed this was because of what went on in Russia when she was growing up. Caring about only yourself is a good thing to a certain extent. People should get to choose their occupation, who they marry, if they want to have kids, etc, but if all the people in the military only looked out for themselves, we wouldn’t have a military to defend us. I believe societies do need a government to keep everything in order, but they shouldn’t have complete control. There
Character development is vitally important in Anthem. As we watch Equality 7-2521 change from a state of guilt and unhappiness to a state of pride and self-worthiness, the process creates the bulk of the story elements. One of the most important instances that show how much Equality has changed occurs in Chapter 8. At the end of this chapter, Equality bursts into laughter after thinking about what has happened. Equality laughs when he remembers that he is the damned because he feels liberated, not ruined.
In this paper, I will be talking about the book called Anthem by Ayn Rand. I will be talking about characters such as protagonists and antagonists and how some characters impacted the story. I will talk about the setting, conflicts, and the plot of the story. I will also talk about literary devices such as point of view, symbolism, mood, tone, and theme.
All success starts with inner motivation. The most talented people that are living have an inner motivation that started their success story. The book “Anthem,” by Ayn Rand portrays the character Equality's main motivation which is individuality. Through his fearless discoveries he finally realizes the truth and that truth will set him free.
There has always been a slight anxiety, a slight fear, of being alone or standing alone. Students rarely want to admit to having an answer different from the rest of their classmates; some people do not want to go somewhere and do something by themselves. Notably, with more shy or anxious people, they will often stick around someone they know, so they will not be alone in the crowd. Although that company might help them make it through those nerve-wracking moments, when is the right time for them to walk alone? Should a person ever walk alone? In Ayn Rand’s Anthem, Equality’s internal conflict of conformity versus individuality plays a role that Equality needs to overcome in order to complete their quest for freedom which helps create
Imagine a world where everyone is equal; living a life that feels almost programmed. Humans may not realize the impact freedom, technology, and independence has on our daily lives; however, Anthem by Ayn Rand demonstrates the importance of these rights. The story portrays the life of a young man, Equality 7-2521, living in a society that is built on severe rules and laws. These laws are designed to eliminate individuality, resulting in an extremely controlled environment. Due to the laws, Equality 7-2521 rebels against the society. For example, Equality 7-2521 was given the job as a Street Sweeper but realized life was unchallenging for him, and was punished for going beyond his limitations. Equality 7-2521 understands that solitude is
Ayn Rand's Anthem shows us her view of our world united under what seems to be communist rule. For example their view of right and wrong; which Anthem portrays is a system of very strict rules which mainly make sure that everyone is involved in a collective role within the society in this system no one is considered an individual or that they can even think as an individual.

“My happiness is not the means to any end. It is the end. It is its own goal. It is its own purpose” (Rand, 95). Anthem is written by American author Ayn Rand about Equality 7-2521 on his quest for happiness. The novel is set in an unspecified time and place in the future. Years after human civilization has gone through a deconstruction in which all knowledge was lost and a new society established with no concept of the individual. “The novel describes the efforts of the main character, Equality 7-2521, to reestablish a sense of personal identity and restore the knowledge of the past by objective scientific inquiry. In doing so, he must face many dangers and privations” (Anthem). Anthem is a dairy of the Equality
“To be free, a man must be free from his brothers.”when people hear this they may think
Vision a lifestyle where one perceives it as a sin to comprehend data more efficiently than of one’s peers; a felony to long for things that others do not wish upon. Where floods of white tunics and austere minds obliterate the Earth. A colony built upon leaders who asphyxiate anyone from infatuation of any object or significant being; moreover, a world suffocating in collectivism. Through exasperated transcription, Anthem brings about such a community; nevertheless, a world of black and white. Ayn Rand does not overemphasize the effects of totalitarianism, but amplifies it so that it is more effortless for one to enlighten he or she’s notion on the particular proposal. First, by analyzation of “Equality 7-2521”, and
Ayn Rand was able to accurately explain the capitalistic system in which we live in through the quote, “America’s abundance was not created by public sacrifices to ‘the common good,’ but by the productive genius of free men who pursued their own personal interests and the making of their own private fortunes.” Evidently, Rand believed that all the work people did within America was purely in their own self-interest, notwithstanding the work for “the common goal,” or benefit of everyone else. Rand, however, emphasises the meaning of “the common goal” to reveal the idea that if people can say they’re doing it for more than just themselves, it removes the moral weight from their shoulders and acts as a shield of justification, allowing people to do anything. The only limit on what people were able to accomplish depended only upon themselves, or whoever else was a part of this group of free (working) men, meaning that any resources that can be utilized, in most circumstances, will be utilized. The only time these resources wouldn’t be taken advantage of are when they are in the possession of those who do not truly strive for true abundance but, instead, take enough for themselves to survive, thus making the abundance only available to a select few genius individuals. Ayn Rand’s quote states that people are corrupt and greedy, and after examining the past examples of the world, this statement
The only way to stop the national Socialist Left’s cultural revolution insanity is to go after it’s base ideology.
While learning more about Ayn Rand and her philosophy I came across an article about movies that exemplifies Ayn Rand’s philosophy. The movie in this article focuses on the beloved Pixar movie The Incredibles, where a family of superheroes is forced to hide their abilities due to government regulations. The New York Times article uses the line “they keep finding new ways to celebrate mediocrity” said by Bob Parr, the protagonist of the film as evidence of Rand’s philosophy. Upon first reading the article I thought it was absolutely ridiculous to state that the beloved children's film The Incredibles holds even a drop of Rand’s philosophy and ideals. However, upon further investigation, I discovered there were similarities between Rand’s ideas
In society it is important to have structure, set laws and rules. Although we may not always abide by them and they may not seem ethical at the moment we as an American society have a large amount of freedom that is taken for granted the majority of the time. Growing up in America we are given the benefits of living in a “free” country; America is the land that others all across the world strive to work hard to eventually live the life that we take for granted. The outside society see American people as living a life they consider to be a dream. A life that we consider to be a struggle, an annoyance, something that we are too lazy and ignorant to realize how lucky we are to be living in such an amazing country as we do. The freedom that we
“When one acts on pity against justice, it is the good whom one punishes for the sake of the evil; when one saves the guilty from suffering, it is the innocent whom one forces to suffer.”
