What I knew about the book I knew nothing about the book except its amazing title and distinct description. I have read many bullying stories, but this one seemed to stand out more compared to most stories. I wanted to read this story because it had something that interested me greatly, on the back Lucy stated that “to feel that more than anything else we want to be loved for who we are, while wishing desperately and secretly to be perfect” I found this quote quite unique in contrast to other books in this genre which intrigued me greatly.
Purpose for reading People will read this book and realize that there is nothing wrong with being yourself, and should learn from Lucy Grealy’s mistakes.

I believe courage is the most evident and impactful for me, throughout all her life she fought cancer, facial reconstruction surgeries, and bullying.
“This singularity of meaning – I was my face, I was ugliness- though sometimes unbearable, also offered a possible point of escape. It became the launching pad from which to lift off, the one immediately recognizable place to point when asked what was wrong with my life. Everything led to it, everything receded from it – my face as personal vanishing point” (Grealy 7).
She mustered all her courage and accepted that she was her face and there was nothing she could do about it.
“I felt both safe and amazed by my sudden proximity to dozens of half-naked men suggestively grinding their hips on the dance floor.” (Grealy 203) This quote
In John Cloud’s essay “The Myths of Bullying” he talks about the reaction that schools and states have to bullying. Cloud expresses his concerns for bullying and also explains the steps that people are taking to help prevent it. He explains that most of the systems used now are not effective and are making school’s waste money. He then provides his own opinion on how bullying should be approached in school systems. Cloud’s essay not only tries to persuade the reader to his cause but he uses literary elements such as bathos and logos to appeal to and draw in the reader.
Bullies run rampant through the halls of schools across America, but fellow students are not always the problem. Teachers bully their students by using verbal abuse, causing unnecessary stress, or putting the student in harm's way. Students need the help and support of their mentors to achieve their academic goals. When the teacher becomes the bully, students cannot get the most out of their classes. Personal cases from students of Tinora High School and Karen Eubank show different ways that a teacher can cause more harm than good.
The concept of bullying in the school system has been linked to many homicides and

The genre is a poem by Lexi Watson, a young girl, titled “I Am...”. In her poem she talks about bullying happening to children. She describes how she feels when she sees kids getting bullied, and she repeats I am an Inquirer and Confident saying she isn’t afraid to stand up against a bully. The issue this poem relates to is bullying. Bullying occurs often in the book Speak and Melinda is the victim. She is constantly bullied by a lot of people especially at school where she is bullied: ignored, pushed, shoved. Some of the bullies are even her old friends.
All families have problems but divorcing is one that most of the families have. In fact Freaks and geeks; Schweiber and Weir is a good example of families of America. The Weirs don’t have problems like Schweiber do. Neil Schweiber is the only child and Sam Weir is not, he has an older sister. But what I am trying to get at is that Sam has someone to talk to but Neil, on the other hand, does not. He is lucky he has friends that told him about his dad.
It is often heard, “Kids will be kids,” but when is it time to step in and say that is enough? When the child is terrified to go to school because he or she knows that the bigger children are waiting at school? When the child no longer wants to leave the house because he or she know the bullies are out there? According to dosomething.org, a website focused on preventing bullying and help the victims of bullying, one in four teachers do not see bullying as a problem and only four percent do something about it (“11 Facts About Bullying”). Bullying is a serious issue that schools are not addressing properly as demonstrated by the movie Bully and my sister’s experience.
I have just reached my one millionth hit on my YouTube video! I created this video to share the depths of bullying and abuse to those worldwide. I am extraordinarily passionate about anti-bullying, and I hope to share my ideas with numerous people. Abuse is happening worldwide, and it is an action that might not ever be resolved. I wanted to construct this video because there is an abundance of harassment happening in my own town. People are getting bullied at school due to their style or certain interests they posses. Although bullying takes place everywhere, I wanted to focus my video on one specific event. This event took place in Chicago.
Bullying is a cruel thing that people (mostly children/teens) do to harass other people that they do not like. The picture is about a group of children who are picking on a boy younger or the same age as them. The lyrics/video is called “Invisible” it’s explaining that you are perfect just the way you are. Don’t bully people and you won’t become a bully yourself. In the song “Invisible” by Hunter Hayes it shows that people are different and if everyone was the same the world would be just completely messed up.

In the article by Puhl and Luedicke the focus is bullying on obese adolescents. The purpose of the study was to examine how those targeted for having larger BMI’s coped with the teasing and to gage their emotional reactions. To answer the questions a survey was conducted at two high schools from central Connecticut. Before conducting the survey, the authors already know some of the repercussion of weight based victimization. That included emotional and physical damage and a decline in academics. “These consequences include risk of depression, anxiety, poor body image, social isolation, suicidality, maladaptive eating behaviors (e.g., binge eating, eating disorder symptoms and avoidance of physical activity” (Puhl & Luedicke, 2011, p. 2). The study also noted that academics suffered due to weight based bullying. Often the student being bullied would not come to school to avoid the conflicts. With this new study there were several specific goals and research questions that were to be examined at the high schools. “To identify specific coping strategies endorsed by adolescents in reaction to experiences of weight-based victimization, examine affective responses in reaction to weight-based victimization among adolescents. Based on recent research documenting vulnerability to negative affect (e.g., depression, low self-esteem) among obese youth who have been teased about their weight Second, the study aimed to examine links between weight-based victimization and school
Although the phenomenon of nurses “eating their young” or bullying has existed for decades, it has recently become a priority of research. There are many peer reviewed articles on the issue that describes what this phenomenon consists of. The first article I found is titled, “Bullying in Undergraduate Clinical Nursing Education”. This article focused on international nursing students in all four years of their program and the bullying they endured throughout. It was found through these individual studies that each student experienced a frequency of bullying mostly from their clinical instructors and staff nurses. Additionally, third and fourth year students endured a higher level of bullying than first and second year students.
Every day, millions of people wake up afraid of bullies. Bullying can happen anywhere, anytime. Bullying is a big issue these days, and bullies’ actions are very unpredictable. No one knows who a bullies’ next target might be and what their reasoning is. Today, bullying can be considered more extreme than it was even ten years ago, with the advent of the internet and resulting cyber-bullying. Many celebrities and organizations are speaking out for the cause, warning others about the dangers of bullying and the sometimes-fatal consequences.
