Darren Aronofsky's movie Requiem for A Dream has been released in 2000. A film based on a novel of the same name written by Hubert Selby Jr. ‘s. The scenes in the movie were mostly filmed in the Coney Island and Red Hood in Brooklyn. The main character Ellen Burstyn (Sara Goldfarb) was nominated for the 73rd Oscar Awards as the best actress in 2001. Aronofsky portrays the transition of mental states of these addicts, "when they addicted, a window opens briefly to the world where everything is right, then it shuts down and life reduces itself to a search for the money and drugs to reopen the window." And in that extent, "there is nothing comparable to the pleasure of drugs" (Ebert 2003). This film is set in Brooklyn in the 1990s, it tells the story of a drug addict, the drug is just one of a variety of addiction. Sara Goldfarb is devastated by the death of her husband. She obsesses over appearing on television, losing weight by eating pills which only accelerate her mania and addiction. Her son, Harry, is living in the streets with his friend Tyrone and girlfriend Marion, where they sell drugs for making money and fulfill dreams (buy a new television and open a clothing shop). However, a shortage of heroin supply descends them into an abyss of dependency and despair. At the end of the movie, they doomed by the destructive power of drugs.
