The Mission Impossible extreme is an event run by the Canadian Coptic Centre. The event consists of multiple competitive games between different participating groups. My job was to create challenging games and lead a team of people to construct it in an effective time frame. For starter, I learnt the difference between a leader and a boss, a boss would give orders to the workers. On the other hand, a leader is someone who is humbled enough to acknowledge his need for other team members' skills and opinions
It’s about knowing your team and yourself, and doing your best job setting both up for success. I demonstrate leadership in One Act Play, FFA CDEs, Spanish Club, and so forth. In One Act Play, as a sound technician, I contribute suggestions that could improve the aspects of the play from my point of view and share my views to the other technician members. As a technician team, we depend on each other and to be efficient in all tasks undertaken during the play. In reward, we placed as an alternate one act play and one of the technician members placed as an outstanding crew member. In FFA CDEs, we work together as a team as well. I demonstrate leadership by applying my knowledge and solving problems with my teammates. We diligently pursue for excellence in our competitions and work together to resolve questions. In reward, I was rewarded with my Green-Hand FFA Degree in grade 9. In Spanish Club, I demonstrate leadership by inspiring others and myself to do chariable related work in the community. For example, over the Christmas break we visited the White Hall Nursing Home and visited the elderly. We had great conversation and had a great time there. Good leadership descends from character which is based on truth and
First published in 1987, The Leadership Challenge is a guide for becoming leader. The book received many awards and its above two million copies are internationally sold. The book teaches principles of leadership that apply whether the leader is running a sports team or a fortune 500 organization. The book includes stories and examples of many leaders from micro to macro level (Founders and Authors, 2013). The basic leadership principles can be adopted by anyone to challenge status quo and increase leader productivity multifold. The book tells about the flow and hierarchy of values too (Machedo, 2013). One can use the guide without an instructor to develop leadership traits.
“One has to consult the sayings of the Fathers of the Church, as well as other ancient writers. This helps us understand the historical changes which have occurred over the years. Reading the Fathers can give meaning to many of the rubrics, many of which are not carried out properly because of lack of understanding of their meaning”.
Abstract: There are numerous definitions of leadership, all of which contain elements related to people (the leader and the follower(s)), communicating in person or by the written word, actions (organizing, directing, coaching, and/or motivating), and for a purpose (meeting a goal(s) or accomplishing a task(s)) (ADP 6-22) (Fisher 2015) (Bolden 2013) (Hogan 2005). Additionally, everything done occurs within a given context. Effective leaders are poised, proficient, pertinent, and practical in the application of the art of leadership. This means leaders are ready to engage the group with effective methods and
Being surrounded by such a great community, I have learned the qualities of exceptional leadership and have implemented them into my own life. I am the Walden Grove Band secretary, and am a strong member of my church’s youth group. I use the trait of integrity to help guide my decisions and to ensure they are the best for everyone in the group. Not only am I a leader in clubs and organizations, I exhibit leadership qualities while in the classroom, volunteering, and during my extra curricular activities. As Tennis Manager, I take the initative to prepare the equipment for practices and matches, and do many other nessecary tasks to make sure the practices and matches runs smoothly and efficiently. I am responsible for making sure all tennis
For the 4WC we were put into teams and given tasks to complete each week. My team consisted of 6 members, including myself. The teams were decided based upon a test that each member took. Using the results of the test each member was assigned a role from Belbin’s Theory of Team Roles. This was done to ensure that all the teams where balanced as the theory of building a team with Belbin’s Team Roles is that one person weakness is another person’s strength. Belbin (2010). On the second week of the challenge I took up the role of leader of the group, a position that I was very unsure about. Within the following report I will reflect on my development as leader, what I learnt and the effects that my leadership had on the team and tasks.
When discussing children signing a pledge and making a commitment to be involved in Christian Endeavor, the book emphasizes the need to “Go Slowly.” It urged leaders to take time to meet with children individually to make sure they fully understand and are sincere in their faith and commitment. It says to be certain children are “not attracted to the novelty of the affair” (p. 10). This idea is not often at the forefront of ministry in our culture, which regularly uses novelty to entice children and uses the number of people making commitments to prove the validity of a ministry. Especially in regards to children, who are very impressionable, leaders should not seek to pressure children in any way. I think it’s also important to note the book
Knowing the challenges that your team face is also key in order for you to be successful in leading them and achieving your results.
While no leadership role was assigned to me in this project, I attempted to lead intellectually by providing ideas and solutions to stimulate the team’s creativity and problem solving.
In every group there is always that one person who keeps the team on track and motivated. That one person is called the team leader and only select few people are made to be a team leader. The team leader’s main goal is motivating the team members and encourage the team and the leader cannot be selvage. Leaders have to work in their favor and all so the teams favor and wellness. Rules and regulations have to take place to thrive as a team. The team has to agree to take risk, be confident, do research, and do more than complete the goal. Teams have to be passionate in their craft instead of just achieve what is required of
For my leadership exercise, our group volunteered in events for Art week. We all chose different events to volunteer such as Asylum, Walking tours, and arting zone while doing the volunteering we were assigned to do an operation manual of our event and what was required during the event. Each member was assigned to do certain sections of the operation manual. The events were all successful and as a team, we worked very well in achieving our goals. The team and I sectioned our work and worked through on what we have to do as individuals. The skills we displayed made our events more successful. The interaction in our group showed excellent teamwork of engaging, communicating effectively and being on time for group meetings. These skills in our group portrayed our excellent leadership skills to a successful event. However, the challenges we faced as a team we managed to overcome any obstacles using our leadership skills to establish a successful event. As a group our main focus is to concentrate interacting with each other, engaging and identify with each other. The skills my group will expect from me will be organizing, problem-solving, communicating effectively and being creative. These skills will show my group that I am a strong team player to care about the work and the teamwork and to deliver a full commitment to my team and work. There were few issues in disagreeing on how to deliver our task, however, as a leader understanding my team feedbacks and
Plan and organize a group activity where leaders learn to support one another’s leadership; helping them refocus and to keep going. The event will discuss ways to empower and motivate leaders to their followers or each other; this activity can be done by videos, books, group talks, or a guest speaker. The time lines for this event can be set on a monthly basis.
On the other hand, after learning about the model and discuss about the flaws of the team, the theory of Action-Centers leadership framework was put into action and it resulted in a satisfied way in the coincident on Saturday morning. The team was assign to do 3 different tasks which is consisting of the tower building, doing puzzle in the local village and betting the height of the tower of competitors in very limited time. In this assignment, there was no explicit that who is a leader, but we manage to share role of leaders in each given task. According to theory of John Adair, the task has to be divided, make plan, allocate work and the team can manage to follow guideline given by model. The brief was reading carefully and there is an attempt to control quality of work and check performance against plan by making sure that we have time management and follow the plan. Each task was assigned to each of the member who seen to have ability in doing so. For example, member A and B think they are good at doing puzzle, they volunteered to do. This can also be relate to individual that the team can identify individual abilities and natural styles and respect others as individual. ‘A good match between the attributes of members and their responsibilities in the team will strongly affect team’s performance. One mark of winning teams was the way in which
The Leadership Challenge Model is easy to understand and is specific enough that almost anyone with the desire to improve or attain leadership skills can follow the guidelines presented in the practices and commitments and be successful. The model emphasizes that leadership is a learned skill that anyone can master. Although the practices are presented in an order, different tasks or projects may not follow the order but will include all of the practices at some point. When considering the model, it is easy to see how each practice combines with the commitments ascribed to result in successful leadership. All of the practices are interrelated and emphasize the leader as a part of a team or group of people with the same values and aspirations that work together to reach a goal. The word ‘we’ should be used in place of ‘I’, because the leader is expected to inspire the group to see the project or goal as their own.
The report looks at how leadership is viewed in this particular instance of Yacht races. In this case it looks at how Brendan Hall, an individual who was made captain of a sailboat is able to command and lead a group of amateur crew brought together to perform a certain task. Leadership is a key skill needed in order for any teamwork to be successful.
