The US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is an agency under the US Secretary of Health and Human Services that protects and provides health and human services to American citizens. The agency administers more than 100 programs some of which include: social services, health insurance, prevention and wellness, research, among others (HHS, 2017). This assignment analyzes of the agency’s policies, procedures, and plans regarding unions, privatization, pensions, and productivity. The Agency and Unions Employees at the US Department of the DHHS are allowed to join workers union. In addition, it is beneficial to the employees as through the union, things like wages and insurance could be agreed through collective bargaining. The Agency and Privatization The main role of the DHHS is to protect the health of the citizens as well as offer human services while promoting social services and public health. The agency is under the leadership of the US Secretary of Health and Human Sciences who is directly appointed the president. Privatization of the agency implies that the services and programs offered by the agency would be contracted with private vendors. In case of a privatization, programs and services such as social services, health insurance, public health and safety, and emergency preparedness and response would no longer be provided by the government and citizens would seek these services from individual providers. However, such services should only be provided by the government mainly because of the resources involved and the coverage. There is no opportunity for privatization as this would mean that the government would no longer be responsible for the protection of health and human services. The key reasons why the agency should not privatize revolve around the quality of health and human services as well as maintaining government jobs.
