Analysis of Media Devices in The Italian Job
Both films show an insight into technology; the modern version is more technologically advanced. All this is due to the availability of technology in the two eras. Donald Sutherland known as John Bridger in the later version of the film uses a mobile phone and whilst carrying out the mission the use of infer-red devices, laptops and other technology is also significantly used. In contrast to this the 1969 version Michael Cain gets the main idea from the slideshow left by Beckerman. Also whilst Seth Green hacks into the traffic network system in the 2003 version the tapes are manually switched in the previous edition. The technology element is effective

In spite of the brilliant use of music and sound effects, spectator's debate there was a lot of stereotyping in the two films. In the Italian Job 2003, Mark Wahlberg starring as Charlie the leading character, who plans a mission without the use of a gun is typical stereotyping, John Bridger pulls out of retirement "for one last job" and in addition to this Stella a beautiful blond woman who ran a legal business is suddenly talked into helping avenge her father's death by coming in on the revenge heist. This same norm is used in the 1969 Italian Job but in different ways, all the blonde girls as bimbos falling at the feet of Cain. The effectiveness is genuinely moral but it seems unrealistic especially in the modern era because the similar releases contain a lot of stereotyping i.e. Oceans Eleven carry out a robbery with no gun in three biggest casinos in Los Angels.
In contrast to stereotyping the editing was a major media device of the film. The editing links up quite well with pace, an excellent example is when in the contemporary Italian Job there's a speedboat chase, and the scenes keeps alternating between the cracking of the safe in a calm, quiet environment underwater and on the other hand a mirror reflection were the Italian Mafiosi are shouting and
The gangster genre within films in America has accomplished numerous positive criticisms and constant willing audiences due to containing outstanding spectacles and mind-blowing action. The Godfather, being second on the IMDb Top 250 Movies, has set a new popular concept to life within the Mafia from their point of view. Doing so, creating a positive association. Yet within Italy, the same topic contains a complete different view. Movies such as I Cento Passi demonstrate unenthusiastic view by those whom are outside yet negatively affected by those members. Unlike American films, the gangsters are not as often viewed at the protagonist and are the main causes for the problematic events. But how different is Italian Mafia and American
“ They rely on a viewer's preconceived idea of how a particular person or ethnic group should act and merely fulfill these expectations. External signs and cues are used to indicate and suggest the veneer of culture. Dress, eating habits, and language accents are exaggerated…” Even though the directors of the movie did not directly refer to Italian Americans, the way they portrayed the characters based on their language, clothes, food and etc. indirectly told the audience that the characters were of Italian background. By seeing this occur in every movie and show, the public got accustomed to seeing Italian Americans as the mafia and failed to recognize that the mafia was only a small percentage of Italian Americans and the rest were just like ordinary people trying to make a better life.
* Promotes himself – manipulating the audience through cutaways, specific and timed edits. The medium of film allows for one to manipulate and force audience attention to a specific area, scene.
The two films Citizen Kane by Orson Welles (1941) and Sullivan’s Travels by Preston Sturgis (1941) were both created in the same year, and are both considered “Classical Narrative Hollywood”. However, though both of these films follow the basic mold of classic Hollywood, they break the mold as well. Both movies incorporate new and innovative technology, shots and concepts that are new to this time, and essentially introduce them, changing the fil m industry forever.
Comparing the Opening Sequence of The Italian Job (1969) and the Opening Sequence of The Italian Job (2003)
The Italian job and its remake have almost nothing to do with each other but they have something alike and say this is because both of the movies are about heisting gold. The problem is that the first one is more Italian oriented than the newer version. First I will talk about the first movie and then the remake. All right the first now that is somewhat more planning than actually doing.
The world of film has changed dramatically over the years and will likely continue to change along with technological and professional developments. Like many modern innovations, film has changed substantially over a rather short period of time, from black and white movies to modernized color films. Still, it is impressive to think how far film has come, and looking back into the near past affords an appreciation of the technology that no longer exists. Thus my viewing experiences towards film have tremendously changed in recent years as I have become more and more immersed in its world.
In addition, the audience was also introduced to settings that avoided the usual associations of Rome to truly immerse the audience to the real life Italian culture. Especially in the last sequence of the film, everything seems to be continuously raw from the setting to the main actors and to the supporting actors in connection from the beginning of the film. In the last remaining shots, as the camera was following the two main characters, Antonio and Bruno, it was as if the they were the only ones that mattered; no more thoughts of the bike but just both of them as two human beings. Until, they blended with the other people, making them part of the reality
A film would be nothing without proper editing. Editing will make a film as coherent (or incoherent) as a filmmaker pleases. It also can emphasize certain aspects of the mise-en-scène, cinematography, sound, and plotline to accentuate the film’s topics and themes. In Clip 3, Charlie Chaplin utilizes editing to his advantage and allows it to enforce the motif in his film Modern Times of scorning authority. Modern Times makes strong use of continuity editing: “a system that uses cuts and other transitions…to tell stories effectively” (Corrigan, 144).
Special effects play a huge roll in modern day films; they are mainly used to grab the attention of the audience. In the making of THE GODFATHER, very few special effects were used. The director, Francis Ford Coppola was able to capture the audience’s attention with a terrific cast, and a captivating story line. The movie explores many aspects of real life such as family responsibility, a father's legacy, the need to earn respect and the corrupting influence of power. These are some of the ingredients combined in Francis Ford Coppola's masterpiece. The movie ran close to three hours and every scene was better then the last; not boring the viewer throughout the entire performance.
Commedia dell’ Arte theatre emerged as a new form of stage entertainment in Italy in the late 16th Century, and reached the height of its artistic and commercial success in 1650; then flourished in Europe for two hundred years. Commedia was seen as one of the highest forms of entertainment, and is now considered to be the template of almost every practice of theatre. Commedia troupes performed for and were accessible to all social classes, and remarkably was also the first practice of theatre to use women. The exact origins of Commedia dell'Arte are still undetermined, but scholars believe that it was inspired by Atellan farces in Rome, Latin comedies of Terence and Plautus, Commedia Erudita (written comedy) of the Renaissance; and from clowns
Everyone in that small Sicilian town had a memory of the cinema. It is where memory was created and shared by the town people. They would gather together to watch the news, to fall in love, laugh together at the pranks, get angry at the cutting of the kiss scenes, and sometimes joining in the guilty pleasure of the prostitute’s booth in the back corner. The reason behind having many character actors instead of selected few is also easily recognizable ; the Neapolitan who later becomes the owner of Nuevo cinema Paradiso, the illiterate ticket seller, the couple who meets in the theatre, the crazy man who claims the square to be his property, the man who knows all the line to the films, these are all the interesting townspeople who later appear at Alfredo’s funeral. Seeing them still remaining in that old town , yet changed in appearance with grey hairs only emphasizes what big parts of role they played in Salvatore’s memory. Each and every one of them was eccentric representatives of the town. While the cinema continues as the prominent medium of entertainment and culture to the townspeople, the progress and shift of time is inevitably shown throughout the movie. Over 40 or so years of time, the theater undergoes many transitions. Black and white movies turn to colored movies and Ciccio introduces new technologies for the projection machine. He is also
Dramatic music, action-packed movie scenes, the screen that changes colours for different features and the blood that splatters all over the reels - all of this can be expected from the stunning looking Scarface slot.
“Media and technology are here to stay and are virtually guaranteed to play an ever-increasing role in daily life, even among the very young” (Vandewater et al., 2006, pg. e1006). This idea brings about the concern of what effects the prominence of technology will have on young children and their family dynamics. As it turns out, there seem to be three key apprehensions when it comes to this topic: change in family time, effects on the parent-child relationship, and effects on the child’s development.
