Andrea Grossmann: My Role Model

I consider my mother to be the most important person in my life because she has always been the rock in my family. She raised my two sisters and me to be independent, educated, and well-rounded individuals with little to no help from her family or my father. My mother learned at a young age that if you want something you must get up and find a way to achieve it for yourself. She worked two jobs to pay her way through college and always told my sisters and me that college was not an option, so she made sure we all

My mom has been through a lot with me she got me healthy even if she was sick during the time I was a baby, She has helped me with my reading and writing disability and has pushed me to do my best. She is a strong confident woman that is loving she loves to attend to people and has a great smile. She has shown me that even if times are hard you have to bring your head up and raise it high. I maybe a mama’s boy but my mom is one of my greatest role models and people I admire.

When we were growing up my mother made sure my siblings and I were always taken care of. She would sacrifice her own happiness for ours.

From working several jobs at a time to make sure I had everything I needed, she became the reason why I was raised the way I raised. The lesson that “ I should treat everyone like the most important person in the world because I will never know when I might need them” was engraved in my head was owned by my mother. Sometimes she would tell me that she had holes in her socks and I knew it was due to most of her money going towards my private school tuition in order for me to be able to have the best education I could get. My mother is my background, my identity, interest, and talent. She is truly the one that has set me up for success, regardless of how fatigued or overworked she is. She is the person who truly defines who I am and who I have become to this

I grew up watching my mother strive to give me a better life and become a better person. Amongst great difficulty, she decided to finish school and attend university. She has taught me so many moral values to life and has made me the man I am

Cathy Gernack, also known as my mom, is my hero because she satisfies many of the heroic qualities we discussed in class. She is brave, giving, and determined on a daily basis. She is currently employed as an Intensive Care Neonatal Nurse at Kaiser Permanente here in San Leandro. She was born and raised in Alberta, Canada. After she graduated from High School, she attended the University of Alberta and received her bachelor’s degree. In 1999, she was given an offer to move to Hawaii where she would be working at the Kaiser Permanente hospital in Honolulu. She graciously accepted the offer and brought my dad along with her as they started a new life in another country. On August, 26th 2000, I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. In 2002, my mom, my dad, and I moved to Boise, Idaho where my little brother was born. When I was four, we all moved here to San Leandro and have lived here ever since.

Her hard working nature All the struggles she has faced and handled is representative of bravery, through severe medical issues her strength has not wavered, no matter the diagnosis she continues and pushes forward. My mother throughout my youth and adulthood has taught me how to treat others fairly, but more importantly to try to understand others’ attentions and reasons. My mother shaped my ability of empathy through example. She treats every individual she meets with value and love. An example of her spiritual discernment happened when I was in middle school. My family was in an immense transition moving from Louisiana to Tennessee. Due to financial reasons, my family had to live apart for about a year, my mother in Louisiana and my father in Tennessee. Finally came the day when my mother had the opportunity to move to Tennessee. However, half way to father, in the middle of nowhere Alabama my mother’s car broke down. My mother held strong in the summer heat with two children. Even experience this misfortunate when she was so close to reuniting her family, my mother showed grace and eventually we were back on the highway with the help of AAA. A little while later we passed a van pulled over on the side of the road similar to the situation we experience earlier that day. My mother pulled over and helped the stranded family. When my brother asked why she stopped she said “I wished that someone would had pulled over to help us, I decided to help because no one stop to help us.” It is a simple lesson that I learned that day. She treated the family how she wished to be treated. My mother taught me empathy and reason which

She wholeheartedly supported my dream of studying law, as I did with her dream of becoming a scientist. We engaged in activities which allowed us to grow together. I am extremely appreciative of her willingness to join me in the debate club, accompanying me to various political events, and bringing my books to me during my many hospital visits.

My mother has had such a positive and inspiring impact on my life. Going to church every single Sunday has been a rule since I can remember. Raising me with those certain core values and instilling me with Godly wisdom is something that I will always be thankful for. My mother has also been a positive influence on me by how she lives her life day to day. She always puts others before herself, she is kind to anyone and everyone, she has a contagious personality and she lives her life for God. She has also taught me to always be myself as she does, for that is how we were created. With these valuable lessons, she has taught me the power in which I have to create a positive impact on others. I am continually grateful for these lessons I have learned, for I will take them with me throughout

Besides being compassionate my mother is thoughtful. She stays at work late if someone needs help with theirs. She brings my grandmother dinner and runs errands for her. She is always putting others before herself. For instance, last year I began singing in the choir at Iowa State. It was really important to me because singing has always been a passion of mine. She drove to Ames for every single concert. It meant a lot to me to have her in the audience supporting me. This year I also started singing in the choir at my church. I was really excited and nervous about singing the first Sunday so few days before I was going to sing she gave me a beautiful necklace with a star pendant on it. I remember her warm hug and her telling me good luck and that I was ‘her star’. It touched me that she took time out of her busy schedule to encourage and support things that she knew were important to me. She could have just wished me well and enjoyed her few minutes of spare time, but instead she put me first.

At times, I would say to myself that my mom isn’t like any other women. She is someone different that is determined to do things to get us what we wanted. i'm so blessed that I have a beautiful mother that always cares for me. my mom would do anything for her kids to make them happy. I really like to thank my mother for showing me what a truly hard working women is.
