Game day, it was an early and rainy Saturday morning. Mikia and I were up at 6:30 am after a prolonged night the previous day. Both of us were dreading the poor weather wishing it was sunnier outside and feeling like we should maybe skip the game if the weather didn’t clear up soon. But at the back of my mind I knew we couldn’t skip it, so I convinced Mikia that the weather shouldn’t stop us and eventually we both got ready. After getting ready we were both hyped for the game but our first stop was my house.
After being at my house for whoever knows how long waiting for one of our friends, Sam, to get there so he could go to our game, we were finally ready to go at 9 am. As we were approaching Centerville I kept thinking to myself everything that could go wrong like not moving enough and they could score. But I quickly dismissed those thoughts as soon as my mom was telling me to look up directions because she didn’t know where to go. It took about 15 minutes to find the field because there was no street signs. We had finally made it there late, but we were still there and we ran up to the field seeing everyone in their starting positions.

Then time was up the whistle rang and everyone switched out. Our lineup was pretty good we had good players on our team such as Eddie, Tony, Helen, Carlos and a few others since they had been playing for a few years now. After a few passes a player on the other team had fallen down and that team had gotten a penalty kick and Tony blocked it and played it in. Defense had taken the ball and then took it down the field and we had scored the goal. The score was 5-1 we were winning, but we couldn’t start getting
In the first inning we were on defense and we had our ideal positions out on the field. I was on first base and the coach's son William was the pitcher. All the other positions were filled with other athletes mostly dedicated to baseball or another sport. We had a great start to the game with an easy pop out. Although the next hit was wacked into left field getting him an easy double. We retired the last two batters with easy
We were playing Fond du lac, and they were good. So our teams gets on the ice and we start playing. We score two goals right away in the beginning. They were starting to get mad. After we scored to make it 3-0 they started sending out kids that would hit our players. Our team then started to retaliate. So we were getting penalties and before you knew it the score was 2-3. We started to realize that it wasn’t worth retaliating. There was about two minutes left in the game, and we played shutdown defense. Nobody was getting a shot on our goalie. The game ended 3-2 us so we were on our way to
One fall morning, when the sun has not come and there is still darkness, I arose from my slumber awaiting the big day I would have ahead. While I am getting ready for the game, by putting on my pads, I get ready to step out my house and get ready for an intense three hours. As I walk to the car, I can already sense the coaches hollering, and the parents just hoping that nothing would go wrong. Each road that we pass and the closer and closer that I get to the field the hollering and the screaming become louder, louder, louder, and louder. Until they stop, as I step on the field, I no longer hear the hollering and screaming. All I can hear are the coaches getting us ready for the game that would happen in fifteen
For the spare time that we had during the day, we stayed at the Witties’, the family that was considered our host team. Many people were playing board games while others were sleeping, because everyone wanted to do something to keep their mind off of the game. Then, the team planned a feast at Brady’s, a local restaurant nearby. Everyone ordered multiple entrees, but more than half of everyone’s food was still on the plate by the time we felt the restaurant. Stomachs were turning, and hands were shaking. It was time to get ready for the big game, so the team went back to the big, red house owned by the Witties to change into our uniforms. Many teammates were braiding each others hair, while other were putting on makeup in order to look great for all the pictures
We rushed out onto the field for the last time. The chilly rain was pouring down. The field was soaked. With every step I took there was a sloshing sensation in my cleat. I put my game face on. No ball would get by me. We were going to score. We were going to win. For the next twenty five minutes, I watched a back and forth in the midfield. Several times I stopped the ball and passed it forward to Kaylee, only for the pass to be intercepted before we were able to score. And then, just as the clock was running down to under five minutes left, I stopped a hard pass just outside our circle. I dribbled for several
At the end of the period my coach put me on defense. I said “coach I have 2 goals why do I have to play defense!”. But I ended up playing defense. My team scored 2 goals while I was on defense, and it became 7 to 1. Then my teammate Dominic shot one from the red line and it trickled into the net.
I was shaking from nervousness. I knew that I had to give it everything I had for the sake of my team. I ran out on the field. As the ball was being played on the other side, I prayed that I would have an opportunity to help my team. Not a minute later, the ball flew up over me and the rest of the offense. One of the midfielders dashed to the ball. She ran down into the corner and passed it to the middle. I stood there, anticipating the drop and ready to score. As the ball fell to the ground, I took a small step back. I quickly got my balance, and shot as hard as I could. Time seemed to stand still as the ball flew through the air, over the goalies hands, and right into the corner of the goal. I had done it. I had broken the tie. My whole team rushed over to give me a hug. I was almost crying from joy. I could hear my parents and the other fans cheering for me from the sidelines. Shortly after we took the lead yet again, the final whistle blew. We had
It was now one-nothing for us and my line was up. We wanted to be the next line to get that big goal. Griffen won the face-off. The defence brought the puck back to regroup. They passed it out to the left winger, who then dumped it down for me to get it. I did get it, but one of Brampton’s players came in and took it away from me. Then we were on the back check. I knew if we still wanted this lead, I would have to back check as hard as I could. I was tired, though, so I wasn’t very fast. Because of me being tired, we let up a goal. It was tied at
We were losing, but West had the ball. I remember it was fourth down and five yards. We were going crazy. Everyone was screaming and yelling, just waiting for West to score that second touchdown. The boys signaled to the crowd to get up on their feet and cheer before they started the play. Then as the boys got set and heard the whistle, I heard the snap of the ball. Seconds seemed like hours as we all watch the boys run around and look for the pass. Then it happened. The running back Dotieon Combs had a 40-yard touchdown! The boys then showed us what they’re made of and scored the two-point conversion. West was in the lead, 16-14. There were still a few minutes left on the clock, but our defense was ready to hold North back as if their life depended on it. The minutes seemed to float away but they also seemed to drag on. With five seconds left on the clock, and West still in the lead, the crowd was electric. After three years of losing, this could finally be it. As the ball snapped, I saw North anticipating a pass to the end zone. I wanted to warn the boys, but their was so much excitement that I couldn’t find the words. I didn’t need to warn them though. The boys were on the top of their game and also saw the pass. As North threw the ball to the upper left hand corner of the end zone, one of our boys showed more determination than the North player. He jumped much higher to block the pass than the North player did to catch it. That was the moment.
After a sleepless night Saturday finally came around. As the team warmed up for the game I began to have butterflies. At last the first whistle was blown to start the game. Eventually it was time for are offensive unit to go in. On the very first drive I powered my way threw the the line of scrimmage and broke a huge 30 yard touchdown.
I was very nervous because this would be the first time I had ever played a full game on both sides of the ball. I watched the captains go out and I kept thinking to myself, please let us get the ball. We got the ball and the crowd went crazy. We received the ball and ran it to our forty yard line. The game was all one way for us through halftime as the score was eight to zero. I had not had a huge impact yet with a few blocks and a couple tackles. The final whistle of the first half blew and we headed into the locker rooms. The coach said something needed to change because the score should not be what it is at right now. We got all our stuff ready and ran back out to the sidelines. We kicked off to start the third
Jeremy, my coach, was giving us our half time speech. We all huddled in a circle after and some of my teammates make a speech about what we need to do better and how we are playing. Once the referee blows the whistle we jog onto the field. I was playing center back with sadie. The score was 3-0 when the second half started.
I am an optimist and a fighter; I do not give up easily. As we walked back to the sideline at halftime, I reached out to my defensive backs and started to highlight the positive things that we did, such as limiting our opponents to three goals, emphasizing how well we were communicating, and reliving the passes that exposed the weaknesses of the other team. It’s a mindset, I remembered thinking to myself, and at halftime, it was a matter of re-energizing the entire team and pointing out that it takes teamwork to accomplish a goal. As we started the second half, we scored a goal, then another one. The other team capitalized on a mistake and scored yet another goal, making our goal of winning so much harder.
I am getting myself prepared for the biggest game I have in my career. The 2014 State Championship game. My team had driven from Temple,Texas to San Marcos,Texas, a three hour drive. I am only a little bit nervous because I know my team can win. We are waiting for the game before us to finish so we can play our hearts out. The referee blows the final whistle, and we step on to field and warm up. We pass the ball around playing keep away. The referees call for captains. My coach tell me which side he wants and I went over. The outcome was my team got our side and kickoff which was a win-win. My coach gives my team the lineup. I am playing defense which is no surprise. We break out and take the field. The other team plays really tight, but we have played them before so we know what they are like. We pass quickly and work the ball around the field. Soon the other team is out of position ,and we score a goal. We do some more passing. Making the other team run more which makes them more tired. We take a few more shots but we miss. Half time is called and then we go back to work. The other team gets a break away and in chasing the girl. As soon as she kicks the ball as hard as she can I stick my right foot out. The ball hits my
It seemed that every time they got an opportunity to score they did because of that we quickly went down 4-0 in the score. It was very frustrating cause we had not lost in a long time and we were losing by a big amount. At this point most of the players and i were very demotivated because we thought the game was over. It felt bad because we put all the effort to get to this championship without losing and it seemed like all the effort was for nothing because we were down by four and in soccer with that type of lead you're almost certain to win. Then the whistle blew for halftime and all of us walked to the sideline with disappointment on our face. When we got to the sideline we sat down and it was silent. No one was talking not any of the players of any of the parents. Then the coach came and told us that we got to this point with no trouble and now we were falling apart. He tried to rally us up but we all still though we were going to lose. Then someone's parent offered us a team trip is we came back and won the game but again we didn't think much of it cause we still thought we were going to lose. Then the whistle blew to come back out to the field and finish the
