Angela Ciera Barnes was born on June 1, 1998, in Salisbury, MD to Sarah Baines and Angelo Barnes. On March 7, 2017 Angela passed away surrounded by loved ones and friends. Angela graduated Bakersfield High School in 2016 and also attended BC. Angela life had its ups and downs but she still manage to smile through the hard times and encourage other people to be happy with her positive attitude and words of motivation. She was a loving girlfriend to Roger and sister to Kieania and Kevin. Services are scheduled on March 22, 2017, 10:00 am at Emmanuel Temple Church.
Angela was forced to marry Bayardo San Roman ever since he asked her to marry her. It never gave Angela the chance to know Bayardo San Roman. On page 20 it states, “It was Angela Vicario who didn't want to marry him.” She clearly did not love Bayardo, and did not want to marry him. Angela’s mother, Pura Vicario said, "Love can be learned too." Pura wants her daughter to marry Bayardo, and learn to love him.
Barbara Jordan was born on February 21, 1936 in Houston Texas. She was the youngest child of three. Her father Benjamin Jordan was a Baptist minister and warehouse clerk. Her mother, Arlyne was a maid, housewife and church teacher. Jordan went to college at the University of Texas. She graduated from college being one out of two African American women in her class. Jordan passed away from viral pneumonia on January 17, 1996. Barbara Jordan is a modern here because she is a brave woman, she overcame racism, she is also a civil rights activist.
Alice Brown Davis- lived all of her life serving the Seminole Nation, in the early nineteenth century. She mostly taught, but she ran a trading post called Arbeka. She also built a ranch, was in charge of other local Native American currency, and was the superintendent of the Seminole girls' school. Not to mention she was a law interpreter, and even traveled to Palm beach, Florida to act as an interpreter a murder trial involving a Seminole man. In 1922 she became chief by President Warren G. Harding. Here, she became the first women to lead the Seminole Nation. Though, she was elected by the president, not by her tribe. Her tribe found her to be “well thought of and well respected and the people were happy with having her as Chief. “
It was a privilege to listen to Stephanie Garrison share her story and provide encouragement for our own lives. Personally, I found it very admirable how willing she was to share and be vulnerable. Anyways, Stephanie is currently in her 14th year at Southeastern and serves as the Assistant Athletic Director under Drew Watson. Beginning in the athletics department in January of 2014, as the Director of Operations. Before she joined the athletic department, she served as the Director of Event Services, Resident Director, Online learning coordinator and a variety of other departments at Southeastern. She is a two time graduate of Southeastern, earning a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Management and an MBA. Laura S. Haviland risked her own life trying to make a difference for the lives of others. She was not very concerned about what would happen to her, she just wanted to make sure others were getting what she thought they deserved. She was an abolitionist and a writer. Throughout her life she was devoted to helping people in many different ways, spending much of her life doing different activities that involved helping people, most importantly slaves and their families. These were things she never had to do, but chose to do. She took it upon herself to spend her life doing this. One of the biggest things she devoted her life to was the underground railroad. She also helped to make big improvements for African Americans. This almost cost her, her life, but she kept going and helping. Without Laura Haviland's demanding work and dedication Michigan would not have made such drastic improvements as they did during this time. A writer, who is like Olivia Pope for the women of color, and been working in order to expand the narrowness and inaccurate narratives of women of color in the mainstream media, is Michaela Angela Davis. By profession, Davis is an Image Activist, creative director, writer, and cultural commentator. She is a fixer of sorts that seeks to change pessimistic cognizance of Black women in the entertainment and media.
Angela L. Shine, LMSW is a local, regional and national champion of increasing mental health awareness, especially working together with interfaith organizations and communities. Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, Angela currently lives in Columbus, Mississippi. She is a graduate of Tennessee State University and the University of Tennessee at Knoxville where she received her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degree, respectively, in social work.
“I could have been in college, I would have been working,” Briana said. “Nova slows me down. Sometimes I do wish I would have had an abortion, but I love Nova, I do not regret her. It’s just hard sometimes” (Maier). Briana DeJesus, a Puerto Rican teenager, was unfortunate to become pregnant at a young age, which had put a set back to all her future plans. DeJesus is a child of a single mother and has grown up in poverty. She believed that she had the love and support from her child’s biological father resulting in her keeping her child rather than terminating. As revealed, she often regrets her decision and wonders how her life would have been if she terminated her pregnancy, but she would not turn back the clock and had an abortion, as she loves her child.
Brinta was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 6th 1996. She was married to her husband, Dr. Kevin Chacko for 60 years. Together they had two children, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Brinta completed her undergrad in Edmond, Oklahoma, masters in Houston, Texas, and doctorates in Dallas, Texas. She was a professor at UTD teaching Kinesiology for 35 years. Not only was she a professor, she was also a Sunday school teacher, worship leader, and mentor.
Arlene Kingsley was born in San Diego, California on September 27th, 1953 to Donna Lou Hamby and Martin Wayne Blackburn. Born in the military she traveled around until she grew roots in Colorado in 1982.
Angela stated that growing up her mother was sick. She remembers having to assist her mother a lot and was not fully able to have much of a childhood. When she was 19 years old, she married her now husband. Her and her husband moved from West Virginia to New Jersey for a few years and worked installing cable. Angela stated
Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta. She was raised by her parents and her older sister. Her sister almost died at the age of one due to the illness of meningitis just escaping death.
Since Angela was of no use to her family or even to Ireland, and many were finding their place in America, his grandmother gave her the fare to travel to America. Angela landed in America during the time of the Great Depression. Her upbringing and class she was born into appears to have been a predetermining antagonistic factor in the lives and upbringing of her own children.
St. Angela Merici was born in 1474 in Desenzano del Garda, Italy. Her parents died when she was 15, leaving her and her sister orphans. She went to live with her uncle, and while she was living with him, her sister died (St. Angela Merici). After her sister’s death, she joined the Franciscan Third Order (Glavich). After her uncle’s death, she moved back to her hometown of
