While many people would like to think animal cruelty no longer exist, what people fail to realize is that it is still happening all over then world today. The treatment of animals is completely unethical. Ethics is defined as, the study of moral standards and how they affect conduct. We live in a world governed by ethics and the concept or right and wrong. This is why animal cruelty in today society is so unreal. The fact animals are still regarded as a product rather then living breathing creatures is morally wrong. Unfortunately our morals don't extend to animals. Although many people claim that they are against animal cruelty they still see animals as forms of entertainment, clothing, and experiments which is complete unethical. Animals …show more content…
In addition to being used as forms of entertainment, animals today are also used as clothing. The Fur Farming industry manufactures fur trim and fur coats which are a major trend in today's fashion industry. Unfortunately this fashion trend comes with a price. "Approximately 3.5 million furbearing animals- raccoons, coyotes, bobcats, lynxes, opossums, nutria, beaver, muskrats, otters, and others are killed each year" (Fur farming). No animals are spared when it comes to Fur farming. Fur even comes from cats and dogs. This process is not a painless "To kill the animals without damaging their fur, trappers usually strangle, beat, or stomp them to death. Animals on fur farms may be gassed, electrocuted, poisoned with strychnine, or have their necks snapped" (Fur is Dead). Some animals are even skinned alive. Then their fur is sent to stores such as J. Crew and sold as trendy clothing. There is nothing humane about the way these animals are killed. The people, who kill these animals, do not make it a quick and painless death they torture these poor animals. This behavior is completely inhumane, and needs to be stopped. There are plenty of companies that use synthetic fur. Animals are also used in medical research. This process is called vivisection which is the cutting or operation of a living animal for physiological or pathological investigation. While many people feel animal experimentation is justified due, to the fact that it could potentially lead to
Animal vivisection is the study, experimentation and research of any animal. Animal rights activists are opposed to using animals for medical research and experimentation because humans do not have the right to use animals. With very few exceptions, we do not experiment on humans without their consent. Animals can’t give informed consent and the vast majority of experiments using animals are so invasive and damaging, that we would never even consider allowing humans to being subject to such experiments. Every year, animals are dissected, infected, injected, gassed, burned and blinded in hidden laboratories all over the world, most of the time without anesthetic or pain killers. If they aren’t killed by the testing, the animals are often not kindly but brutally killed. The dead animals are frequently left stacked in wheelbarrows in front of the animal cages.
Is animal testing a cruelty an experiment in cruelty. There are many good things that come from animal testing, but there are also a lot of bad things. From animal testing, researchers find medicines that help many people. Also, researchers see if drugs are safe to use on humans, and if they work. However, many animals are killed and kept in captivity and will never be free. Also, animals and humans are not the same, so some drugs that work on animals may be harmful for humans. Animal testing is cruel because it is bad on animals, it is expensive, and many animals are killed or are never the same.
cows, horses and many more are skinned alive and left for dead to suffer a brutal execution (Dudley 17). Fur farms are at an even bigger fault in this clothing industry of horror. In many cases there are thousands of animals raised in a crammed cage and then are forced to relieve themselves directly where they stand developing many illnesses and infections (Whalow 2). Many of these animals do not even know what the ground feels like. Often some may die of starvation, infection or other illnesses and be left for dead in these cages for days (Kerven 14).
In October of 2012, a Jack Russell Terrier puppy named Phoenix was set on fire in Buffalo N.Y. The woman who discovered him was attracted by black smoke. She managed to put out the the flames with her sweater and proceeded to rush him to a small animal hospital with severe burns over his whole body and a serious ankle infection. Although he lost 60% off of both of his ears he maintained almost complete mobility of his leg. He still has a slight limp. Judi Bunge, a senior vet technician at Buffalo Small Animal Hospital who had been looking after Phoenix, adopted him soon after he had fully recovered. He now lives with Judi and her two other dogs. "Phoenix will become a therapy dog and continue his work as an ambassador for the
Every 60 seconds an animal is abused. Dogs, cats, horses, and many other types of animals are being neglected and tortured everyday, yet resulting in few and minor consequences for the perpetrators. Animal abuse is prevalent in the United States and has been an ongoing issue since the 1970's, and prior to. Society as a whole has chosen to avoid the facts and arguments about animal cruelty, because to some it is seen as acceptable and typical. It becomes much more frowned upon when people actually see the results of the cruelty, especially in the media.
Animal cruelty can be either deliberate abuse or simply the failure to take care of an animal. Either way, or whether the animal is a pet, a farm animal or wildlife, the victim can suffer terribly. Animal cruelty is an ethical and moral dilemma as there is no clear right or wrong answers that can solve all of the issues. There are numerous opinions on how this issue can be solved, these include;
Intro: Can you imagine having the urge to intentionally hurt or even kill your helpless little puppy? Over the years, animal abuse has increased an unbelievable amount. I believe animal rights need to be enforced to people across the world. Animals are helpless creatures that should only be making the world a better place. I will enforce my belief by explaining what animal cruelty are, animal abandonment laws, and how to report animal cruelty.
Jason Wyckoff writes in “Toward Justice for Animals”, that “Until fairly recently, philosophers and animal advocates have generally treated the question of what we owe to non-human animals as an ethical question, with a primary focus on the treatment of particular animals, rather than as a social or political question, with a focus on the use, exploitation, commodification, or systematic extermination of animals.” (Wyckoff 539). In other words, humans have only looked into the morality of animal cruelty on a small scale. Is it right or wrong? If talking about a person killing an animal for no reason, the answer would be yes. But what about the killing of an animal for a materialistic reason, such as the skinning of animals for coats, shoes, or fashion accessories? Because this is done on such a large scale, and has been for a long time, the line between right and wrong has been blurred. Today’s society condemns the illegal hunting of a lion, but keeps quiet on the legal killing of other animals to fulfill their avaricious needs. This is when the morality of the subject becomes
Being an Animal Cruelty Investigator has been something that has interested me for a long time since I came across the show “Animal Cops.” I know a few things about this career. First, I know that it can be at times a very dangerous job not just because of the mistreated animals, but because of the crazy people too. From encountering an abused animal that only knows a life of punishment and horrible training they can be skittish and scared causing them to lash out at any point. The humans on the other hand who have hurt these animals are bad people and deserve time in jail, which they can't accept causing them to also lash out at any point just like the animals may. I also know that it involves a lot of patience, staying calm and decent communication skills. When on the job, there is gonna be many sad sights of abused pets and not every one of them will make it out alive in the end and one working has to be able to control their emotions when it comes down to the sadness of it all. Also, they have to be able to talk to
Animal cruelty is a serious issue in the U.S. and it needs to be stopped. Why would anyone be cruel to animals? Why are animals used for entertainment? Should people I try to stop someone from abusing an animal if they I see it? How can people I find out if a company tests its products on animals? Data has stated that in America, 70.1% animal cruelty cases involved dogs, 20.9% involved cats, and 24.1% involved other animals. Finding the answers to these questions will help people to become more aware of animal cruelty and hopefully change their treatment on animals.
Each year billions of animals are being tortured, blinded, scaled and used. Humans create these devastating events that occur. Animals experience pain and confusion throughout their life. There is great entertainment seeing animals in circuses and zoos but, there is a very dark side on how the animal performs. An elephant is beaten and trained until they are stripped from their spirit. Breeders are breeding large amount of animals, and shelters are becoming increasingly crowded. Animals are even sharing breathing space. The ignorance of our society is convincing that breeding animals are honorable. In reality, society is not just using animals for entertainment and breeding, but mass production of food. People are killing these animals
Take a moment to think about the word "animal". Animals are not stuffed toys you find at the toy store. They are delicate living, breathing creatures that were given a life just as humans were. Their lives shouldn’t be taken away because of neglect, entertainment, or designer merchandise. They have to fight for survival against humans when we should be the ones cherishing them.
According to the ASPCA “Approximately 7.6 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, approximately 3.9 million are dogs and 3.4 million are cats. Each year, approximately 2.7 million animals are euthanized (1.2 million dogs and 1.4 million cats). In this study, we can see how many domestic animals are being abused. These animals are simply suffering for the enjoyment of the owner, and these animal’s deaths are most importantly meaningless because the death didn’t lead to any technological advancements in the medical field or contributed to its society. This is something that could rapidly spread if we ignore animal rights. We can also see millions of animals being killed and sold to the black market for their rich ivory. Over 10,000 elephants have been killed in the past three years for their ivory stated by an article on national geographic. This is yet again another claim that animal rights activist state that this is important. Overall ignoring animal rights can come with great things but it also has its
A lot of human success is due to vivisection, otherwise known as animal experimentation. Some experiments involve infecting animals with a deadly disease, poisoning them for testing toxicity levels, and subjecting them to other painful, and even life threatening experiments. There are new alternatives ways of testing without involving the lives of helpless animals, it is no longer necessary to test with these creatures. They do not provide scientists with completely accurate information. Although it is now deemed as cruel, in the past, animal testing was responsible for many cures.
Animals are an important and valued part of many families and cultures. In many households, animals are considered members of the family, receive Christmas and birthday presents, and are cared for just as a human child would be. Opposition to animal cruelty has even become a sort of universal value in American culture(Kordzek 604). But animals are uniquely vulnerable to abuse, and despite this they still do not receive much needed protection from the law. The penalties for animal cruelty are not frequently severe enough to even deter one from harming an animal. This is dangerous not only for animals, but for human beings too. Animal cruelty and domestic violence have been proven to correlate in countless ways, and recognizing animal cruelty as a serious criminal offense and a form of domestic violence would serve to protect both animals and human beings from needless acts of violence. Instituting stiffer criminal penalties for animal cruelty and increasing the protective measures for victims of abuse is necessary to further the protection of both animals and human beings.
