Many people feel they have freedom but other people feel they don’t have that freedom. When some of the animals in Animal Farm by George Orwell felt Napoleon was a good leader and will give the animals freedom but they were forced to work harder with no break. Napoleon was a bad leader to lead the animals but had Squealer by his side to help him to command the animals and to control the farm the way they wanted.
Squealer was Napoleon’s friend when he was the leader of the farm. Napoleon always had a bad idea, he will convince the animals making them think it’s a good plan to follow his friend Napoleon. When Napoleon had a bad idea to build many more windmills after their first windmill was destroyed by Mr.Jones animals thought it was a bad idea but squealer has convinced them it will be a good idea to build them again. He also showed that he didn’t have to work with the rest of the animals just for being Napoleon’s best friend he had also commanded the animals to work harder to make Napoleon proud. Squealer always had Napoleons back when he had problems with the animals or the farmers. Squealer would never leave Napoleon, he would always be by his side helping him out making

Napoleon forced the animals to work for him and if the animals didn’t want to work they would be punished. He will threaten them to do their jobs, he had nine dogs to make them pay for not working. Also Napoleon was afraid to fight against the farmers when they were trying to take over the farm. He would show the animals cruelty by making them work harder during storms and while they are injured. How Napoleon made boxer work during a storm when boxer hada injury on his leg. Napoleon did not allow the animals to have their freedom because the animals had to build the windmill. Napoleon was also not fair for making the animals work while he can relax and eat all the food he can eat but the others can not eat as
One way Napoleon took control of Animal Farm was by Ideology. By using Ideology to take control, he used the Seven Commandments. The Seven Commandments were seven rules that the animals had to live by. The Seven Commandments were reduced to two legs good, four legs bad. After seeing Squealer lying in the
“Outline the ways in which Napoleon obtained and maintained power on Animal Farm. What message is Orwell conveying to the reader through these processes?';
Napoleon was an exquisite character in the book: Animal Farm. He overpowered all the animals, and they followed. He was acknowledged as the leader, and the creator as their “Animal Farm”. No humans, no using human-made items, and never lay where a human has laid. Napoleon’s rules were simple. However he grew to the point where he wasn’t even following them, and was changing them as life went on. Animal farm included many instances where Napoleon was commanding as a dictatorship rather than a democracy.
Firstly, Napoleon uses manipulation to generate a cult of personality in the Animal Farm. Napoleon directly shows how he manipulated the animals as he believed “...[weaker] animals on Animal Farm did more work and [would] receive less food than any animals in the country” (92).Napoleon shows how he only cares about himself as he uses the animals. He would make the animals do labour to support himself and to be powerful.The animals would agree to everything that he said because they believed that Napoleon wanted the best for them. Napoleon made the animals believe that they were in better conditions even though “starvation seemed to stare them in the face.” (50). He did a great job to hid the reality from the animals. His thoughts and
He goes on to imply that all animals should appreciate the sacrifice Napoleon has made in becoming their leader. He explains leadership is not a pleasure, rather it is a "Deep and heavy responsibility." The syntax Squealer uses is familiar to the animals that are used to wading in deep mud doing heavy duty work. Squealer knows the other animals are not very intelligent so these words would impress the others as they know they could not carry out such a task. Squealer can be seen here exploiting one of the animals' biggest flaws: their lack of intelligence and their inability to see through his shroud manipulation. He is ensuring that none of the other animals would want to be a leader. Squealer explains that Napoleon would be happy letting the other animals make their own decisions if he thought they would make the right ones following Snowball for example, would not be the right decision as far as the other pigs are concerned. The animals are lulled into a false sense of security that the pigs will look after them. This would further increase their trust in what Squealer is saying to them. However, one of the animals say Snowball was a brave pig. Squealer goes on to explain "Loyalty and obedience are more important." This would condition the
In George Orwell’s Animal Farm, the pigs are in control. Napoleon became the official leader after Snowball was chased out by the dogs. Squealer, Napoleon’s sidekick, now has social control over the farm animals. Squealer uses language to confuse and persuade the animals into thinking the commandments did not change, humans are allies and not enemies, and that some animals are more equal than others.
He gave them the false inspiration and hope that they were working for to stay free. This is what Hitler did to the Jews who were able to work, he had in his concentration camps say “work to be free”, but in reality he did not have the intention to set them free. The reason as to why the animals did not rebel was for two reasons. One being that they just were not educated at all and the other reason is because Napoleon has an immense amount of fierce dogs around him at all times. This made him an intimidating pig. The animals were oblivious to the corruption around them that he shrugged off a fellow animal dying by another simply because Napoleon said it was fine and the Commandments said that it was exceptional. The dumbest of the animals was a horse named boxer. Because he was the strongest of the farm animals, what he said greatly influenced the others animals, and because he was on the side of Napoleon the other animals followed. There were many times were the animals would have revolted without Boxer present, but after he died, it was too late to turn back. He inspired the animals by constantly saying, “I will work harder”, and, “Napoleon is always right”. This often concluded questions regarding Napoleon’s style of handling business.
When Squealer uses this technique the animals are lied to corrupting the honesty they supposedly had. As Squealer uses this technique Napoleon and him gain more power over the animals. Squealer’s use of hyperbole is not the only technique he uses that affects the farm. Squealer also uses
The antagonist of the book ‘Animal Farm’, Napoleon was highly emphasized for his cruel tactics that he upheld against his fellow animals. He tortured and tormented them giving himself the title of a cruel leader. This sense of tyranny is why he resembles Mr.Jones the previous owner of Manor Farm. Similar to Mr.Jones, Napoleon has created a caste system in which he is the “farmer” and the rest of the animals are his “slaves”, he has shown that he only uses the animals for his own monetary gain, and that he uses fear and propaganda to control the rest of the animals. In this essay I will compare and contrast the two individuals.
In ANIMAL FARM, Orwell shows how both the leaders and the followers in a society can act in ways that destroy freedom and equality. Choose one leader and one follower from the novel and explain how the behavior of each contributes to the loss of freedom and equality on Animal Farm.
Napoleon is manipulative to get what he wants, and is very controlling. When he doesn’t like something that the animals have done he gives punishment. When the hens rebelled, he cut off their food proportions. Let me just add that this is also cruel to us. Napoleon constantly is changing some of the commandments. For instance, the one where you can’t sleep
George Orwell uses characterization to show Napoleon’s character development throughout the story. Orwell uses characterization in Animal Farm to show how Napoleon went from an ordinary pig to the dictator. In the beginning of Animal Farm, while Jones was still in charge, Napoleon started out the same as the other pigs. He had to follow the
“Democracy is not a government; it is a way of thinking, a responsibility” (Aricruz). Democracy is a system based upon a government of people. It focuses on the freedom of every individual. It is important as it protects each and everyone’s opinion, even the minority groups have the right to be respected and their views are as important as the majority views. In Animal Farm, George Orwell shows the negative outcome of socialism which exposes democracy as the best political system. By examining the political side of this novel many events we see through Old major’s character and the song ‘Beast of England’ demonstrates the advantage of working as a democratic society.
This shows that Squealer is changing the animals minds. He is using words that none of the animals on the farm understand and saying them in a persuasive way to manipulate all of the animals. In addition, Squealer gives a speech about how snowball fled during the battle and how Napoleon was the one to hurt and chase off Mr. Jones (Page 81). This shows how Squealer is making Snowball look like the bad guy. He is manipulating the animals into thinking this so that they won’t rebel and will be loyal and follow Napoleon without question.
“I will work harder!” and “Napoleon is always right.” are my two favorite quotes. Working hard can lead to a very successful life for all the animals on the fantabulous Animal Farm. Our farm is great because, everyone, except the cat, does a lot of work, I do more work but that’s to make sure the farm runs smoothly. You can usually find me doing work out in the field or dragging rocks to the windmill sight. The windmill was going perfectly and we were almost were done and then Snowball knocked it down. A few days ago a chicken asked me why I work so hard and still get nothing in return, I replied “I may be a simple work horse but I know that working hard conquers a lot of problems.” There is another thing, I remember Old major’s speech it
