The theme, identity was a significantly shown throughout the play. Anne Frank specifically, had many personality traits that goes along with her identity. Her identity is displayed through her independence, her relationship with others, and her conflicts that make her who she is. Anne is shown in multiple scene of the play to be or wanting to be independent. An example would be when they first arrived in annex and Edith, Anne’s mother, babies her. Anne becomes displeased that her mother won’t treat her as an adult. Even though Anne wasn’t as mature at that time, she wanted to be treated as if she were an adult. Adults are seen to be independent, which prove her want to be independent. Another example would be, when Anne stood up for herself to the Van Daans. Afterwards, her mother tells Anne that she should be more like Margot. Anne tells her mother that the Van Daans would walk over her if she was. This …show more content…
An example would be when Anne had a nightmare, and her mother tried consoling her. Anne pushed her mother away and ask for her father. When Otto comes in Anne’s room, Anne tells him that her and her mother are very different. Anne doesn’t identify herself to be like her mother who is gentle. Another example would be when Anne and Margot have a discussion about their mother. Margot says that their mother can’t talk back like Anne. Anne is identified as self-reliant, while their mother has troubles with keeping her ground. The last example with Anne and her mother is when her mother scolds her saying that she must be courteous to the guests and not talk back. Edith feels that guests must be respected no matter what they do. Anne’s outspoken personality doesn’t agree and when she needs to defend herself, she will. Anne and Edith have very different personality which created a problem between the two of them. In the end, They both accept that and find a way to make it work
Ever played a game of hide and seek? Well it was slightly like that for the Franks (A Jewish family living during the Holocaust) except they were forced to play, and if caught the consequences were deadly. The theme of Anne Frank is human growth involves pain, this is the theme because life can’t flow smoothly without a few bumps, there's always a few things you have to get past first. Anne Frank and her family were forced into hiding because they were Jewish, and Jewish people were discriminated against and killed in concentration camps during the Holocaust.
The first part of the diary starts with her being a regular girl having fun and turns into a girl going into hiding with seven other people. In addition, she has to deal with relation problems with her mom, sister, and the people she is in hiding with. The problems begin when eight people are confined in a small area and everybody begins to irritate and annoy one another. Anne was especially concerned with herself and with her attitude towards the others in the group. She's mainly concerned with her mother who always treats her like baby. Mr. Frank tires to ease the quarrels between them by telling Anne to help out more around the house, but Anne stubbornly declines preferring to concentrate more on her studies. She especially gets plenty of confrontations with Mrs. Van Daan who thinks she is a spoiled little girl. Mrs. Van Daan constantly tells Anne’s father, “ If Anne were my daughter.” Anne’s respond to this in her diary was, “Thank heavens I’m not!” Of course
Throughout her time of hiding, Anne had a diary where she could express her thoughts and feelings about the situation. She wrote down what was happening, how she feels about what's happening, and her opinions on the people she is living with. Her opinion of her mother changed as they were there. For what I can tell before hiding, Anne loved and cared for her mother as much as anyone else in her family. As time went on, her mother was unbearable to Anne. Anne wrote, "Mother is unbearable. She insists on treating me like a baby." Anne says this because she believes that she is able to
“It's a wonder I haven't abandoned all my ideals, they seem so absurd and impractical. Yet I cling to them because I still believe in spite of everything, that people are truly good at heart.” (Anne Frank) Anne Frank was one of the many children who fell victim to the Holocaust during the World War II. Anne’s story is nothing short of a tragedy; she died at the early age of fifteen from Typhus while being held by the Nazi Regime, in the concentration camp Bergen-Belsen. Before dying, Anne and her family went into hiding and lived secretly in her father's office building in the Netherlands. While living in the “Annex,” a secret hiding place, she developed many interests such as reading and writing. Anne is famous because she is one of the best-known victims of the Holocaust, her story has been shared with millions in a publication of her diary, and through her writing’s she introduces many people to the massacre and its horror.
The Diary of Anne Frank is about a girl that kept a diary while hiding from Nazi’s in Amsterdam for two years. The diary ends when the Nazi’s found her and her family. Her whole family was killed in exception for her father. She was given the journal on her thirteenth birthday. She simply summarized her life for two years in this phenomenal journal.
How would you feel if you had to go into hiding for 2 years? Anne Frank had to go into hiding with her family, the Van Daan family, and Mr. Dussel. They all were in a small annex above Mr. Frank’s old business. As you can imagine there were a lot of fighting and at the end Anne still said “In spite of everything, I still believe people are really good at heart.” I agree with Anne because everything they all went through in 2 years: people stealing food, fighting almost everyday, and families almost getting thrown out of the annex, she still believed that people were good at heart. The reason I agree with Anne is that she was trying to change even though people were mean. At least she was trying to fix her attitude unlike others. Although I can see why other people would argue that some people are bad at heart, because Mr. Van Daan and his selfishness, and greediness.
Jews have perished because of their beliefs since the beginning of time but never have so many Jews been persecuted worldwide as they were in World War II. Anne Frank’s diary reaches a place within all of our hearts because it reminds us how easily the innocents can suffer. Sometimes we may choose to close our eyes or look the other way when unjustifiable things happen in our society and Anne’s tale reminds us that ignorance, in part, claimed her life. Sadly, her story is but one of many of those who died in the Holocaust and as with other Jews, her fate was determined by the country she lived in, her sex and her age.
love with Anne; "Peter loves me not as a lover but as a friend and
In the play, The Diary of Anne Frank, Anne is a dynamic character who is disrespectful and immature in the beginning of the play. When Anna had a nightmare in the beginning of the play, her mother came into her room to comfort her. Her mother offered Anne water and to stay with her until she fell asleep, but Anne said it wasn’t necessary to stay. When Mrs. Frank stated, “But I’d like to start with you . . . Very much. Really.” Anne replied, “I’d rather you didn’t” (398). This scene demonstrates Anne is both immature and rude because she rejects her mother’s help. Her mother is likely very hurt by this rejection, especially since, as her mother leaves the room, Anne asks for her father instead. In the end of the play, Anne shows she is a dynamic character by displaying the character traits brave and thoughtful. While Peter and Anne
At first, Anne was terrified to go into hiding but her positivity and hope showed and taught many people lessons on how you should look at life. Anne had such a big influence on the people who read her diary. The play that was constructed off of her diary writings really lets us understand how and what Anne was feeling along with the others in the house. The Franks in addition to their friends, had people who helped them out while they were in hiding. This is one reason why Anne would have thought that people were really good at heart. One prime example is Miep Gies. She helped the Franks even though she was not faithful in the Jewish religion. Meip replenished everyone in the group by bringing them what they needed. She had a well thought out tactic that helped her be able to bring supplies to the secret annex. She never gave up on them and helped them through their entire hiding. This shows that people may not believe in the same things as you, but deep in their heart, they are willing to help anyone in need. The group of people hiding in the secret annex was in need, they had no way of getting food or any other supplies. This is where Miep came in to help them. She brought them the food, plus all of the supplies that they needed, therefore, making them live much longer than they should have. In the play, you could tell how happy the family was to see her. On page 326, we read, “Thank you, Miepia. You shouldn’t have done it.” this was
Are people aware of their own good nature, are others aware of their good nature? Anne Frank’s statement, that people are truly good at heart, is true. The current generation and the past generation has had its faults, it’s troubles and events. For instance, the Holocaust and the recent Florida school shooting. Yet, there is always good in the world, no matter the tyrant. People will sacrifice their own for others. They have the ability to change their mind from the worst, to the best. Deep down, everyone cares for something.
One thing they have in common is they are all where home schooled. They all believed in the star of David religion. They are all Jewish kids or teens living in the secret annex with other families. They all died differently. However, I think this is where the similarity between the three teenagers ends.
Discrimination is now becoming a well-known term around the world; many acknowledge it from the time they came across: sexism, racism, ageism, and the type Anne Frank came across, persecution. Anne Frank was a thirteen-year-old Jewish girl who was hiding from the German Army or the Nazi’s, as they are better recognized back then. Her life story consisted of constantly escaping and being in isolation from those who wanted her dead; it was a difficult time to live in. Anne Frank was attacked because of her differences; Adolf Hitler (leader of the Nazi’s) was killing anyone who was not classified as “pure” or part of the “superior race”.
In the text, Anne tries very hard to care for her mother, and not be so mean. Anne used to be extremely furious with her mother. This was only because they did not thoroughly understand each other. Anne knew that her mother loved her, yet she also believes, “...she landed in so many unpleasant situations through me…”
comparison I can think of is when I moved to middle school. I was the
