With Waiting Comes Reward Good things will come as long as you can be patient. Patience shows through the texts The Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, The People Could Fly by Virginia Hamilton, and Invictus by William Earnest Henly. Patience is key. As long as you can be patient, you can get through any situation. The first example of patience is Mr. Frank from The Diary of Anne Frank by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett. The Diary of Anne Frank tells a story about a young girl with a diary living in an Annex, trying to hide from Nazis so she doesn’t have to go to forced labor and death camps. On page 430, Mr. Frank says, " If we wait patiently, quietly, I believe that help will come." Because Mr. Frank is being the patient one he will be able to make it through tough times. Mr. Frank stayed strong and waited, so he may make it which …show more content…
The People Could Fly tells a story about slaves who worked all day long but they stayed patient and had hope, yet they were able to escape. On page 361, it says, " Hadn't the time to teach them to fly, they must wait for a chance to run." I chose this quote because Toby tells them if they can be patient long enough they will get their chance to get away. The others will wait and eventually get away, which shows patience. Finally the last example of patience is Invictus by William Earnest Henley. Invictus tells a story about a man determined never to change his will or his fate. On line 11, he says, " and yet the menace of the years." Menace means to be threatened, so over the years he must have been threatened a lot. I believe that the quote means you can over come any obstacle with enough patience. Another quote I found that supports my theme is, on line 13, " It matters not how straight the gate." This means he has slim chances, but I believe that with patience he can defeat the low odds and make it through hard
A famous quote from salva is,”stay calm when things are hard or not going right for you. You will get through it when you persevere instead or quitting. Quitting leads to much less happiness in life than perseverance and hope”
The theme, patience, is important to the story of The Diary of Anne Frank since it helps describe how they have to live. Mr. Frank explains to everyone living in the Annex, the time where everyone has to be quite. “ The men come at about eight-thirty, and leave at about five-thirty. So, to be perfectly safe, from eight in the morning until six in the evening we must move only when it is necessary,” (Goodrich & Hackett pg.707). Therefore, the shown quote reveals the theme of patience, since it explains that the family has to wait for long tedious hours until the workers leave at five-thirty. Mr. Frank explains that subsequently all of the members can talk and walk around after six o’clock, without the fear of being heard. “After six we can move
The story of Anne Frank is probably one of the most recognized and well known in the world. The experiences she and her family suffered through as they hid from the Nazis during the Holocaust. Their story is well documented in Anne’s own words through her diary. She revealed the horror and difficulties her family faced as they hid in an attic (the annex) for two years from the Nazis. Somehow, despite starvation, hours of total silence, and being separated from the outside world, she maintained a belief that man was still capable of humanity. In her diary, she stated, “In spite of everything, I still believe people are really good at heart.” How is it possible for someone who endured what she endured to still have kindness, optimism, and hope?
Etta Shattuck took cover in a haystack and prayed that God was coming to save her is a final example of willpower. Etta was a very religious nineteen years old teacher who taught in Holt County. Hours before the storm hit, she went out that morning to get her orders signed so she could get her twenty-five dollars. Soon the storm came like a desease and she was lost and confused as she struggled to find her way back home. She walked for miles and miles as the chill wind slowly wore she out. Since she was a very religious woman, all she did was prayed and asked god to save her. Sooner or later, God led her into a pile of haystack. She used the last ounce of strength she had and managed to dig a shallow hole for herself. “By the time she reached
Well so did Kira Salak in “The Cruelest Journey”. In this non-fiction story, Kira sets off on a journey to embark new life experiences, and to reach her goal of sailing down the Niger River to Timbuktu. During her journey, Kira learns what it means to persevere on and to have faith in yourself especially when others do not. This piece of evidence proves that she learned perseverance and how to continue going through hard obstacles in dilemmas, In “The Cruelest Journey” by Kira Salak states, “The storms erupts into a new overture. Torrential rains. Waves higher than my kayak, trying to capsize me. But my boat is self-bailing and I stay afloat (Salak, 424) .” This quote shows when obstacles tries to pressure Salak into slowing down or stopping her journey. Two things motivated Salak into going on this journey: doubt and wanting to experience new things, before Salak set off to this journey her guide Modibo says, “No man has ever completed such a trip, though few has tried. This morning he took me aside and told me he thinks I’m crazy…(Salak,422).” This certain quote help motivate Salak because so many people doubted that she would not make the trip successfully. Salak stated, “If a journey does not have anything to teach you about yourself, then what kind of journey is it?” Not only does this quote proves that Salak wants to experience new things in life but wants to know what it might teach her. Salak goes on this journey to learn and experience, during this journey she learns to have faith in herself and to preserve on through hard
In the book, A Long Walk to Water, by Linda Sue Park, Salva shows that success is achieved through constant courage. Some people think that success is achieved through patience, but Salva shows success is achieved through courage and bravery. Salva is nervous about the gun shooting going on around the school, but he was brave enough to go run out of the bushes. “Salva saw all this with one glance.
Anne Frank was a Jewish girl who went into hiding during the Holocaust because the Jews were being sent to concentration camps. When Anne went into hiding she took her diary with her and in it she recorded her story. One line in her diary that stood out was the quote, “Despite everything, I believe that people are really good at heart.” On this issue I agree with Anne. That despite whatever evils a person may have committed, they are good at heart.
When is stubbornness a good thing? In the story of Ruth, the qualities of diligence, care, and stubbornness are exhibited. Because Ruth’s husband dies, her mother in law Naomi decides to go back to her homeland and start a new life there. Ruth insists on accompanying her, even though Naomi wants her to stay in her old home. When they arrive in Bethlehem, Ruth immediately goes to work gathering left over wheat in fields. Every night, she comes home to care for Naomi and bake bread with the grain she has gathered. Reuven from Chiam Potok’s The Chosen also exemplifies these qualities. His diligence, stubbornness, and care are clearly shown in his personality.
In the short story A Worn Path by Eudora Welty the reader can interpret the message that we need to shrug of trials and kept pushing forward. We all travel hypothetical paths to get places in life. On these “paths” there are thing in your way trying to stop you, trying to get you to turn around. We need to persevere though and keep on plowing down that path until we reach our end goal whatever that may be. For some odd reason there are going to be people who would rather not see you succeed and will try to prevent you from doing such things. In the Story A Worn Path the main character Phoenix had to endure many trial that most old lady’s would give up and turn around. In the story she was walking on the trail then “Over she went in the ditch, like a little puff of milkweed”.(852) This old feeble lady who was most likely in quite a bit of pain after this fall, crawled out of that ditch and continued her trek. She is not concerned about her own health, only that of her Grandsons. This extremely heroic of her. Her name Phoenix which means resilience is very fitting for such a tough old lady. In the article “The evolution the classroom” by Elizabeth
In general I think never giving up is quote that consistently came to my mind while reading A Long Way Gone. Throughout the story Ishmael was a strong young man that never gave up. Even after his village had been attacked with his family in it, he still believed that he could find shelter and that his family could still be living. Even after he knew his family died he still had the bravery to go on with his journey to safety. S a solider he killed soldiers to get revenge and to save himself and others. Later on the lieutenant assigned Ishamel and a few others to a center where they could go back to school. They didn’t know where they were going or how life without being a solider would be. I thought this quote was significant because though
We only have little excerpts of what she’s like, but Anne Frank had a very distinct view on the world. That’s what made her so different. Out of these 3 great inspirations, Anne showed the most stamina compared to all of them.
For instance when Rainsford had to keep running and setting up traps to escape “The General” “Rainsford took his knife from its sheath and began to work with all his energy. The job was finished at last, and he threw himself down behind a fallen log a hundred feet away. He did not have to wait long. The cat was coming again to play with the mouse.”. Another example of persistence being needed to survive is during the movie “Cast Away” the main character {Tom Hanks aka Chuck Noland} wanted to make a fire but had many failed attempts so he kept trying and trying until he finally got a fire.
It can also be not giving up before things manifest. Based on this short scene, it appears that the farmer in the koan will maintain his “wait and see” attitude. It appears to have served him well and he obviously understands that obsessing over what can’t be controlled is frivolous. Of course, at the end his calm
In 1929 on June 12th a girl named Anneliese Marie Frank to Otto and Edith Frank who were Jews. During this time the world was still recovering from World War 1, but in the future, we would be brought back into that terrible time only to face another tragedy. Nearly 4 years after Anne was born, the Nazi Party began to effect Germany in which was the place Anne lived at the time, however she moved to Amsterdam in 1944 along with her family. As this took place what was Anne Frank personality like and did it change throughout the period when she was confined to her family's hiding location in 1942?
I agree with Tagore’s metaphor because I believe that you can’t just expect for everything to happen when you aren’t doing anything and if you want to succeed at something you need to work for it. For example, you can't look at Mount Everest and expect to be able to climb the mountain without being physically prepared. Nothing will ever happen if you just
