Annotated Bibliography The video is like a propaganda filmed by a non-profit organization discussing about CCHR (Citizens Commission on Human Rights). The Psychiatrists used their trusts from people to make false diagnosis in order to get more money from the patients, labeling everyone with illness and drug people that may danger their health. The origination interviewed a couple of well-known psychiatrists, even though by participating in this video may question their credibility. The video provides a lot of big numbers, but some facts are not credible at all and they didn’t tell us where the information is from. The video is somehow bias by only showing patients and patients’ families with tears and telling people how much they have suffered
Humans who are being over diagnosed with disorders, causes the spending of too much money on drugs and medication that could be harmful and is not needed for them to take. The objective of this book is to let people become aware of what is going on around the world. The audience that this book aims towards is the public. The main objective of Dr. Frances is to alert the public, health care professionals and clinicians about the misinformed diagnosis of people and the misdirected treatment and medications that are prescribed to people who are “normal.” Everyday pains and suffering are being diagnosed as mental illnesses and disorders. Psychiatry has specified people with false labels. The first of many arguments is that people are very worried that when a new disorder is brought up, that they have this disorder or illness. Another argument in this book is the misdiagnosis between mental disorder and normality. Many people who experience completely normal grief could be mislabeled as having a psychiatric problem. The next argument is to separate the people who have diseases from normality. Allen Frances blames the internet and social networking for the over diagnosis of mental disorder. This book is also about the high percentage of people who are now diagnosed with a mental illness,
In the film, the mental health professionals acknowledged this irony, however they misdiagnosed three of the five participants with a mental illness. I valued the mental health professional’s credentials and felt their status would lead to a high percentage of proper diagnoses. The result of the professionals mislabeling two of the ten participants with a history of mental illness, made me aware that a certain amount of experience, education, or status does not prevent
In the video Bellevue: Inside Out there were many patients that had similar diagnoses but very different symptoms. They all responded differently to their medications and acted differently. The most common diagnosis was Bipolar disorder and Schizophrenia. Many of the patients were a danger to themselves and others. The video was created to help the knowledge of Abnormal Psychology and help students understand what goes on in a psychiatric ward. Many people do believe that it was wrong for the APA to make a video about these people when they weren’t in their right minds from the heavy use of medication. The patients may not have been in the right mind but the video still
Imagine for a moment what it would be like if the entire population of Sonoma County, California was killed, and twenty years later not many people knew a great deal about it. When over 500,000 people, primarily Tutsis, were killed in the Rwandan genocide in 1994, it was a great tragedy. However, no one rushed to the country’s aid. Now it is vital that the horrors of the instance that violated the human rights of so many, is not forgotten. Human rights are the universal actions and objects that all people are entitled to because they are human. Human rights have been violated in numerous ways over time, typically as a result of a person in power having their own best interests in mind rather than the peoples´. Various groups, such as Amnesty
During my psychiatric clinical rotation at Carney Hospital I had the opportunity to help run group therapy’s where I was able to understand some of the patients better. During this time I was also able to learn more about my patient F.S. The patient is a fifty-two-year-old divorced Chinese woman with a lengthy history of bipolar disorder and a persistent associative history of schizophrenia and attempts at suicide. The patient has one daughter that is 24 years old who noticed F.S. was throwing her pills down the toilet and hiding them in her pockets so she didn’t have to take them. . During her admission, the patient displayed increased levels of incredible energy and mood activities, an approach that was thought to have been instigated by the worsening of her health condition.
The current Canadian Human Rights Act was issued in 1977 to ensure equal opportunities for Canadian employees in the working environment. The main goal is to stop discriminatory practices. According to the Canadian Human Rights Act (1977) itself, these practices can be “based on race, national or ethnic origin, color, religion, age, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, family status, disability or conviction for an offence for which a pardon has been granted or in respect of which a record suspension has been ordered”. Since its issuance date, many discriminatory practices could be discussed publicly and in case of disagreements aligned by the court. Although, still today discriminatory practices take part in business life in small and big forms and the problem might never be fully solved. Therefore, this essay discusses the function of the Act, its benefits and consequences for Canadian employees and employers and gives examples from past legal cases. According to the Ontario Human Rights Commission, social condition is defined as the prohibited ground of discrimination and harassment in human rights legislation which include sex, age, and place of origin (" Ontario Human Rights Commission," n.d.). This means the way a society deals with providing its community with the necessary resources such as jobs, diversity, healthcare, food, education and security. This is done by providing equality and is considered the social conditions that impact a community positively or negatively over time. Thus social conditions affects the quality of life on every level in our community, as individuals, institutionally and politically.
All people are entitled to various basic rights which should not be desecrated under any situation. Some of these rights include political rights, civil liberties and most importantly the right to physical safety and life. From the past, education has always been seen as a crucial aspect of our lives. In 1968, Durkheim stated that ‘society can survive only if there exists among its members a sufficient degree of homogeneity; education perpetuates and reinforces this homogeneity by fixing in the child, from the beginning, the essential similarities that collective life demands.’ Education has become even more indispensable as more instruments start to recognise the right to education. For instance, Article 2 of the First Protocol (A2P1) of the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) and Article 28(1) of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. This essay will assess the effect of the Human Rights Act 1998 (HRA 1998) in protecting the right to education in England. It is noted that the HRA 1998 provide a relatively limited protection as compared to the rest of the instruments. But looking in light of the proposed reform on HRA 1998, the current protection provided by the HRA 1998 has undeniably secured certain protections toward the children’s educational rights. Firstly, this essay looks into the scope of protections that are provided by the HRA 1998. Secondly, the effectiveness of A2P1. Thirdly, the influence of other conventions with regards to the right to education. Lastly, the essay will conclude by looking at the future reform of the HRA 1998.
Issue 1. After recognizing the seriousness and significance of Biff’s plea for help, it can be determined that human rights violations occurred in the case of Biff and the rest of the elves at the factory in the North Pole. In his letter, Biff describes being forced into labor, receiving little pay, and being confined to the factory each day. The conditions described by Biff do not reflect standard or acceptable labor practices, and it is evident that Santa Claus’s factory did not follow peremptory norms or the conditions presented in certain human rights conventions that the North Pole is a party to.
Such policy is not legitimate. Citizens should be allowed to freely move and migrant. Their natural rights should always surpass citizen responsibility. However, when their natural rights and citizen responsibility do not contradict with each other, citizens should obey their citizen responsibilities. Citizenship means that the citizen of this country has the nationality of this country and has the rights and the obligations in accordance to the constitution and laws of the state. Citizens should have the rights to vote for the candidate in the election and participate in the politics. Citizens are equal under the laws. Citizens should have the freedom for the speech and the religion. Citizens also have the rights to have the basic education, start the business and keep the possession if the possession is achieved by legal process. When citizens go to another country, they are under the protection of their mother country. At the same time, citizens have the duties to respect the constitution and the laws of the state. Citizens also have the duties to protect the public goods and pay taxes. In order to close the gap between the rich and the poor, it is necessary for governments to enforce the hierarchy of tax laws and it is duty for citizens to pay such taxes. However, when the society climbs its ladder to a status that is mostly equal, citizens will have less and less responsibility to countries and the taxation should be reduced dramatically. Instead, citizens will focus
