On Average, 31 Americans are murdered with guns every day and 151 are treated for a gun assault in an emergency room (About Gun Control). Every day on average, 55 people kill themselves with a firearm, and 46 people are shot or killed in an accident with a gun (About Gun Control). Guns and their purpose is simple, they were made to kill. There are those who exercise their rights to bear arms and then there are those who I agree with that wish to regulate who and how many guns a person can have. Many fatal gun accidents have occurred because of a lack of enforcement of gun regulation. Certain gun regulation like background checks should be issued to gun buyers to prevent future gun casualties from being made, including private gun shows.

Way too many guns are available and that a form of strict regulation is required. Guns are out of control and out running the streets. Guns are easily sold, bought and even shipped outside of the country. This idea that one day the government will turn its back on its people is absurd. This in my opinion is an unreasonable defense for gun rights. People who sell drugs do not think of the consequences. When dealers sell a gun they only care about the money. What a buyer does with their new gun does not concern the dealer at all. Aside from not caring, police officers shooting naturally increases with the presence of more guns. In recent years a number a number of massacres have occurred. “ Where you have the most armed citizens in America, you have the lowest violent crime rate. Where you have the worst gun control, you have the highest crime rate.”- Ted Nugent, National Rifle Association board member ( Feyerick). In just five years this country has seen an increase in mass shootings. Many times by the hands of people who in the first place should have never had access to a gun. Children have fallen victim to gun violence and that needs to stop. Guns will never go away but we as a society have an obligation, and as a society, must protect each other from
Gun violence kills 33,000 Americans and injures over 80,000 people per year. It is ridiculous how much damage guns have brought to not only us, but the world itself. From Columbine, to Sandy Hook, to the movie theatre to the Oregon Community College shooting, it has just been ridiculous. This is all because we in America believe it is okay for people to carry guns and for them to be used if “needed”. If they were always banned to begin with, we would never have had this problem. The private ownership of handguns should be banned in the United States. Handguns have been proved to be dangerous to society in recent events, they are the deadliest weapon in America, and lastly, guns cost Americans hundreds of extra dollars that could be avoided if they were banned.
Due to recent mass shootings in the U.S. many Americans fear for their safety. Many Americans fear to go out to movie theaters, restaurants, and even their children 's schools. In the article "Will Sikh temple shooting spark U.S. conversation on gun control", Peter Greier claims "Americans are deeply split about the prospect of new gun laws, and tragic events such as recent mass killings do not change voter opinions." Gun control laws should be any more strict because it would be violating the Second Amendment and the right to bare arms to protect yourself against criminals.
Gun control is a very controversial topic that has has a huge impact on the United States of America. One side believes that if guns were taken away as a whole, the country would see significantly less gun related crimes and death, while the other opposing side thinks that taking away guns is not only against the Second Amendment but would lead to an increase in crime and death because the government would take guns away from people who are legally registered to own and conceal guns. The ongoing debate will continue until the foreseeable future but their are plenty of reasons why more gun laws should be made. Taking away guns is not the answer, learning how to deal with gun violence is the key.
Gun control should not exist at all in the United States. Mass shootings have almost become seen as normal event in the United States. What people do not understand is that gun control is not the answer; there are countries with little to no control that have fewer shootings. According to The Washington Post,Finland is ranked number 4 in countries with the most guns despite that they only had 24 homicides by firearm (“Gun homicides and ownership by countries” n.pag.) . In the article Did Gun Control Work In Australia “it is shown that gun control has reduced the problems but it still has not completely got rid of all firearm deaths”(Matthews n.pag.). The number of murders, homicides, or suicides do not go up due to people just owning more guns. Clayton Perry, a staff writer at the University of Maine, even points out “Stricter gun laws were in place during the Assault Weapons Ban between 1994 and 2004, but that didn't stop the shooters at Columbine in 1999 ”(Perry n. pag.). In Iceland, thirty out of a hundred people own a gun and they have zero homicides caused by guns a year(“Gun Homicides and ownership by country” n. pag.). In this day and age, everything is unpredictable, guns are a form of protection for everyone and there should not be restrictions on protection. The U.S. Department of Justice released a data brief that states, “ On average in 1987-92 about 83,000 crime victims per year used a firearm to defend themselves or their property”(Rand BJS Statistician n. pag.). The National Sheriffs Association released that the average police response time is at eighteen minutes while the average school shooting only last twelve minutes (“Embracing Technology To Decrease Response Time” n. pag.). Gun control should not exist because other countries do fine without it , high gun ownership has no link with increasing death rates , and guns are not harmful when instructions are followed.
Gun control has been a long debate to determine if it’s better to have stricter access to firearms. America is one of the few countries that has gun rights embedded in their constitution. But what makes the US exceptional is that it has the right to keep and bear arms, other countries do not provide the right to have access to them, but rather, the government is allowed to regulate its use. The right to bear arms has also been the cause of growing violence and crime, at least according to anti-gun lobbyists. Citizens should be aware the dangers and harm that guns present to society. Controlling the sale of firearms can greatly decrease the number of violent crimes.
Too many Americans die due to firearms. “New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof this past summer wrote an impassioned call for gun control that included a recounting of horrific gun-related statistics. Since 1968, he noted, more people have died from guns in the U.S. than on the battlefields of all the wars in American history combined” (“Technology” -Gralla 6). This country is supposed to
America has the highest amount of gun related deaths each year in the world. “In Germany 381, in France 255, in Canada 165 in the United Kingdom 68, in Australia 65, in Japan 39 and in the United States, 11,127” (Moore Michael, 51:15-51:48). Since the United States has the highest number of deaths, it is important to have gun-control laws that restrict people from owning dangerous firearms like machine guns. Gun-control laws should support both sides of the debate. Of course, both sides will not be completely happy with the laws created, but America should have a balance. In 2008, a poll was taken stating: “Adult poll respondents’ views on the meaning of the Second Amendment; An individual’s right to bear arms: Republican 51% and Democrats 41%” (The History of the Right to Bear Arms). Today, the United States is more divided on gun-control than it has ever been. The Second Amendment states: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed”(Milestones in Federal Gun Control Legislation). Unless the Second Amendment is changed, we cannot take the right from others to own guns. However, the government should regulate the types of gun Americans can own and who can own a gun because times have changed and American’s mental health system is broken.
More than 30 people are shot and murdered each day. Gun Control is becoming a huge problem in the U.S.. Numerous people have died due to terrorist and criminals who have guns. The rise of gun casualties has created a debate on whether or not you are allowed to own a gun. The amount of restrictions on owning a gun has recently made it hard to get a gun. If no one is able to have a gun, then people will not be able to protect themselves. There needs to be a limit on the amount of gun laws, however there needs to be stricter background checks so that criminals can not get guns easily.
Gun Control are laws that are put in place to regulate and promote gun safety. Isn't that just plain common sense? "But we are the only advanced country on Earth that sees this kind of mass violence erupt with this kind of frequency."(Obama) Gun Violence is a problem that sadly has been embedded into our culture. But why? Guns have been part of culture since our arrival to the New World. Guns played a huge part in search for our independence as the Revolutionary war started with the first shots fired in Boston, MA. But, as time progressed guns began to do more harm than good. Gun violence is increasing as 89 people are victims of gun violence every day. But as soon as the horrible phantom is happening, groups such as the National Rifle Association
Malcolm X once said, “Sometimes you have to pick the gun up to put the gun down” (Malcolm X: "The Ballot). However, the news rarely accounts for when a gun has saved someone from potential danger. Every day, gun murders are broadcasted and dramatized on the news. Reports put emphasis on the guns, effectively making firearms look accountable for these evil acts. Indeed, devastation and destruction are what catch the public’s attention and get news channels high ratings. These broadcasts consequently convince the general population that controlling and even banning guns is going to stop the existence of violence. The United States does have the highest gun ownership rate in the world by a significant amount. On the contrary, the United States
Guns are a big topic in our society today with all the violence, debates, and regulations that are happening. It is a big topic in the presidential debate concerning the second amendment listed in the constitution. In “Ready..Aim..Fire” the author, Alan Gottlieb, brings up many good points concerning the violence, the stance being taken, and proving the guns are not the problem in all the violence. Being a girl who was raised up shooting a gun and being the daughter of a man who uses guns to hunt with, the idea of having more gun regulations is ridiculous. Guns should not have more regulations. They should not suffer due to the people that are reckless with them.
Many people are trained to have a gun or get a licenced to have a gun. Guns are legally for the right reasons. They are put in use for the military,SWAT teams and police these people are well trained to put them in use when it needs to be done and help save lives. Yes there are lots of mixed feelings with gun control but there also is benefits such as the National Rifle Association, they believe everyone should be able to own guns and there should be little guidelines because of the benefits of guns. National Rifle Association believes guns help lower crime rates and provide a means of safety to many Americans, they are actually contributing to the statistics of death and injuries, therefore raising crime rates and proving unsafe for many Americans if not regulated properly.
“Guns are designed to kill. They have no other function” (Bowman and Newton). Today, there is a major debate whether or not guns should be legalized. Gun control is a firearm regulation which sets laws or policies that regulate the manufacture, sale, or possession of firearms. The Second Amendment was ratified in on December 15, 1791 that allowed people the right to bear arms, but many people disagree with that and to express their opinions, both sides protest. Guns have a long history in the United States. They were intentionally made for the advancement of military purposes. An example of what guns are used for currently would be for hunting or self-defense (“Gun Control”). Stricter gun control laws should be enacted like because they
There needs to be a change to the laws that we follow today and one of those laws is the gun control law. We need to have stricter gun control laws because it will prevent more people from being able to acquire a firearm. In Today’s generation, everyone seems to have a gun, whether they use it for protection or just to make stupid decisions. We have teenagers robbing people at gunpoint, kids bringing guns to schools because they want to show it off to their friends or
In the United States there are a lot of different views about guns and gun laws. As a hunter and outdoorsman, I own guns and use guns. As a gun owner, I believe there should be some laws and restrictions however not a ban. Some believe all guns are bad and the only solution to end gun violence is to ban all guns. However, people have to realize that most gun crimes are committed by stolen or illegal fire arms. If somehow I could change the way most view guns, and to help end the argument on the ban of firearms, it would be one less thing Americans have to argue about.
