Taking this class has taught me a lot about myself as a learner. At the beginning of this course I defined learning as how one takes in information in their surroundings and applies it to their life. While I do still believe that is a part of the learning process, I now know how to properly use my strong suits and weaknesses to get the best results from the information presented to me. With the information I have acquired throughout this course, I would also include applying critical thinking and reading skills to better decipher the information gained to my definition of learning. Knowing how to interpret the information given to you is a huge part of learning. I am a strong willed learner, I am able use all of my patterns on a use first basis with the exception of confluence. My LCI score for confluence is 20 which means I use it at an as needed level, while I prefer not to use it often I am able to use it effectively. I mainly use this pattern when I am working with customers and patients and do not want to come across as robotic and only giving the standard verbatim for their concerns. Technical reasoning is another pattern that is on the lower end of my LCI scores, I received a 26 for this pattern. There are times that I do enjoy learning how to do things on my own as in opposed to waiting for exact instructions. While working in my patient 's homes, I sometimes like to figure out how to set up their new equipment without regard to any instructions that may be right
Being in this class gave me insight on the way that I learn. I’ve had my share of jobs along with schooling and various other learning experiences. Some good, some bad but I can honestly say that I never noticed the pattern on how I learn. Now I know I learn more by being more of a hands on person. Also utilizing my thinking and problem solving skills has helped with my growth. I also found it important to use my reflective observation too. Mostly combining different learning styles have helped me in life to understand the way I learn and the benefits that could come if I use my strengths to further my ambitions.
In Conclusion, learning is something that you can grow from figuring out what strategies work for you whether is be from writing it down to seeing in the form picture and model. Learning is something where you do what is best for you and your difficulties and what can help you overcome your difficulties in any class that you have and once you find what works for you, you will be able to do your best and achieve what you
A. This chapter deals with the concept of how our countries private industrial interests are making money off creating fear in the public. He talks about how the media creates fear using national and international issues to create fear in us. He also talks about how our Government is a part of the media’s strategy to create fear in society. Also, that the church plays into it by responding to what is seen and reported in the news as a response to the times. - 82 words
I always read and follow all directions prior to starting any of my work. I tether my work because I have enough time to check the work at the end. My precision pattern is also in the use first level. I take pride in never waiting until the last minute to do my assignments. I tether my work in recognizing that it will not be perfect. I have realized that I think of something similar related to understand some assignments. I avoid using my technical reasoning by forging this pattern, I have learned to make the topic find a purpose in writing my discussions. I am one of those as needed confluence users. During the class readings, I would intensify my readings to stay on task. I honestly just went with the flow of what was being asked to
Beliefs, attitudes and values are three little words that have and make a massive impact on who we are as individuals, who we are as people, and even how the world is viewed by ourselves and others. A belief is something that individuals or groups think, such as believing in a god. Where a Value would be the living life in the ways a religion expects, this value will be made from the belief that the person or group has in their God. The attitude towards this would be the feelings, beliefs and behaviour tendencies towards this, for example praying, reading the holy book,
After reading " CLUES to Critical Thinking" in chapter 5, I disagree with the Supreme Court's decision to allow Law enforcements to strip search an arrested individual who had only committed a minor offense. The Fourth Amendment clearly states that, "The right of the people to be secure in their persons against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated. Unreasonable can be defined as not guided by or based on good sense, which in this case, strip searching an individual for a minor offense can be seen as unreasonable. The only time a cop should be able to strip search you is when the officer has a reasonable suspicion that you are either carrying contraband or an illegal weapon, that is what strip searches are for. It is not
After learning studying the technics from Unit 2 on improving critical thinking skills, I feel that I have devised a plan to help me through this process. The steps in the lesson that include using wasted time and asking specific questions, planning to handle one problem per day, and internalize intellectual standards and having clarity and understanding about devising a game plan has helped me put the changes into action. Keeping a journal and trying to practice intellectual strategies are all part of my plan to improve my thinking.
A crucial skill in critical thinking is learning to distinguish inference from assumption. An inference is an act of concluding that something is true or seems to be true. An assumption is an act of assuming something based on previous beliefs. Everyone has their own point of view, therefore, they have different assumptions about what the see. For example, if two people see an overweight person at the gym, one might infer, "There's a lazy person." The other might infer, "That person is taking control of their health." These inferences are based on different assumptions about the conditions under which overweight people end up in the gym; these assumptions are connected to the point of view about people that each has formed. The first person
Trigger warning: This may cause you to change your previously held beliefs! It 's a privilege to learn about racism instead of experiencing it your whole life. If you do not have to think about it, it’s a privilege. If you did not want to read this paper out of fear because of the trigger warning, many universities have started allowing students to do this with many of their assignments. Universities were created to help foster the freedom of the human mind, but many have started to focus attention to micro-aggressions and the use of trigger warnings, this is causing students to be unprepared for the post-college world because they view certain topics as taboo, hold on to their beliefs, and focus on punishment rather than education.
clients feelings. While my client was speaking, I used non-verbal words, such as I see, uh huh, and oh yea? I wanted to make sure my client could count on me to pay attention and trust I wasn’t just talking with her because it’s my job. I wanted her to feel that I really cared.
During week one, my initial definition of learning was listening to an instruction, studying and then rehearsing that information in my mind, or categorizing it in a way so I could remember most of what was taught in the course. The class has opened a new dimension for me in the learning process; from understanding how I process information to deciphering which learning processes I use in intentional learning or metacognition. Understanding my learning patterns form dynamic learning relationship is a key element to my view of how and why I process the learning experience, even relating it to every day life.
In my opinion I happen to partially agree the professor at Duke University with the fact that blog posts would be a more efficient way of getting the author's point across swiftly. Though I also happen to think that having term papers is a good way to properly assess the authors writing ability. Blog post help the individual easily give their opinion over the topic they are covering and quickly list the facts that back up their reasoning. Which is more direct than the term paper. When conducting a term paper there is a more thorough analysis of the author critical thinking and writing ability.
I have discovered some interesting things I have noticed in myself before taking this course. For example, my learning style I have noticed is the visual learning style.
What is the most important concept that you learned in this class? Write this for a reader who is unfamiliar with the concept.
According to (Critical literacy practices, 2011) “critical reading” is a type of literacy practice that is learning practice in which students analyze and critique language and power relationships within written texts. Many college freshmen are not prepared for critical reading, yet a lot of higher education organizations and levels do not require individual critical reading courses. Even though critical reading is an often-cited neutral topic in some different colleges structured reading courses. In many different colleges, at times, there is little to no research that exists that may also describe how composition instructors teach critical reading strategies. No matter the subject or the age of the reader. An overall reading goal for critical readers includes reading an article to comprehend information based on what was stated within the text. While readers read to gain understanding from the text, the readers also use additional information at times such as factual ideas, prior knowledge, and also context clues to understand the difficult text. There are many ways to become a “critical reader” which includes different types of reading strategies.
