The subject matter of universal health care is important because the current system of health care in America is economically and morally wrong. The United States spends more than double on health care and still millions are left without coverage. During the Progressive Era, AALL (American Association of Labor Legislation) proposed a bill which provided coverage to those making less than $1200 and would be provided services such as physicians, hospitals, and nurse which would be shared between workers, employers, and the state. This system was opposed by the AFL (American Federation of Labor) because it felt this movement would weaken unions. Furthermore, Bill Clinton proposed a system of universal health care which would provide health coverage
People getting taxed on their hard earned money may be going to people who need it or to those who do not. The Healthcare reform law is not a reasonable solution for people who cannot afford or do not have private health insurance.
One of the most demonized terms in American political discourse is 'socialism.' When various healthcare reform proposals are being discussed, it is common to condemn them as 'socialized medicine' if they call for greater government intervention to enable universal coverage of all Americans. However, socialized medicine refers to a very specific system of providing healthcare and virtually no American politician has dared to propose what would constitute a truly 'socialized' system of medicine. Additionally, many nations exist which provide universal coverage for all citizens without deploying a single-payer system. It is important to understand truly what socialized medicine 'is' and what it is not, as well as its benefits and detriments, when debating healthcare policy in America.
“The massive legislation will help 32 million Americans get health insurance coverage and bans insurers from denying coverage to those with preexisting illnesses.” (Clemmitt) With the health care reform, it covers many things that Americans are struggling to receive such as acceptance because of illness and kicking out anyone off going young adults from parents plans. Obamacare is a benefit for those in need and have been let go cause of illness or who just in need but will not get accepted for reasons.
It was interesting that Medicaid is different in all states and they all use different criteria to determine eligibility. I agree that all states should expand their coverage based on the Affordable Care Act and it should not be optional but mandatory. It was also interesting to learn that Medicaid not Medicare is the primary payer of long –term services or the patient if they are not eligible for Medicaid. I believe Medicaid is needed and it should be given to the less advantaged individuals because everyone should have access to health care no matter what.
Medicare, which was first enacted by Congress in 1965, is a popular, yet failing, program because of a rapidly increasing population of retirees and their increasing costs; despite program’s flaws, Medicare is difficult to change because of the political influence of the elderly, who approve of the benefits they receive from the program. Medicare provides health benefits to citizens who are eligible for social security benefits(Fiorina, Peterson, Johnson & Mayer 2009). The program is embraced by the public, but Medicare’s increasing cost makes it difficult to sustain. Due to its popularity, the program is also very difficult to change, but without limitations the program will continue to decline in the future.
Medicare and Medicaid has been providing huge benefits for senior citizens and low income families. The one question nobody seems to answer is how are we going to afford this type of insurance? Maya Rockeymoore argues in her article, “Groundless Fears about Medicaid and Medicare,” that we are able to afford this as long as we make good decisions. Rockeymoore claims that we need to keep Medicare and Medicaid or our country will fall apart.
For healthcare coverage to work a healthcare system needs to be in place. The biggest thing we need to take away from this is whether healthcare is a commodity or human right and that it’s affordable. The people want the healthcare to be reform, but reformed in a better direction than what the Affordable Health Care Act is presenting. The people don’t want Washington to decide what type of care they need; the decision should be left upon the people.
For the past several months, the news feeds have been full of stories on Obamacare, more accurately described as The Affordable Care Act. The Affordable Care Act is the largest mandated healthcare change in the United States since Medicare and Medicaid began in 1965 (Mayer, 2013). It was signed into Law in 2010 designed to give all Americans access to healthcare. Whether you are for or against The Affordable Care Act one thing is above dispute, it has caused a Nationwide uproar. Now that we are in a new Presidential era, steps are being taken to “Repeal and Replace” Obamacare.
The arguments for/against ObamaCare health care are extensive. This giant law has so many parts that the average American does not even know what is really in this bill. The main supporters argue the bill is constitutional. They believe it is constitutional on three different "powers" of congress under commerce/interstate activity, the necessary and proper clause and the taxing and general welfare clause.

The major purpose of this work is to completely discuss about the Medicare Part D which will set an influence on the different interest groups and all the entities of government which have been set under the policy changing process. There has been a complete set environment which involved and shape the policy to make efforts as to how all the groups of the stakeholders are influences with the Medical Part D. All the legislation and the specific strategies are made in correspondence to the politics. (Powell et al., 2015). The Medicare Part D is also said to be Medicare prescription drug benefit which directs to setting the United States Federal government programs to work on the subsidizing costs of all the drugs of prescription which insure premiums for the Medicare in US. There has been a great benefit from the drugs which provides an entire coverage to all the disables and the elderly people who could not have the ability to manage it.
The right to health care is tantamount to socialism and therefore should be left as the responsibility of an individual and not a function of the government to secure a person’s health care. Thus government’s provision of healthcare could reduce the availability and quality of healthcare, resulting to enormous government deficits and debts. This paper is going to explore the reasons why the government should not provide free health care to its citizens.
“Medicare-for-all” is piece of legislation proposed by Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders that advocates for a single-payer healthcare system and universal coverage for all in the United States (Keith & Jost, 2017). The bill details a national health insurance plan, funded by a government trust, that would cover all services from hospital stays to primary care visits, thus eliminating high out-of-pocket costs, copayments, and deductibles. Comprehensive coverage under Medicare-for-all would also include treatment for substance abuse, mental health counseling and resources, reproductive and maternity services, and even abortion (Keith & Jost, 2017).
