For years teachers and district administrators have been thinking of removing school sports. According to parents in America, they prefer their kids to get better grades rather than to focus on sports. Therefore, schools should not have after class sports because students will be tired for school the next day, the district could save more money and time, and they could focus on academics rather than athletic ability.

Students who play after school sports have an increased chance to be inattentive and tired the next day. In Amanda Ripley's article she states that students who play sports usually have lower grades due to being tired after the day of sports that they have had (11). Kids get worse grades just for a sport that takes up energy and uses it for something else that is not needed (Ripley 11). Sports are a distraction to everyday schooling and should not have a place in our schools. School sports are an easy outlet to bad grades and terrible attention skills. …show more content…

To find how much money schools spend on school sports Amanda Ripley interviewed Superintendent Ernest Singleton of the Premont Independent School District who “Made a bold decision:He canceled sports. All of them. By suspending sports, he realized,the district could save $150,000 in one year.” (10). Ripley also states how much money it is to install new supplies. “New bleachers can cost half a million dollars. Maintaining a grass field can cost more than $20,000 a year.” (10). My opinion is that school systems should take sports out of schools because they cost too much to maintain.
