Every Sunday during football season, there is one place I will always be, no matter what. As I drive down Lake Cook Road, I feel a sudden excitement. Sundays are my favorite day of the week because I get to not only spend time with my grandparents, but also watch our favorite Chicago sports team play for three hours. I have watched every single Bears game with my grandparents since I was eight. We have been through it all, from Rex Grossman as our quarterback to Marc Trestman as our head coach. However, recently, I have noticed something about our conversations during the games. We always debate whether the Bears should keep Jay Cutler next season. He has always proven to be turnover-prone, but has been clutch throughout the season. The Chicago Bears should keep Jay Cutler next season because he has proven to be one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL. …show more content…
Through his first three seasons as the Quarterback for the Chicago Bears, he averaged a horrible 1.29 TD/Int ratio. Yet, the Bears decided to make him the highest paid Quarterback at the time. “It's a big chunk of money to commit to an oft-criticized player like Cutler” (SbNation). Mike Sando, a reporter for ESPN Chicago ranked Cutler’s contract last in the NFL. Said Sando, “Coaches brought in to help Cutler keep getting fired. Meanwhile, Cutler keeps cashing fat checks. Although the true guarantees in his deal were reasonable on paper, the Bears became accountable for another $25 million after Cutler remained on the roster long enough for injury-only guarantees to become fully guaranteed” (Forbes). Cutler’s criticism not only came with his poor play, but with his contract he was awarded
One thing certain about Chicago Bears starting quarterback Jay Cutler is his reputation for getting hurt from time to time. While some fans will tell you Cutler’s injuries are a result of his passion and love for the game which lead to him going all out and trying to do too much, others will tell you he will miss 2 weeks over a hang nail. Regardless of the reason, his past injuries have put the Bears through some difficult times due to a lack of a reliable back up.
Green Bay’s Aaron Rodgers is better than the Chicago’s Jay Cutler. Rodgers is one of the best quarterbacks in the league; Cutler is the opposite. The Green Bay quarterback has a superior passing game to Cutler’s. Rodgers has the best touchdown to interception ratio in NFL history. There is hardly a game I’ve seen in which Cutler hasn’t thrown an interception.
The Bears suck this year literally, they just blow. Like I’m a really big bears fan and i'm not even watching them anymore because they can't even win a damn game and its really sad. Lets hope they can get the game together next year and get better draft picks that might just help them out. What also that can help them win a damn game is a better defense, just watching them makes me want to cringe and turn the TV off. Now if you thought this offense was underwhelming last season (21st overall), wait until you watch them take the field without do-it-all running back Matt Forte, now a Jet, and tight end Martellus Bennett, who got traded (for virtually nothing) to the Patriots. THE PATRIOTS. Jesus. The Bears may as well have sprung Aaron Hernandez
Throughout these genres, my main argument has been to get rid of fighting in professional hockey. Many will say that I am wrong, and that the game would not be the same without fights, that the enforcer is a crucial role in the game. My counter-argument is simple: have someone who does not follow the sport try to name the two players pictured above. Just about every person will get the first one right: Wayne Gretzky. He’s the “you don’t miss a shot if you don’t take it” guy, and probably the only hockey player that everyone has heard of one time or another. The other? I am willing to bet no one gets that one. That player would be Tiger Williams, who played 14 seasons in the NHL, most notably for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Diehard fans
Baseball in Chicago was very big it grew a lot in Chicago back then in the 1800’s.
The 2016 season was a disappointment for the Chicago Bears. They finished with a record of 3-13, Quarterback Jay Cutler and wide receiver Kevin White were both dealing with injuries, wide receiver Alshon Jeffery was suspended for four games due to PEDs, and the defense struggled.
Mortensen’s report quoted former New York Giants general manager Ernie Accorsi: “You don’t get rid of quarterbacks when get one who has signs of greatness. You fix the defense so he’s not playing from behind all the time and you protect him with your offensive line.”
Outside of that tremendous year, Gruden’s tenure was struck with mediocrity among high expectations with a Super Bowl winning coach. Consider this, for the next 6 season his team’s
The National Football League (NFL) has been under scrutiny because the NFL had downplayed the effects of head trauma and its links to CTE. Only in recent years has the NFL gave into public demand to do something about the concussion issue. However, the NFL could still do more to help its players. The article by Rodney Smith explores the benefits and drawbacks of litigation, administrative action, legislative action, and associational action by the NFL in dealing with these issues.
“The fact that I can still count and put a sentence together I feel fortunate.” –Former NHL player Mike MIlbury on fighting. The topic that I am arguing on is fighting in the NHL. Fighting in the NHL should be banned because it is banned in all other leagues, fighting can cause serious injuries, and it takes spots away from skilled forwards. Fighting in the NHL should be banned for the problems that it causes and I am willing to tell you.
The Bears organization spent a lot to get him, but failed to surround him with talent to be the franchise quarterback they wanted him to be. For example, as a quarterback he needs decent to good protection from his offensive line. According to ProFootballFocus, he’s had a mediocre to terrible pass blocking offensive line. “Since he came to the Bears in 2009, his offensive line has a PFF score of -315.9. Compare those numbers to what his main divisional rival, Aaron Rodgers, has experienced (+93.7 PFF pass block grade) during the same time-frame, and you can see how short-handed Cutler has been from the get-go” (ProFootballFocus). Also, he didn’t have what the football world would call a #1 receiver, until they
“Perfection is not attainable, but if we chase perfection we can catch excellence” (Vince Lombardi). Collegiate athletes have the best chance of success in college, because they constantly get pressure from the coaches to get good grades, won’t have any debt after college because they are on full scholarship and playing sports helps builds social network.
Players for Northwestern University are saying they need to be paid to play ball, this has created a spark across the country. Several major division one schools have brought this to the committee for the NCAA. This is ridiculous, college athletes get so many benefits from, getting to travel the country for free, and a top of the line education for free, and you get so many free clothing items.
Almost all student athletes get butterflies before that Friday night football game, before the fans get to watch them compete, or even the to get the ability to practice. Many argue that high school sports are a distraction in the classroom or even cause career ending injuries. There are many different scenarios that prove that high school sports do the exact opposite of those. When it comes to high school sports, it keeps students fit, boosts a student’s academic performance, and enhances a student’s self-esteem. High school sports are very beneficial and for anyone who is looking to take on a new challenge to take on.
The game of football is being attacked. We see it every day in the headlines and on the news. The medical concerns are obvious. The game has taken more than its share of criticism. Even President Barack Obama said that if he had boys he wouldn’t let them play football. LeBron James publicly said no football in his house. So the question is asked all the time, Why would anyone want to play football? And why would anyone let their kids play? Here’s my answer. I believe there’s practically no other place where a boy is held to a higher standard then football. Football is hard, it’s tough, it demands discipline, it teaches obedience, it builds character. Football is a metaphor for life.
