David Byrne, a Scottish musician and songwriter, once said “The true face of smoking is disease, death and horror- not the glamour and sophistication the pushers in the tobacco industry try to portray.” Before 1964 when it became public that smoking is harmful and unhealthy, everybody smoked; including children under the age of twelve. Cigarettes have gotten restrictions on their sales, but a certain cigarette has not. These “modified” cigarettes are called e-cigarettes. They are electronically powered and vaporize liquid nicotine. Many people think that e-cigarettes differentiate from original tobacco cigarettes in numerous ways which is why these electronic devices are sold to the public without any restrictions. According to my research …show more content…
The 460 brands of e-cigarettes come in over 7,000 flavors. Critics say it is an attempt to get children to start smoking. The children of today will be the creators of the future. Unfortunately, studies prove that cigarettes, as well as e-cigarettes, shorten lives. Who would be in charge of our economy if children decided to start smoking now and risk their lives? Basically, if every child decided to smoke e-cigarettes there may not be a future. Due to the fact that e-cigarettes do not have restrictions on their sales, children and adolescents are allowed to purchase these devices without a drivers license or state ID. A “Huffington Post” article states that one woman was admitted to the hospital with cardiac problems when her e-cigarette broke while she was in bed. In addition to e-cigarettes harming us, these nicotine filled devices harm the environment. Due to the lack of proper instructions on how to dispose these electronic cigarettes, smokers discard them incorrectly. E-cigs break when disposed incorrectly, which causes the nicotine to leak. This poisonous substance harms the area and animals around it. Think about how nicotine harms our bodies just by smoking it. What would happen if a living organism consumed
E-cigarettes were originally known as electronic nicotine delivery system. They are now known as vapes, e-hookah, and e-cigs. E-cigarettes work by heating nicotine and other chemicals to make vape. E-cigarettes are new to this society. In the article What We Know about E-Cigarettes,” Most people try and use to stop smoking cigarettes” (paragraph 5). In the same article, it says, “the FDA is working hard to regulate e-cigarettes” (paragraph 3). E-cigarettes are becoming so popular teens are starting to smoke e-cigarettes. A lot teens are introduced to teen by peer pressure. Teenagers should be banned from e-cigarettes because it’s addictive, and it ruins your health, and it’s against the law.
Advertisements and media present inhaling e-cigarettes as being glamorous and a way to socialize as well as stating that vaping is family friendly.
John Doe is an 18-year-old resident, Colorado. He’s active in his community and volunteers through the local public library, he’s a genuinely nice guy, and he’s a smoker. A few months ago, John Doe decided that he wanted to minimize his health risks from smoking cigarettes, so he switched to a new alternative: an e-cigarette. Electronic cigarettes contain no tobacco, and vaporize a vegetable glycerol fluid that contains nicotine, mimicking the feeling of smoking a burn cigarette without the tar, dangerous gases, and unpleasant smell (Block). In most states, smokers can “vape” in public places with their e-cigarettes, receiving the nicotine of a burn cigarette without complaint from others. Heavy smokers find that they can use e-cigarettes to gradually decrease nicotine and many use it as a gateway to quit smoking. Yet in the absence of regulation, sale of e-cigarettes to minors is only prohibited in twelve states (Lopes), and this is a definite problem. Adolescents may see vaping as a cool new thing to do and become addicted to nicotine. The lack of regulation in the e-cigarette industry especially contributes to this, as companies create appealing advertisements displaying a variety of new flavors. Furthermore, without Food and Drug Administration (FDA) screening, e-cigarette ingredients are unregulated and this could lead to unsafe or downright harmful products.
In conclusion, more Americans need to be aware of the dangers of e-cigs including their addictive levels of nicotine, and harmful chemicals such as formaldehyde. Thedailybeast addressed the dangerous of e-cigs to not only the user, but other in this statement ,”Outside the risk of exposure to cancer-causing agents, e-cigarettes have been shown to prove dangerous to kids.” This shows that the dangers caused by e-cigs can indirectly harm others, and is posing as a threat to the user's health and can act as a bad influence toward the youth. This is why americans need to relook at how safe e-cigarettes
In the past decade e-cigarettes industry has been growing quite rapidly. E-cigarettes were first created as a better alternative to the conventional tobacco cigarettes, pipes, and cigars. However, in todays society they have become a very popular commodity. Likewise, they are mostly used for mere pleasure and not what its original purpose was. Originally the sole purpose of e-cigarettes was to help wean their users off of the unhealthy drugs we all know as the conventional tobacco cigarettes (Dockrell, 1). But are they really the healthier alternative? Absolutely not. E-cigarettes are extremely unhealthy, used as a gate-way substitute, and also affect others who aren’t even directly using it!
People have been debating on if e-cigs should be regulated or not. Only 18 years old or older could by them if they were regulated but some people don’t want them to be regulated. They argue that it helps teens and adults quit smoking yet 16 million children can legally buy e-cigs. A toddler actually accidently drank liquid nicotine and died because it was poisonous and legal to the public. Not putting a regulation on e-cigs could lead to more young children being poisoned or they could even possibly die.
For as long as e-cigarettes have been around the market of cigarettes alike, the controversy of whether or not e-cigs should be regulated from advertisement has been alive almost as much as the light of electric cigarettes themselves. To add on to this debate myself, e-cigarettes are bad for the public and should therefore not be advertised on television, radio, or other forms of media devices. These advertisements can influence minors to try e-cigs, influence use of nicotine, and defies the purpose of regulations on cigarettes in general. E-cigarettes are bad for the health of an average human being, and with the advertisement of e-cigs, it influences the people to inject themselves with the many poisonous, harming chemicals in e-cigarettes
Schools around the world, including Freeburg Community High School, have had to install nicotine detectors to catch those who sneak in Vapes or Juuls, e-cigarettes, into school bathrooms and classrooms. “E-cigarettes are devices that heat a liquid into an aerosol that the user inhales. The liquid usually has nicotine and flavoring in it, and other additives. The nicotine in e-cigarettes and regular cigarettes is addictive. E-cigarettes are considered tobacco products because most of them contain nicotine, which comes from tobacco,” (Know the Risks: E-Cigarettes & Young People). E-cigarettes are just as harmful as regular cigarettes and should not be sold.
Many people smoke e-cigarettes instead of regular cigarettes because they think they are a safe alternative. There is less smoke and they taste good! So they must be ok, right? Well that’s not so true. The chemical diacetyl is found in 75% of e-cigarettes. This chemical is linked to respiratory disease. It’s also the chemical that is used to flavor the smoke from your e-cigarettes taste good. In some States teens as young as sixteen are able to buy e-cigs from gas station in my opinion i think it's illegal to let teens buy e-cigarettes they can get lung disease known as popcorn lung
These flammable cigarettes utilize water and vapor consolidated with Nicotine to re-make the high of tobacco. They are thought to be more beneficial in light of the fact that they do exclude the greater part of the additional poisons and chemicals that are in a typical cigarette. In spite of the fact that they may appear like a cleaner elective, they are not totally sound. It is trusted that any remote substance in the lungs, other than unadulterated oxygen, is viewed as unfortunate. The lungs were not made to deal with a tobacco smoke. There is nothing thought about what electronic cigarette vapor does to the lungs. These electronic gadgets are thought to be non-addictive, yet with the expansion of Nicotine to the vapor, these too can be similarly as addictive as an ordinary tobacco
As stated by Eleanor Roosevelt, “One 's philosophy is not best expressed in words; it is expressed in the choices one makes... and the choices we make are ultimately our responsibility.” Everybody has a myriad choices in life. Some choices are better than others, and some are the worst choices one could have possibly chosen. The choices of one may work in one’s favor, or one’s choices may work in contrariety of one’s goals altogether. Electronic cigarettes, also called e-cigarettes or e-cigs, are an alternative choice to smoking actual cigarettes. Whether e-cigarettes should be regulated is a controversial topic among the people of the world today. A few people withhold the beliefs that electronic cigarettes should not be regulated as regular cigarettes are. It is possible that they believe that the regulation will lead to the prohibition or cease of smoking wholly. However, speaking as a candor person, one may say that these people are blind to the potential harms that the lack of regulation could create and that the lack of regulation may actually be causing electronic cigarettes to work in opposition of the purpose they are mostly used for. E-cigarettes are proven to not to have the same detrimental effects as regular cigarettes, however they are potently harmful, with different and serious consequences. The regulations would not be banning electronic cigarettes; the regulations are working to protect the health and well-being of everyone.
The Los Angeles Times states: “Electronic Cigarettes are either a potent weapon in war against tobacco, or they are insidious menace that threatens to get kids hooked on nicotine and make smoking socially acceptable again” (Morin). E-cigarettes are now becoming more widespread, especially among young people. The electronic cigarette industry is growing rapidly in the United States due to the rising demand, which is stirring up opinions and research among the masses. While supporters argue that it is a safer and cheaper way of smoking and helpful for quality tobacco, opponents argue it 's harmful and addictive.
It all started from the Ancient Egypts using a hot stone to vape herbs. People would heat herbs on a very hot stone, then use the hot herbs to vape, which then lead to the first idea of the e cigarette, described as the smokeless non-tobacco cigarette. Then came nicotine, everyone's favorite drug. There were many different ideas going around on how to ingest nicotine, but the one everyone considers to be the least harmful may not be as harmless as it seems. This leads tobacco companies to introduce e cigarettes to the public, which lead to the modern vape. The electronic cigarette was designed by Hon Lik. He tried to get rid of cigarettes, but he also did not want any other new health concerns to come with the new invention. The first e cigarette in the US was very popular, and people did not think it was harmful. The e cigarette companies even made it customer friendly in order to promote sales. However, the it ended up having just as much nicotine as a regular cigarette. In today's society, e cigarettes are becoming a controversial issue. Many teenagers use them because they believe it is “cool”, which leads to use of nicotine, and ends up being worse than normal cigarettes. The nicotine is addictive to all ages, and every e cigarette contains it. Some of them contain more nicotine than others, but they all contain a portion of it. Overuse of nicotine can cause cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, or even birth defects. Therefore e cigarettes need to be banned
E-cigarettes have heating elements that are battery operated and hold cartridges of nicotine and other liquids and flavoring. They were produced to assist those who are trying to quit smoking or reduce the amount of nicotine that is actually inhaled in the body to make it a safer product for the consumer than actually smoking a cigarette. There is controversy on whether or not this product promotes a safer nicotine habit or stimulates someone to begin smoking habits. Most importantly, those who do not smoke at all are concerned whether or not the secondhand smoke emitted from these devices is harmful for those who do not wish to inhale nicotine products. There are states laws that
E-cigarette is believed to greatly reduce on the health effects associated with tobacco smoking. However, e-cigarette has been criticized as a leading cause of smoking among the youth due to its flavor as well as its novel appearance and campaigns. It is also believed to pose some health risks. Despite such drawbacks, e-cigarette has recently gained a lot of popularity and subsequent growth.
