“A successful marriage requires falling in love many times, always with the same person,” declares an anonymous soul… But how accurate is this statement? Statistics show 42 percent of marriages end in divorce. In fact, 25 percent of millennials will not even go through with this tradition of holy matrimony, yet being called a hopeless romantic in today’s world is more than common. Maybe the problem is today’s generation’s lack of commitment, or it could be the fact everyone in today's day and time wants to feel independent. However, have you ever really considered that marriage is a totally blurry concept? From the idea of being in love, to the concept change, to the fact that marriage has absolutely no solid foundation, I will reveal the vulnerability of marriage. People, especially those in older generations, argue that today’s world does not understand the value or idea of marriage. Maybe they are right, but ask them if they even understand it. They claim that millennials are stuck-up, selfish, and afraid of commitment. What they do not realize, is the fact that marriage does not only not make sense, it honestly is not the generation’s greatest priority. Marriage started out as a trade, “my daughter for shared land,” kind of thing. Now marriage is based on a human made concept.- The idea that a feeling can conquer all. Marriage is based on a fleeting emotion. Marriage is (or arguably “should be”) based on love nowadays.
