As a typical All American twelve year old girl, Mallory Grossman participated in gymnastics, cheerleading, and made jewelry by hand to help raise money for children with cancer. Mallory was known to be a good student and popular within her group of friends. On June 14, 2017, Mallory committed suicide. This was the day her mother would not get to hug her child anymore, the day her smile would no longer be seen, the day her classmates lost a friend. No one saw this coming, because Mallory seemed a cheerful, untroubled girl who had a bright future ahead of her. The only problem was the relentless bullying that came her way through the use of social media outlets such as snapchat or instagram. Some girls in her middle school used Snapchats features
Throughout the country many schools are turning to year-round schooling (Also known as YRS, or Balanced Schooling). This calls for more, but shorter, breaks during the year. This balanced schooling is swiftly gaining popularity, but is it really necessary? Yes, year-round schooling is very necessary for the developing child. To become involved in year-round schools means to stop the yearly learning loss, to get more information taught in a more spread-out and comfortable time period, and to become ahead in school.
THank you for your and Kent's support of Austin Kids First the past 2 election cycles. As you probably know there are 2 contested races for Austin ISD school board. Austin Kids First PAC has decided to endorse in only one of those 2 races, becuase the candidates in the other race didn't meet our minimum quality bar. In the at-large race we are strong supporters of Cindy Anderson. She has the experience, background knowledge and passion required to effectively serve on the board.
I believe the new school should district should be named based on where the school district is located. The schools colors and mascot should assosiate with the schools name and location. The school name is Richwoods High School. Their mascot is a dragon! Richwoods colors are navy blue and yellow.
Joseph is a redshirt senior who has appeared in 41 games for UConn, while registering 260 total tackles and 11.5 tackles for loss. Joseph is the leader of the defense and is responsible for lining of the linemen and linebackers. Joseph is active in run defense and has the ability to cover some tight ends and slower running backs. Joseph does not posses elite athleticism, which has turned into an essential trait for inside linebackers to succeed in the NFL today. Joseph plays sideline-to-sideline but does not have the speed to track down offensive players who breakthrough on the outside. Joseph will get a chance at the next level, but I believe there are stronger candidates for the 2018 Senior Bowl due to Joseph’s lack of athleticism.
The Kickapoo seventh-graders cleaned up along the roads to help keep our environment clean on Friday, 27th, 2018.
How would the population react if the schedule that structures many peoples’ entire year were to change? This change is a reality for a growing number of families across the country as a method of improving primary and secondary education through year-round school. Although many have come to accept or even embrace year-round school in an effort to help students retain more material, year-round school would actually disrupt the learning environment, be potentially detrimental for students and their family’s financial health, as well as that of the schools, and could take away from family and personal time.
“Without Common Core we (America) are not where we want or need to be.” The New York Times reported this in August, 2013. Currently, every state sets its own curriculum for its schools. The result is that the United States ranks “25th in math, 17th in science, and 14th in reading compared to students in 27 industrialized countries.” Without national standards, students depend upon the luck of where they were born or schooled to get a comprehensive education that will prepare them for life. If the United States is
Sherwood Middle School students are raving about the early releases on Wednesday instead of Fridays. Sherwood teachers feel it’s better to have early releases on Wednesdays. The teachers believe that it's easier to get things graded in the middle of the week. At the ends of the week teachers were all burnt out. Also the papers in which they had to grade kept piling up.
Middle school sports are very important for many reasons. There is one sport in particular that is not offered in all middle schools across the nation. It is a sport favored by many and loved at all levels. Around middle school, soccer starts to get very competitive and serious. People decide if they want to quit, start or keep playing before the high school level. Many reasons for having middle school soccer include decision making, responsibility, and high school scouting.
Summer alters students education as well. “U.S research shows when taking off two months, especially for low-income families, it can reduce the performance academically for students”(“Leave” p 4+). The whole end goal of year round schooling to begin with is helping students academically perform better but when there are several research and studies that prove to show that students test scores have not increased and even worse than that gone down.. there’s a problem. Many things can be greatly affected by not having summer months for vacation.
Almost all student athletes get butterflies before that Friday night football game, before the fans get to watch them compete, or even the to get the ability to practice. Many argue that high school sports are a distraction in the classroom or even cause career ending injuries. There are many different scenarios that prove that high school sports do the exact opposite of those. When it comes to high school sports, it keeps students fit, boosts a student’s academic performance, and enhances a student’s self-esteem. High school sports are very beneficial and for anyone who is looking to take on a new challenge to take on.
Just think about this one tiny effect. Imagine that you are about to start school at the age of five, and once you arrive you see that kids around you are more prepared, confident, and eager to learn. These young smiley five year old faces don’t make you happy. In fact, this makes you depressed, and saddened. Early education, also known as preschool is of vital importance. Preschool or an early educational establishment is a group of people offering early childhood education, before the age five. They offer enriching courses for children, and help prepare them for the transition into elementary school. Children who use the opportunity of an early education have a huge advantage. On the other hand, children who don’t enter preschools seem to lack in certain areas, and lag behind. Many children in our country do not attend preschool at the age of three or four, and directly enter kindergarten without the early learning opportunity. This issue of a less advantage situation could eventually lead to a bigger disadvantage when it comes to learning. Many parents aren’t willing to send their children to preschool in their early years as it is over expensive and unnecessary for a three year old to enter school. I, on the other hand, disagree with these people. If children learn from early on, there won’t be any need to worry about others who have advantages. I believe that early education should be mandatory, and since many people can’t afford preschools, public school districts should have their own preschool grade for all younger students.
Every morning students in the United States feel the effects the early start time many schools have implemented. These students are lethargic and inattentive, due to the lack of sleep they are getting every night. Typically, adults see these characteristics as the result of teenagers staying up late watching Netflix or using their cell phones. Many reputable organizations, such as the Centers for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics, have researched this problem and found that teenagers are lacking in sleep due to biological and physiological changes that are occurring within their brains. These shifts cause students to be more inattentive and reckless, resulting in lower grades, tardiness, and higher rates of car
In order to be classified as a teaching facility, the building must offer courses the mandatory courses such as english, science, and math, however, school that offer those courses typically have additional classes students must take. One class that is optional in a teaching facility is homeroom, however, I believe every school should have one. Why have homeroom if it is not required? I believe every school should have homeroom because it prepares the students for their future. Homeroom is an opportunity for students to gain excess knowledge. Personally, I believe many students would benefit from having access to the daily occasion. It is an opportunity for students to wrap-up their school day, gather homework and prepare for the next, as well
Many Americans show patriotism and deem American as the greatest country, but are the facts in America’s favor? American has always been known worldwide as a superpower, however is American that glorious in every category? We are known for our many achievements throughout history, but through the 241 years we have been a country not once were we praised for our education system. America has struggled in the past because many students dropped out to work and help provide for their family, and the lack of urgency to learn. However, our education is still a major problem, and today we have no excuse. American students struggle and are average or below average in many tests compared to other countries. The education system in America is doing more harm than good and is putting America and our posterity at risk.
