Social media is a game changing invention but it has come with a hefty amount of backlash. When I was younger I didn’t have a phone and social media was nothing compared to how it is now present day. It’s astonishing just how far the internet and social media have come. Not just when it comes to how advanced or how widespread they’ve become, what shocks me is just how influential social media has become. It’s almost borderline unsettling how much humans as a whole rely and depend on social media for nearly everything they know or want to discover. Social media has become not only a way to locate others and communicate with others but a way for people to learn and stay informed and aware of what goes on outside the doors of their cozy little nook. Looking back to my childhood days, I recall lounging on the couch with my mother in the morning watching news on the television but now that has become a distant memory if I need news today, I get it from social media on my cell phone. The poor television in the living room has become obsolete from lack of use because of a boost in social media's involvement with news and correct political issues.

Social media is a very big deal in today's society, teenagers use it to socialize, find information and for entertainment. The first thing we could find on social media is really nice comments on teens photos. The second thing we could find is teens speaking out and being heard. Social media is helpful to teens because it boosts their confidence and lets teens have a voice. Despite this, some people say social media leads to cyberbullying, but only a small percent of teens said it made them feel less.

Nowadays, a lot of people are using social media such as Facebook, Twitter, Tumbler and so on. Since the Internet has propagated rapidly, social media have progressed a lot. The generalization of the internet makes us to live conveniently and fast. People are almost using smart phones, i-phones or comfortable devices which can access to internet. These equipments make us to do social network easily. It helps contact friends, family, and other people even though they live far away. It could be, however, abused, if you don’t use properly. Especially, it is important that we understand and regulate the use of social media by young children.

Although it can be entraining it can also, be it’s astonishing how most people use social media for wicked activities. not to mention how addicting it is, Comparing our daily lives with others. It can lead to jealousy and a vicious lifestyle we often get caught up in the delusion of thinking social media will help. The more friends/, followers you have the more “popular” you are. Makes us compete with one and others lifestyle.

Imagine a world that hinges on how people view one another through a narrow scope of social media. Reputation is built on how you interact with followers or viewers and the face to face value of conversation is diminished to the point where people no longer default to conversations in person. This is the direction that society is moving in because of the growing presence of social media within our lives. Everyone knows that one person that is glued to their phone on some sort of social platform and lives their lives through the lens of their smartphone camera and the screen on that phone. Social media has a responsibility in the lives of humans and that responsibility should be to promote face to face interaction and the benefits of socializing and meeting people. There are arguments for and against the growth of social media. So, this paper will argue for the opposition first and then have the thesis argument stated and go back and forth responding for both sides. Ultimately, this back and forth argument will give proof as to why social media has a vital role in society that it is not currently fulfilling.

Social media may affect us positively, but it can harm us if used in the wrong ways. There are numerous effects of social media, so we must be careful when using it. We cannot let social media fool us because it’s over a screen. Although social media allows teens more socialization, it may also increase depression, cause cyberbullying, and allow teens to send and receive negative explicit messages.

With growing social unrest in the United States, due to differing political and social opinions, many young adults have taken to social media to share their beliefs with anybody that is willing to listen. The importance of social media in social and political movements became clear to many people during the rise of the Black Lives Matter campaign. Anybody that had an opinion on the campaign could take to their personal social media sites and share what they had to say. While mass media, like news companies and talk shows, allows opinions and biases to spread due to a single, often influential, person sharing their beliefs to a viewership, social media allows anybody to have a say in an issue and brings differing opinions together. By starting social movements on applications such as Twitter and Facebook, users and activists are not limited to the audience that subscribes to that particular site, but rather are able to be heard by anybody and create conversation beyond a small circle of friends and family. Twitter and other social media sites are valuable ways for young adults to read and distribute news in a way that eliminates the bias of the mainstream media towards big social movements and helps propel these movements further, specifically the racial profiling of blacks in the media.

What is social media? If one was to ask an everyday teenager of this generation, they would probably say something to the effect of “It’s a digital platform that helps everyone stay connected no matter what they’re doing.” However, if one was to ask someone from the prior generation what social media is, they might say “It leads to the youth of America becoming more: anti-social, depressed, self-conscious, and more than likely destroys the chances of someone making a career for themselves later in life.” So which answer is correct? Well, surprisingly enough the prior generation is. Social media leaves a digital footprint that can’t be erased no matter what precautions are taken.

Social media could be leaving young people at a higher risk of maladaptive attitudes due to the promotion of unhealthy eating and exercising behavior on these platforms. There is an overwhelming body of research that finds that social media negatively affects young women’s idea of their body (Dignard, 2017; Kleemans, Daalmans, Carbaat, & Anschütz, 2016; Dittmar, 2009; Grabe, Ward, & Hyde, 2008). Accessibility and time spent on the internet is one thing that could be related to an internalization of the thin ideal, body surveillance, and drive for thinness in young girls (Tiggemann, & Slater, 2013). This is especially worrying when young women spend up 27 hours per week online, 14% of which is on social media platforms like Instagram (Ofcom, 2015).

We have brilliantly created social media, plain and simple. It is a space in a different universe where everyone is on the scene. There is nothing that even comes close to it; nothing that compares to its dense communication. Social media is the new world that we live in. It is where we express ourselves while hiding behind our keyboard. It is a space where leaders can bring about change and reach millions. Social media has changed the way we receive news. The news outlets alert us in an instant about any sort of event that may have occurred. Is this good or is this bad? Honestly, I believe that is for you to decide. However, I do have my own opinions regarding how it may be good and how it may be bad. This new universe has uncovered more debate on our interactions with other people and what we can and cannot post. A man-made controversy, what’s new? The creators of social media made it for connecting and re-connecting, yet we seem to draw ourselves farther away from society by it. It is an extremely complicated issue that we need to address. However, there is a way to use this space for good and for bringing about positive change in a broken world. One example of this could be the money that JJ Watt raised for the city of Houston, Texas by promoting his cause on his social media account. We have used and abused social media and because of this we should now carefully examine and discover the pure and true use for such a powerful communication

Twenty years ago, people started their day reading the morning paper, but nowadays we start our morning with our eyes locked on our phones. We are hooked in the age of social media, where millions of teenagers worldwide are using it every second. However, the mental and emotional health of teenagers are at risk when they are exposed to long-term social media usages. It begins as an addiction, and it gradually builds its way up to cause low self-confidence, and even depression. On the bright side, engaging in nature, speaking to somebody, and avoiding social media are effective solutions in solving this 21st century crisis.

In today’s world it’s hard to get by without using a social networking site. Due to the growth and increasingly large part of society it has taken over, not only people, but stores and even food chains as well possess their own social media accounts. Social media is an easy form of communication and allows people to feel more connected with each other. As society has become remarkably attached to their accounts, it becomes an addiction as they upload posts portraying the life they wish to share, not necessarily their life in reality. I for one, however, am not one who posts everything about themselves on social media or Snapchats every second of their life. Moreover, although it has yet to become a worry for most, social media holds important personal information, shares a false reality of people’s lives, and results in less face-to-face interaction with others. Furthermore, resisting the temptation of conformity and not devoting myself to social media accounts has overall been much more enjoyable for me.

Since Twitter’s founding in 2006, it has risen to the top tier of most used social media websites. Now, 11 years later, approximately 10 million people use Twitter every single day (Aslam). While approximately 74% of these users say that Twitter is their go-to for quick and efficient news, the other 41% think otherwise (Gottfried and Shearer). The latter percentage of Twitter users prefer watching news networks such as CNN or Fox and believe that going to a social media platform is misleading and not researched thoroughly. Due to Twitter’s lack of credibility, critics say that using the social media site as a news source is detrimental to one’s understanding of the current world.

Social media helps you reach a wider audience. You are no longer confined to your local area. You can send a message to thousands of people in mere seconds. Today, any entrepreneur can reach a global audience

When it comes to connecting ideas and people in our modern era, there is little doubt that social media brings a plethora of benefits to the masses. The key differentiator is obtaining the audience necessary for making an event successful. For the National Day on Writing, we will focus on Facebook in particular, and the analysis of the audience we will be targeting.
