Americans are terrified and frightened by the idea of granting asylum, and housing to “terrorist” who could possibly be acting as Syrian refugees thanks to the political hysteria and false information. As stated by (_____) “[Americans’] reasoning is based on political hysteria and not grounded in any rational policy considerations.” ( ). Many republican aspiring presidential candidates are misinforming the public by giving them false information regarding the total “vast numbers” of incoming refugees that could be infiltrated ISIS members is causing fear among Americans. For example, as claimed by the republican candidates; Donald Trump, Ben Carson and Carly Fiorina “the Obama administration plans to accept anywhere from 100,000
Everyday, people all over the world are removed from their homes and forced to leave. You could be pushed out of your house from a foreclosure, or pushed out of your country from an extremist. In society today, thousands upon thousands of people are fleeing to a new country they can call “home” and where they can feel safe. Among these people, a big majority are the Syrian people. The Syrian Refugee Crisis has been relevant for about four years since the start of the Syrian civil war that began in March 2011, and is comparable to the Native Americans being pushed from their home lands. The Syrian Refugee Crisis equates to the Trail of Tears because both Syrians and refugees alike were pushed out of their homes, they were both forced to find
According to a national poll by Quinnipiac University, 57% of voters that were registered in the U.S. supported allowing in Syrian refugees. 38% did not. While the majority is in favor of it, the 38% that don't is still a relatively large number. Generally, Americans have become very cautious of Muslims, so far that the generalization of them as potential terrorists lingers in the back of our minds in some shape or form. The correlation between Muslims and Syrians are that the majority are Sunni Muslims, who "make up 2,128, or 93 percent, of the Syrian refugees in the U.S." (FactCheck.org). Therefore, allowing in a group of individuals that are mostly affiliation with a religion that is stereotyped as
Words used everyday by our media and our highest politicians. We hear it uttered with condescension and tainted by fear.[b] But essentially ‘asylum seekers, refugees, boat people’ is what will determine our country's federal election. But many people in this room may not actually know what these 3 phrases really mean[c]. Are these people that seeking a better life, trying to be free and do what’s best for their families. Similarly maybe even searching for health care and resources, perhaps even fleeing from persecution or something else that is out of their control.
Last September, four year old Shahad was found in the rubble of a bombing site in Western Syria. Seven of her family members were killed in the incident. Now in a Lebanese refugee camp, Shahad and her remaining family members are struggling to survive. These are the families that the United States has the potential to help. The potential to let into our country. The potential to offer these types of families a proper education, because we, unlike them, have enough resources. We should let the Syrian refugees into our country.
According to Syrianrefugees.eu, Since June 6 ,2011, Syrian refugees have been pouring out of Syria, into the countries of turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, and 26 other countries, even the United States of America. Inquisitr News states, that their are over 4 million refugees seeking sanctuary from the civil war going on in the Middle East. This makes it very easy for an isis member or jihadist to infiltrate and blend in with the refugees that just want a chance at a new life for them and their families. The cost of feeding and caring for them is alarming and would put the United States even more in debt than we already are, which is 19.8 trillion dollars. If allowing Syrian refugees into America threats or puts the lives of American citizens in danger, and cause our economy to suffer than it already has then the american people must not allow this to happen.
The refugee count in Syria is awful because of ISIS’ relentless chase for power. Many have been injured for being in the way and want to move to other countries, many not caring where they go so long as they get protection and basic human needs. “31 of the United States have rejected Syrian refugees”(Frantz). Texas is the worst one because “ our governor ordered private charities to refuse to give help to the refugees”(Freeman). He believes that the ISIS threat to Texas is greater than the other states because of recent events but he might’ve forgotten about the threats that are already in our country.
is accepting too many refugees. As of 2016, approximately 86,000 Syrian immigrants resided in the United States, accounting for 0.2 percent of the nation's 42.4 million immigrants. Though the population remains a small one, it opened the door to Syrians seeking safety from war and persecution, as well as education and employment opportunities and family reunification. Between 2012 and 2016, the population grew approximately, owing largely to the start of the Syrian Civil War in 2011. In her article, “Syrian Refugees in the United States” (2016), Jie Zong shares, “In 2016, three states did not receive refugees, ten states received less than 100, and the remaining states received less than 5,000 refugees.” Refugees coming from Syria are dispersed well across the U.S. and not overpopulating certain areas. In “Distribution by State and Key Cities,” by Jeanne Batalova she details that the placement of refugees is justified by many factors. “Upon entering the United States, refugees are resettled to states and localities based on a variety of factors, including their family ties in the United States, health, age, family composition, and language, as well as the cost of living and the availability of jobs, housing, education, and health services in potential placement sites” (Batalova). The U.S. government is on careful watch as to who and where they let
See, the Syrian refugee is not contrastive to the Irish nor the Scott refugee, both are fleeing from the same bullets. The Syrian refugee is just another species of fruit loving sparrow. In America, they seek to rebuild their nest upon a secure tree and feast upon the same berries as the other birds. The refugee has not changed but rather the American. The only difference from hitherto is that the American’s government is now supplying the gunman with the ammunition. The enemy has at no time been the refugee, but rather who made them the refugee.
Asylum seekers in Australia always been the focal point of negative political concern for a long time. To stop asylum seekers continue arriving in Australia by boat, Australia enforces the policy of obligatory detention of asylum seekers, unauthorised asylum seekers arriving by boat will be sent to Papua New Guinea camp where operated by the Australian government (‘Asylum seekers: Australia’s shame’ 2017). However, this policy was reported as disgraceful because of the deficient living condition, indefinite and arbitrary of detention and lack of health care (United Nations 2017). Cohen (2011 p. 242) stated that moral panic could be more likely to develop in anything associated with 'immigration, migrants, multicultural absorption, refugees, border controls and asylum seekers’. Is Australia's response to asylum seekers an example of moral panic? By analysing the five criteria from the moral panic theory by looking at the Australian public reaction to asylum seekers with references support, it could be found that the reaction to asylum seekers in Australia is an example of moral panic.
As of right now, the situation between the U.S, and Syria is anything but peaceful and suitable for Syrians. Just recently, the U.S president, Donald Trump, just launched a bomb in Syria, destroying many buildings, businesses, and homes for the citizens of Syria. With nowhere else to go other than other third-world countries like Jordan, Syrian refugees resulted in escape the war and mass destruction of their homeland, in pursuit of better life, a blank slate. Few hundreds to thousands traveled to Europe, and Asia, but great amounts of refugees are trying to migrate to the U.S. To many immigrants and refugees, the U.S seems to be the best option for them, in terms of better opportunities in life, work, etc. But many U.S citizens, and even higher powered individuals, such as Donald Trump, doesn’t want
After the Paris bombing attacks, it was discovered that one of the bombers who went into the country identified as a Syrian refugee, as a result everyone is afraid that something like that will happen here in the U.S. However, it is highly unlikely for an incident like that to occur again. Although there is no reason for it, Americans have been living in fear of terrorism and terrorist attacks for a while now [V.V.B]. Our neighboring country, Canada, has allowed thousands of Syrian refugees in their country and not a single terrorist action has occurred there. However, many people do argue that Canada didn’t make sufficient screenings of all the refugees, so they would never know if someone is a terrorist or has done something terroristic before [Globe and Mail]. Since the 9/11 attacks, there have been almost 750,000 refugees to settle in the United States and out of those only 2 have been arrested on terrorist charges [V.V.B]. Living in fear and generalizing a whole group of people based on the actions of a few isn’t going to do any good for
Syrian refugees should not be allowed into the United States.we already have many immigrants coming in legally and illegally. The United States already has an overflow of the population and we still have problems that we have not fixed, so why should we fix the Syrian’s problem. We have no idea if the Syrians will attack us or not, once they get into our country, they will also have a possibility to take our jobs.
to significantly expand our refugee targets and give more victims of war a safe haven in
All it takes is one foolish person to mess something up right? Donald Trump is carelessly getting rid of Syrian Refugees. Yet, a very intelligent man made this; “Your enemy is not the refugee. Your enemy is the one who made him a refugee.” This quote from Tariq Ramadan, an academic, philosopher, and a writer. What he’s saying is that refugees aren’t the problem, the people who made them a refugee. Refugees aren’t your enemy they are innocent people looking for a place to be safe. The purpose of this essay is to prove that Donald Trump is wrong about refugees and is spreading fake news.
Immigrants and refugees, for many centuries, has been looked at as burdens and last class people in society. Countries have had basically wars over this issue. When talking about immigration and refugees in the government it is an issue of what do we want the immigrants to see and not see. Escape to the E.U. pointed out some great push, pull factors or what immigrants see and endure that can draw them to a place or away.
