Argumentative Essay: The Start Of The Civil War

A Civil War is a battle between the same citizens in a country. The American Civil War was fought from 1861 to 1865 to determine the independence for the Confederacy or the survival of the Union. By the time Abraham Lincoln was elected president in 1861, in the mist of 34 states, the constant disagreement caused seven Southern slave states to their independence from the United States and formed the Confederate States of America. The Confederacy, generally known as the South, grew to include eleven states. The states that remained devoted to the US were known as the Union or the North. The number one question that is never completely understood about the Civil War is what caused the war. There were multiple events that led to the groundbreaking, bloody, and political war.

The United States has been involved in a lot of wars and battles throughout the past. The Civil War was one of the most significant moments in the history of the United States of America. The Civil War took place between the North and South of the United States of America following the Confederacy seceding from the Union after Abraham Lincoln’s presidency and fought to maintain their independence. The war started off as a war regarding the rights of the different states. As the war progressed, it ended up turning into a war about freedom, slaves, white Northerns rioting against the draft and black Americans, Union troops, and much more.

The Civil War took place from 1861 to 1865. Perhaps the most influential war in American history, the Civil War was fought between the northern states and the southern states of America over slavery. Shortly after Abraham Lincoln was elected as the president on March 4, 1861, South Carolina Seceded from the Union. Other states followed in suit, forming the Confederate States of America with its capital at Montgomery, Alabama, its president Jefferson Davis. As controversy flared higher as a result of this event, the Confederates took Fort Sumter. Soon, the Union joined the war. For centuries before the Civil War, large naval battles had not changed dramatically. Battle in the times before the Civil War were fought by wooden, sail-driven ships carrying as many cannon as possible, which would shoot at each other until one of them became so damaged that it could not keep up the fight. In the decade before the Civil War, however, major developments in naval technology forever changed the face of naval warfare. Even though the South was thought to have the advantage over the North the North was able to take advantage of the new technologies that were coming out to actually bring them a victory that set precedents that would last till the present day.

During the period of time preceding the war, people were arguing with each other and most hated each other. The reason they were fighting was mainly over the issue of slavery and what rights a state had. Since there were only eleven states when this happened, the problems they were faced with divided all of them. These issues often came up in the presidential debates between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas. Abraham Lincoln and the North believed that all slavery should end, while Stephen A. Douglas and the South thought that every state had a right to choose if they wanted slavery or not. By the time the Civil War started, people were as furious as they possibly could be at each other. The war officially started when Southern troops attacked Fort Sumter, South Carolina. When the battles started, the Northern states and Southern states were both fighting for what they believed to be right. Although the North had more men and supplies than the South, it was still a hard fought battle. Countless people died during this war and, the most gruesome battle was the Battle of Gettysburg. The war itself is not considered quite controversial, but the issues of it are and there are many reasons as to why.

However Lincoln would not stand for this and so started the war in attempt to bring the union back together. The war lasted from 1861 to 1865 with nearly 620,000 deaths.

During the reconstruction era of 1865 through 1877 times were hard for Southerners of the United States. Because of the casualties by the civil war the south was in need of major work. The South has lost so much because of the war review it and the Lost Cause. Lost calls meaning that they were defeated by the Civil War but this setback was only temporary in the south’s Ultimate vindication.

From 1861-1865, the American Civil War began. It consisted of two big parts the North and the South. North and South have very many good and bad strengths and weaknesses.

I precede with great urgency owing to the fact that war should be near. We cannot stand around and allow another dismal act be proposed on us yet again. I have heard every side to this while sitting in the House of Burgesses, and I have made up my mind.

In 1861, the Civil War began. America was split in two over the issue of slavery. One side was the Union and one was the Confederates. The war was officially declared by President Lincoln for the matter of uniting the states, which have been disunited due to the secession of eleven Southern states. In 1865, the Union took victory, and more troubles were yet to come.
