Individual assignment - you can work together but must write and turn in your own. a. Describe what your team designed. A diagram model is used to explain the design’s structure and function. Includes an overall image and more detailed, “zoomed in” images/diagrams of special features.
Our team designed a shield for dangerous police encounters and it’s called the Rapid Protection Shield (RPS). The RPS is an gauntlet/sleeve type of equipment that, with the press of a button, can extend with great speed, into a shield to cover the face and lower torso. It can be equipped or taken off with ease and speed and comes with high powered lights. These lights are able to blink and shine with distraught

A number of predators, or natural enemies, like to eat armadillos. Chief among them is the coyote. But such predators as bobcats, cougars, wolves, bears, raccoons and even some of the larger hawks and other birds of prey will also attack and devour an armadillo. Because of this, the armadillo developed an evolutionary strength. While many animals have developed things like camouflage, speed or even flight to avoid predators the armadillo evolved with thickened skin on it’s back which makes it hard to do any real damage to that side of the body. The armadillos uses this to their advantage by rolling up into balls so that no weak skin is exposed, this makes them near invincible anywhere in the animal …show more content…
Not to say police shootings are always unjust, but they are almost always preventable, to some degree. But what I’m worried about the most is militarizing the police. I know this may stray off topic a bit but as one of the designer/creators of this project, I don’t want this to be used casually to harass citizens just for something like a speeding ticket. The point of this is to stop a bullet and blind the attacker so the cop can mase, taze or subdue a dangerous criminal. My hope is that cops will be responsible when it comes to this piece of equipment. The biggest shortcoming is the shortcoming of others who are not responsible enough to use this shield in the right
Over the last few years there has been much controversy leading up to the need for law enforcement officers to wear body cameras. This is not only for citizens but also for the officers’ protection. With so much debate regarding police brutality and excessive force body cameras are quickly on the rise. New technology is giving police on a state and federal level a new opportunity to cut back on some of the allegations and negativity we have seen in the last few years. On the other hand it is giving citizens all over the country the safety they should feel when being approached by law enforcement. Our technology has improved significantly over the years and this seems to be something that will benefit everyone.
The armadillo is the only remaining member of the Cingulata order of the animal kingdom (www.factzoo.com). All species of armadillo are characterized by the number of bands they have (Brittanica, 563). Armadillo in Spanish means “little armored one” which hints at their armored bands. An armadillo’s armor is made of dermal bone plates which are covered with overlapping epidermal scales called scutes (www.factzoo.com).The armadillo’s armor works well against predators, not cars. They are known as the “Hillbilly Speed Bump” for their tendency to get run over by cars. They have bony rings or plates that protect their tails. The plates are separated by movable bands. Only one species of armadillo can actually roll up into a ball to defend itself. Armadillos have strong short legs, suited for digging. With their strong legs, they also have strong claws
Within recent years there has been much controversy surrounding police officers and whether or not they should be wearing body cameras to document their everyday interactions with the public. While the use of body cameras may seem to invade the public or police privacy. Police-worn body cameras will be beneficial to law enforcement and civilians all over the world. Police must be equipped with body cameras to alleviate any doubt in the effectiveness of officers. Law enforcement worn body cameras would enhance the trust of the public by keeping both the officers and the citizens accountable for their actions, providing evidence, and helping protect them from false accusations, while protecting privacy
Today, law enforcement agencies, or more specifically police officers, are under constant scrutiny from their peers as well as outside sources. Many of these problems arise from how the police treat and deal with these citizens. There is however a solution to these problems, which can not only improve officer safety, but can also protect anyone else that the officer encounters. The solution to this problem is officer mounted camera systems, or better known as body cameras. These body cameras capture almost everything an officer see’s as well as hears. This allows for protection against a police officer as well as protection for a citizen who was scrutinized for something he or she might have done or not. Body cameras are ever increasing in policing and have many benefit’s as well as draw backs.
Police work is dangerous. Sometimes police put in situations that excessive force is needed, but, because some officers use these extreme measures in situations when it is not required to use excessive force. The use of excessive force it should be looked into by the system in the misuse of power among officers. Most police officers throughout the ranks of the U.S. police departments are just seeking more authority/recognition among the population or the district his/he is working. The U.S. law enforcement that misuse their authority would get away with it in the past it would only be he or she said. Since the invention of cameras more of the excessive force used by police officers use gets caught in a circle around due to the social network. Law enforcement agents need to wear cameras with their uniforms and a penalty for any tampering with cameras view or shutting down the cameras with a 20 year sentence.
As a further result of the strained relationship between law enforcement and the general population debate about the potential use of police worn body camera’s erupted not only in the United States but across the globe including
Some of the ways that police abuse the law is by creating unneeded tickets, wrongfully taking others possessions and using excessive force, usually referred to as “police brutality.” In some cases, allegations of police brutality are false; however, some officers use unnecessary force and innocent people suffer. In America, there are numerous cases of law enforcers that harass innocent citizens physically, mentally or verbally. Police men and women are supposed to prevent crime, not create it. “One of the main reasons that police brutality occurs is due to the mental, as well as physical, health of the officer. One of the underlying causes of these syndromes or states of being is the lack of wages, which is brought on by less funding to the police” (Cao). Dashboard cameras are one attempt to help stop police abuse but they are easily able to be removed and turned off and are under the control of the officer. If the officer did abuse somebody he could erase the footage on the camera before he even got back to the department. A new, better, solution is mounting Point of View (P.O.V.) cameras on the officers with a live feed leading to one central computer in charge of monitoring these cameras. Daniel B Wood, a professor at the University of Texas A&M, stated in the article “Why The Police Are Hard To Police,” “Mounting cameras on a police officer through federal funding will lower the amount of criminals that were not convicted because of a lack of
In the high-tech age we live in, and where the use of smart phones can capture and record live actions and moments, many of these moments are now being captured by on-duty police officers who are using body mounted cameras to record incidents as they occur. The cameras, that these officers are utilizing, are small devices that are no more than two inches long and can be easily installed onto the officer’s glasses. The recording device is then attached to the officer’s uniform and is placed in an obscured location. The use of these body cameras are still under scrutiny but are quickly becoming standard uniform equipment in law enforcement departments throughout the United States.
Background This memorandum serves to inform the effort to aide in the use of police body cameras. There has been a major rise in the amount of attention police brutality has been receiving. With social media and the ability to change captions as well as clip videos, it has become alarming the amount of backlash police officers are receiving. Protecting the life of a police officer as well as our citizens should be our first priority.
In todays society, American citizens are unpleased with the law enforcement officers. These officers are here protecting the people of America, and to get the people doing the wrong things off the street so the rest of the people can be safe. In the past few months, there have been shootings of American citizens, and shootings of law enforcement officers. The people of society are only seeing the bad side of police officers, and never understand the whole story when needed to be heard. As the internet continues to expand, the promises it makes is beyond human understanding (Carr 56). The internet and television are the most complex form of technology, and only portray the bad side of cops. “The idea of multimedia is to combine text, sound, and pictures in a single package that you browse on screen” (Gelernter 97). The idea of body cameras put in the uniforms of the law enforcement officers has been talked about, so that everyone can see the exact truth of the situation. The idea of body cameras for the law enforcement officers has it benefits and drawbacks. I think having the body cameras will greatly benefit the law enforcement officers in society today and in the future.
In today’s society no one is safe from everyday peril. Situations arise daily that may present either a law enforcement official or civilian that could warrant the need for extra protection. In some cases it is a matter of he said, she said. For those faced with such situations, documentation that could be provided by body cameras worn by police officials could be of great use. Body cameras have been tested in a small group of police departments and have provided an overwhelming positive effect. Police officers wearing body cameras not only provide the officers with extra peace o mind but give civilians documentation to back up their sides of the story. Not everyone is in favor of police
Law enforcement has faced a lot of criticism regarding the relationship between the people with the inner communities. The change in law enforcement is now taking place in most departments across the country. In the next ten years the criminal justice system with implement body cameras for every officer. These cameras will change the face of law enforcement. First it will protect the officer from malicious prosecution for miss use of force. For example, the Michael Brown case in Ferguson Missouri involved a police shooting of an unarmed black male. In this case the officer use of deadly force was called into question, because some witnesses believed that the shooting was unlawful. Due to the lack of supportive evidence, it created an uproar
There is an ongoing conversation on what it will take to reduce police brutality in this country. There have been many suggestions by politicians on the ways that it could possibly be reduced. One of the things that is constantly brought is the possibility of police officers nationwide wearing mounted cameras on them throughout the duration of their shifts. This technology comes with both its positive and negative benefits, but it seems to be the topic most commonly talked about. I believe that this technology goes deeper than simply ensuring police officers aren’t victimizing the public. I believe that this technology carries many more benefits along with it. Upon graduating with a degree in Criminal Justice here at IUPUI I would like to
Due to a series of recent police-involved shootings, our nation has been filled with riots and unrest. American citizens are demanding for more police accountability. One of the most popular solutions to this problem is the implementation of body-worn cameras. There have been very few studies done on the effects of police forces wearing body-worn cameras. I am proposing a year-long research study of the implementation of body-worn cameras with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department also known as IMPD. IMPD has six distinct districts that cover different parts of Indianapolis and its suburbs. I will include all six districts in my study, and I will look at both the types of use-of-force techniques that were used as well
In today’s society, the people, the press, and the media has created a problematic view towards police officers. Now a days we perceive them as bad men who abuse their authority and disobey their code of conduct. There are far too many incidences that proves police officers are mistreating citizens and their victims. Many people don’t trust police officers as much as they use to, the media portrays police officers as crooked cops who place themselves higher than the law and that they are the law. There are far too many false arrest and mistreatments towards many innocent victims, and so a new plan was set into place that created a big controversy.
