In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, there are many interesting characters that make up this story. There’s Dill Harris, a smart little boy who comes to Maycomb every summer to visit his Aunt Rachel. He’s very good friends with Jem and Scout. There’s Atticus Finch, a lawyer and the dad of Scout and Jem. He is skilled with rifles and is a caring father. The most interesting character in To Kill a Mockingbird, in my opinion, is Arthur “Boo” Radley. One reason why Boo Radley is the most interesting character is because we don’t know much about him. People know him only by the rumors about him. He’s a very mysterious character who I would like to know more information about. Information like why can't he leave the house?, or what
The most interesting character from the book To Kill A Mockingbird is Scout Finch because she is very smart, she is curious, and is kind of like a tomboy.
In the beginning of the book we are introduce to several young children. People could say these children are rather rambunctious and wild. Scout and Jem are brother and sister who live with their father. Not to far from the beginning we are introduced to a boy named Dill. Dill was a boy who came in the summer to live with his aunt. These children eventually hear a story about a boy named Arthur Radley. Arthur's nickname that every would call him is Boo Radley. Boo would would never come out of his house and that inspired Scout, Jem, and Dill to mock and make fun of him.
To Kill a Mockingbird is a book that shows both moral and physical courage throughout the book. The narrator, Scout, is a six year old girl who lives with her brother Jem and dad, Atticus Finch, who is a lawyer in Maycomb County, who is chosen to defend a black man who is accused of raping Mayella Ewell the daughter of Tom Ewell. Scout and Jem have a best friend named Dill who visits every summer. They are always daring each other to Boo Radley’s house. Boo Radley is a mysterious man, who never comes out of his house, and in the end is the
Boo Radley is the mysterious man in Maycomb County , and he is the killer in every scary kid’s story. Boo stays locked up in his house, and has not came out in thirty years. They say that Boo lives off of raw squirrels and cats that he catches., Aand that he has a big scar across his face, and yellow rotten teeth. Jem, Scout, and Dill spendt their summer trying to get Boo to come out of his house, but it never worksed. The children always wondered why Boo stayded inside his homeuse. Even though he never said why he stayed inside, the children finally understand after what they witness over the summer and school year. One reason why Boo stays inside because he is forced to. Another second reason is that Boo prefers to stay in his own environment,
The first character compared to a mockingbird is the Finch’s neighbor, Boo Radley. Without knowing anything about Boo, Jem says to Dill, “Boo was about six-and-a-half feet tall, judging from his tracks; he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch, that’s why his hands were bloodstained-if you ate an animal raw, you could never wash the blood off. There was a long jagged scar that ran across his face; what teeth he had were yellow and rotten; his eyes popped, and he drooled most of the time” (13). The description Jem gives to Dill about Boo Radley is based on what others have said, or the Radley Family history. Jem has not seen or met Boo to get to know what kind of person he really is. Towards the end of the book the children get a different perspective on Boo. Scout says, “I looked from his hands to his sand-stained khaki pants; my eyes traveled up his thin frame to his torn denim shirt. His face was as white as his hands, but for a shadow on his jutting chin. His cheeks were thin to hollowness; his mouth was wide; there were shallow, almost delicate indentations at his temples, and his gray eyes were so colorless I thought he was blind. His hair was dead and thin, almost feathery on top of his head” (270). When Scout sees Boo Radley for the first time he is not what she expected. She expected a monster, but instead she saw the real Boo, a innocent human being, just like herself. Later on Scout observed, “Neighbors bring food with death and flowers with sickness and little things in between. Boo was our neighbor. He gave us two soap dolls, a broken watch and chain, a pair of good-luck pennies, and our lives. But neighbors give in return. We never put back back into the tree what we took out of it: we had given him nothing, and it made me
In the novel “To Kill a Mockingbird” written by Harper Lee there are two important characters revealed to us throughout the text. These characters are are Boo Radley and Atticus Finch. These important characters are revealed to us through dialogue, actions and choices and finally through what others say about them. Atticus is a courageous and unprejudiced man with good values and morals. Boo Radley is misunderstood and with one selfless act the opinions from from the community are rapidly changed.
Boo Radley hates to create trouble, so he remains inside and lacks vitamin D causing him to be as white as a ghost. "I think I’m beginning to understand why Boo Radley’s stayed shut up in the house all this time… it’s because he wants to stay inside.” (page 259) The quote explains how Boo chooses to not interact with the outside world and not get in anyone’s business. The community speaks about Boo a lot and depicts him to be a juvenile delinquent. “Jem gave a reasonable description of Boo: Boo was about six-and-a-half feet tall, judging from his tracks, he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch…” (page 14) Here Boo is characterized to be a wild animal and a monster even though there is no significant evidence to support Jem’s claim because of society’s influence Scout accepted it as being true. Boo in all these circumstances shows how he genuinely is a
He has had some incidents in his lifetime and his father made him stay inside for a punishment. People in the town commerce daily and are very social. They did not know why a weird man like Boo would stay inside and not come outside and join the town. They made up things about him because they did not know who he was. “Boo was about six-and-a-half feet tall, judging from his tracks; he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch, that's why his hands were bloodstained—if you ate an animal raw, you could never wash the blood off. There was a long jagged scar that ran across his face; what teeth he had were yellow and rotten; his eyes popped, and he drooled most of the time” (65). Since they did not know who he really was and looked like, they made up stories about him. These stories led to the children wanted to learn more about him, but also hearing these stories, kids would run by his house or walk a different route to not go by it. Really Boo Radley just wanted to stay inside. When he saw the kids being attacked, he wanted to help. Boo Radley is just a normal man who wants to just live his life like
Boo Radley is labeled an outcast and an outsider by the society of Maycomb because of the rumors and myths that have surrounded him through the years of being confined to his brother’s home. For over twenty-five years, Boo Radley has been restricted to the indoor limits of the Radley house suppressing him further from the Maycomb community. Arthur “Boo” Radley was a troublesome child who sadly continued to make wrong choices once he became
Arthur Radley, also known as Boo Radley, is the children's childhood mystery man. The rumors circled the entire neighborhood and the absurdity of them ranged from watching people at night to eating raw squirrels and cats. Scout, Jem, and their friend Dill took a special interest in Boo Radley, but what they did not know was that Boo Radley was watching their lives unfold. He served as their protector and even provided gifts to the children to get them through the hardships they went through. ¨Summer, and he watched his children's heart break. Autumn again, and Boo's children needed him.¨(Lee, 374) Despite the horrendous rumors that the children believed about Radley, he is an empathetic person and did not judge them for believing what they believe and saves the children's lives. Empathy was also shown towards Boo Radley from an unexpected character, Mr. Heck Tate, the Maycomb sheriff. ¨...Mr. Finch, taking the one man who's done you and this town a great service an' draggin' him with his shy way into the limelight--to me, that's a sin.¨(Lee,369-370) After saving Atticus's children, Mr. Heck Tate knew that the town would not leave Boo Radley in peace, and decides to change the story to keep Boo Radley out of the limelight. Empathy was carefully conveyed in the character of Boo Radley, and Mr. Heck
One of the “mockingbirds” was Boo Radley. Radley was Finch’s quiet neighbor. When Bob Ewell attacks Scout and her brother, Boo steps up and defends the kids. He kills Ewell, and the sheriff creates a lie to save Boo. Another character that can be seen as a mockingbird is Tom Robinson, the man in the courthouse ring trial. Tom Robinson is a black male who was falsely accused of raping a white women. Innocent black men many times were put on trial for made up crimes. Robinson was a kind and peaceful man, similar to Radley.
First of all, Boo Radley is a man who is perceived by others one way, when he really is another way, yet no one really knows. Boo is perceived by others to be scary and dangerous, when in reality he is nothing but
First of all, Boo Radley is one of the good characters in this novel, but he is considered an evil character. For example Jem described him as, “Boo was about and half feet tall, judging from his tracks; he dined on raw squirrels and any cats he could catch, that why his hands were bloodstained…” (Lee 13). Also, many people in Maycomb knew the story of Boo stabbing his father in the knee with scissors. He
In Harper Lee’s novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, the author follows the childhood of the main character known as Jeremy Atticus Finch. He is the son of lawyer Atticus Finch, and older brother of Jean Louise Finch, also known as Scout. The family lives in a fictional town called Maycomb, Alabama. In their early lives, the two siblings were infatuated in figuring out the secrets of the Radley family, especially Boo Radley, in the house down their road. At the beginning of the story, their curiosity plays a big part in their lives. This builds during their many experiences and gives the readers a better sense of the characters’ traits. Jem Finch plays one of the key roles in the storyline and has a very brave, emotional, and protective personality.
He is considered a myth in the town of Maycomb. Scout and Jem were always attempting to get a good look at Boo Radley. In my opinion this takes a lot of courage because of Boo’s father. Boo’s father is a foot washington baptist; this means that he is heavily religious and he will not let Boo leave the house and not interact with other people, but thats the not the only reason. There is a reason why Mr. Radley is hiding Boo from everyone else, and thats what Jem and Scout want to find out who the man and the mystery is. So Scout has to face her fears with Jem to go onto their property and try not to get
