Assignment – Wildlife and conservation
The main goals of wildlife conservation are to preserve and protect nature so that it will be around for future generations of both wildlife and humans to enjoy. It is essentially the attempt to protect endangered animal and plant species and their natural habitats. In researching two different vertebrate species in the United Kingdom, one that has benefitted from a population increase in recent years and one that has recently seen a decline in population, the similarities and differences in the various challenges that they face can be investigated. The proposed solutions to improve the situation for the declining species will then be discussed.
The UK population of the greater horseshoe bat, Rhinolophus ferrumequinum, has significantly increased over the last twenty years (Bat Conservation Trust, 2017). This recent success can be attributed to many factors such as the change in climate providing a more favourable environment for populations to grow. The increased temperatures in the spring season result in pups being born earlier in the year and a greater abundance of sustenance being available (Froidevaux et al, 2017). Females will mate from autumn until spring visiting various breeding territories in doing so. This enables the females that rarely change colonies, to strengthen their colonies by choosing the best possible genetic material to pass to their offspring (Rossiter et al, 2000).

Wiping sweat off my forehead, I stand up excitedly. The paw-prints on the ground are fresh—I have almost located them. Jumping back into the beat-up pick-up truck, I follow the increasingly loud beeping of the radio telemetry set until I spot the pack just fifty yards in front of me. Quietly, I climb out of the vehicle, and momentarily stare in awe at the small pack of gray wolves I have been tracking for hours in the wilderness of Montana. My field pants are speckled with briars and a few stray leaves cling to my backpack and one even dangles at the end of my braided hair. I observe the wolves, noticing the behavior of each member, record various data of the current area, and save the point in my GPS. Having successfully completed the
The development of tourism around certain key wildlife species can be problematic. Evaluate strategies which are used, around the world, to seek a working balance in the Nature-People relationship?

Florida Wildlife Busters is a full-service animal control service that is located in Lake Mary, Florida. Florida Wildlife Busters serves the Central Florida area. The service areas they cover include Orange County, Seminole County, Osceola County, Brevard County, Volusia County, Flagler County, Lake County, and Polk County. The services they render include animal trapping and removal, dead animal location and removal, animal exclusion and prevention backed by a lifetime renewable guarantee, bee and wasp removal/extermination, and sanitization and decontamination. Their bee and wasp extermination rate starts at $150.00. Their rate for snake repellant and/or removal starts at $150.00. The animals they remove include rats and mice, squirrels,
Conservation of our biodiversity not only demonstrates foresight, it protects the natural resources so vital to our own continued existence. The value of any single species to an ecosystem is immeasurable; the environment will not endure without its species, despite size or niche. These animals are not dispensable. And, they are apt to face extinction in the not too distant future, unless a resolve for their preservation is insisted by the public and enforced by governments internationally.

In the late 1800’s and early 1900’s there were a lot of things going on in the United States. New laws were being formed about child labor, women started standing up for themselves and demanding tights and just in general people started to realize that if they wanted something to change that they had to speak up to make a difference. As cities became more crowded, people started to look for peace in their chaotic lives. Before this time period, not many people valued the true beauty of the western United States and all of its beautiful scenery.
As referred to in “Zoologists and Wildlife biologists Ocupational” the median salary for a wildlife biologist is about $59,680 per year which is $28.69 hourly. The lowest ten percent earned less than $39,180, and the highest ten percent earned more than $97,390. According to “Salary:Wildlife Biologist” the average annual pay for the Johnstown area is about $42,061. Depending on where you work you will get paid a different amount. Overall Pennsylvania has an annual salary of $60,000 and and hourly pay of $28.85. West Virginia has an annual salary of $47,300 and $22.74 hourly. Connecticut has an annual salary of $91,240 and a hourly pay of $43.87("Zoologists And Wildlife Biologists :: Salaries"). You don't immediately get paid that amount of money. Depending on how long you have
In Tasmania this species is fully protected and the population has been increasing slowly. However, the populations on mainland Australia are so fragmented and small that they may be too small to survive. This species’ recovery in Australia depends on a nationally coordinated approach, with habitat loss, predator control and captive breeding projects all needing to be
Wildlife overpopulation is a controversial topic. Some believe that wildlife overpopulation is not a real problem. I personally, believe that wildlife overpopulation is a true issue. Wildlife especially, the eastern whitetail deer population is in these modern times, is out of control. “There are an estimated 30 million whitetail deer in the United States today. Under optimal conditions, whitetail deer populations will double every two years”(Rooney). As the numbers of whitetail deer rise the land for them to live on gets smaller this may lead to deer walking on to roads and causing accidents.
The main customer of the Alberta Institute for Wildlife Conservation (AIWC) is the general public, as AIWC are a facility to rehabilitate and educate about wild animals.
Bill Freedmen, author of “Endangered Species—Human Causes Of Extinction and Endangerment” notes, “scientists approximate that present extinction rates are 1,000 to 10,000 times higher than the average natural extinction rate.” These distressing numbers should be acted upon to save the endangered species and avoid the catastrophic change to this planet if these species were to become extinct. In order to produce change, people need to recognize that habitat loss, climate change, and poaching are all factors in why our animal species are going extinct.
There are 6.5 million species of land mammals. Wildlife biologists get the privilege of studying and spending time with these animals as their everyday life. I should be a wildlife biologist so I can study land mammals.
Since approximately 1250 B.C., ancient Egyptians had created and practiced the capture and display of animals in what are now known as zoos (Fravel). Records describe such exotic animals as birds, lions, giraffes, and tigers in captivity (Fravel). Since then, zoos have continued to entertain millions with the exciting chance to view exotic animals up close and personal. Even in ancient Greece, exotic animals were on display in fighting arenas, and in enclosed viewing areas. Originally in America, zoos were just created so that royalty and the wealthy could flaunt their exotic animals to the public (Leolupus). Today, with species threatened and habitats disappearing worldwide, zoos are serving a new purpose other than the mere exhibition of
Conservation is a key component in the preservation of Earth’s wildlife, resources and overall sustainability. Our ethics and respect for the environment make an everlasting impact on not just our lives but the many other organisms that inhabit this planet with us. Well, what are conservation ethics exactly? “The conservation ethic is an ethic of resource use, allocation, exploitation, and protection. Its primary focus is upon maintaining the health of the natural world: its forests, fisheries, habitats, and biological diversity” (Conservation Ethic). Actions as small as picking up garbage strewn across the landscape can be a form of preservation and a great ethic to possess and pass on to future generations. Our generation
