Sports can be viewed as a learning environment that helps individuals learn life lessons, foster strong work habits and develop core values all the while learning a sport skill. Youth sports that truly benefit young athletes should be structured to emphasize participation more than just competition. Children enjoy a sport more when they are able to have fun (Humpries). Despite many excesses some sport programs still manage to promote important virtues like self- confidence, teamwork, personal responsibility, coping skills, and persistence. Through sports kids can learn to stay organized and learn how to prioritize (Ferguson). Sports enables development of physical skills and increasing proficiency makes kids feel good about themselves. It teaches kids that failure is something to overcome and and not to fear (Meyerhoff 8-9). Youth sports has many aspects that are truly benefiting for children, but these benefits are slowly being clouded by the negatives that are prominent in today's youth sports.

They promote concentration abilities and leadership traits. Most students in activities outside of school will say that sports help have a goal to have their grades at or to put in extra effort out. Furthermore, sports may not seem like they teach kids about life, but they improve social qualities and the ability to accept winning and losing appropriately. If someone you know wants to improve their kids grades find an extracurricular activity that they are interested and sign them up. It not only improves grades but they can improve friendships and qualities that might be needed when the kids grow

Playing sports or even having the knowledge of them can result into happier and more social students. This implies that our school can be more successful if we have greater variety of sports kids can join. Although being happier and more social isn't the only benefit of being in sports.

It is true that more sporting champions now pay more attention to play for the money the get paid than what records they can break or whether they can win a match. This kind of phenomenon actually not that astonish to the public. Recent research reveals that more graduated students are more willing to choose jobs which can offer them high paid and ignore whether the students themselves are interested in the job or not. It is the same reason for those athletes.

Professional athletes are among the highest paid individuals in the world. While the money that athletes receive comes from different sources it is all fan based profits. For an individual to buy a typical National Football League jersey it will cost $85.(NFL.com) Athletes may provide entertainment, and leadership. Although athletes provide benefits they also set bad examples to young children, and they receive more compensation than the people defending our freedom.

Although competitive sports can have many negative effects, one positive effect is that you learn many life skills by just doing one thing. According to Kirk Mango, you can learn coping skills, sports help develop character, desire and inner will, determination/preservation, commitment, discipline, sacrifice, priorities, builds a better heart, creating a positive mindset, cooperation, and of course who could forget teamwork. Sports can help people that play in physical ways too. One way is that sports can help people stay healthy. Another thing is that people that dont do sports are more likely to be more fat than the people that do play sports. Also kids that play sports tend to have healthier bones and muscles compared to people that don't play sports.

Athletes are role models and contribute money to the public. For instance, sports idols are the only things that stand between ghetto kids and a drug life. Also, pro athletes set up and go to camps to teach sports and life skills. Lastly, athletes don’t spend all the money for themselves (house for mom, charity). Professional athletes are good examples to kids and they give to/sponsor charities.

One benefit to having sports in school is that it helps you to develop traits not developed in classroom such as determination. Athletes learn this trait by working hard in the sports that they play in. For example athletes have to build up their stamina by doing a lot of cardio, like running. Most Athletes also have to build muscle by lifting weights. Athlete also have to do drills in their sports to get better technique. All these things requires the athlete to put effort in to complete these tasks. Sports may not be all that good for children. Some people might say that sports can cause injury, children won’t get a chance to play if they are not very good, or children may be made fun of for lacking skill in that particular sport. I believe that participating in sports has a much more positive impact on children. Sports can help children’s health approve, help them develop new friends, and can help improve the children’s self confidence.

American high schools are bound to have plenty of sports for all students to play. So why not pick a sport to play in high school?
