On August 7, 1998, two U.S. embassies were attacked almost simultaneously. One was in Nairobi, Kenya and the other in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The attack in Kenya involved both a truck bomb and at least two suicide bombers. The truck was at the back entrance of the embassy when the bomb went off, and the damage was critical. This attack had more casualties than the bombing in Tanzania because the truck that contained the bomb was able to get into the inner embassy compound. Also, the Nairobi embassy was close to the center of the city which was more populated and led to more deaths. The U.S. embassy was not the only building affected in the explosion. ambassador that was injured in the bombing. She had been meeting outside with Joseph Kamotho, Kenya's trade minister. Their first thought from hearing the smaller blast was that it must be the noise from construction. Another victim, Linda Howard, witnessed the explosion around 10:40 A.M. She was on the fourth floor of the United States Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya and was in a meeting. Soon after she heard the small explosion, she suddenly realized that all of the windows were currently being blasted, the roof was caving in, and smoke seemed to appear from every direction. Before she had analyzed what was going on, she was being yelled at by Embassy guards to get down on the floor. After fifteen minutes of crawling around without being able to see, they had reached the ground floor. What Howard saw next terrified her. She saw lifeless bodies, fires everywhere, and the screams of terrified people. Bill Bar who is director of the U.S. Information Service in Kenya, was also at the same meeting as Linda Howard. He also recalls hearing a thump and thought it was possibly the sound of a grenade being thrown at the embassy. Some also recall hearing gunfire outside of the embassy before the big explosion. Al Qaeda is the international terrorist group responsible for these two attacks. The mastermind behind the attacks was named Fazul Abdullah Mohammed. He was recruited by Osama Bin Laden who was a Saudi millionaire. Osama was the leader that funded and supported Al Qaeda. For

On April 19, 1995 the world was thrown into shock. Terrorism was not a thing in the United States. It was even more of a shock to find out this terrorist was a resident of the United States. Not only did this tragedy effect the hundreds of people inside the Oklahoma City Murrah building, it also affected billions of rescue workers, families, and loved ones. All the different groups of people affected by this bomb copped in very different ways.
On April 19th, 1995 a horrific terrorist attack on U.S. soil took place in the heartland of Oklahoma. The Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma was targeted and was completely blown to pieces by one gigantic homemade bomb. The unimaginable had happened at the starting of a typical day at work. This day would be forever commemorated for the rest of America's history, unlike any other day until 9/11, as a prominent attack on the government of the United States.
The creator of this group was Osama Bin Laden. The U.S. and Osama Bin Laden had different opinions on who had more power and a better religion (Cassidy Frieling). The main reason on why Al-Qaeda did this attack was because of disapproval of America’s relationship with Israel (Olivia Pelaez). The reason behind this is because Israel and the United States are the closest because the U.S. supports them with military and financial assistance (Kyrie Dozer). Also, they wanted America to be the same religion as them which is Islamic (Kyrie Dozer). To sum it up, the reason why Al-Qaeda attacked the U.S. was because our relationship with Israel and our different viewpoints of
This tragic event in history is traditionally viewed as a terrorist attack on the US by an extremist group called al-Qaeda. Claims were made by al-Qaeda that they had planned, arranged, and organized the attacks. Since that day in history the Islamic group has never been viewed the same. Al-Qaeda is an Islamic organization that was founded by Osama bin Laden, Abdullah Azzam, and many others, somewhere between August 1988 and late 1989, with traceable origins of the Arab volunteers who
Prior to September 11, 2001, people could sneak weapons onto planes. The weapons included explosives and tools that individuals could use to help hijack planes. In 1995, Al Qaeda plotted to bomb 12 United States trans-Pacific flights and also planned to kill Bill Clinton on his trip to the Philippines (Cronin 2). The bombings on the United States embassies in East Africa were several attacks that happened on August 7, 1998 in Nairobi, Kenya and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. These attacks occurred simultaneously and involved truck bomb explosions at the American embassies in these countries resulting in the death of hundreds of people and destruction of property. Moreover, these attacks happened on the same date that marked the eighth anniversary of the arrival of the United States forces in Saudi Arabia. The genesis of the attacks were largely associated to the members of the Egyptian Islamic Jihad that culminated in the placement of Osama bin Laden among the top ten most wanted fugitives by the United States. These attacks on the American embassies were not only shocking to the world but it also resulted in the understanding of the serious security threat posed by terrorists and terror organizations.
To begin, the two attacks were launched by different types of enemies. On September 11, 2001, civilian terrorists attacked the United States. They belonged to a group called Al Qaeda and were from the nations of Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt. On December 7, 1941, the United States military base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii was attacked by the
During the night of September 11, 2012, a United States State Department Special Mission Compound, also known as the Diplomatic Compound, was attacked by a group of terrorists in Benghazi, Libya. The United States Ambassador, Christopher Stevens, stayed in the Diplomatic Compound, as his home in Benghazi, along with nine other people. State Department computer expert, Sean Smith, and three members of the “17 February militia,” also known as the “17 Feb” and five Diplomatic Security agents accompanied Ambassador Christopher Stevens. About a mile away from the Diplomatic Compound was the Annex. The Annex held six American security soldiers, the soldiers were: Dave Benton, Mark Geist, Kris Paronto, Jack Silva, John Tiegen, and Tyrone Woods. A group of terrorists went up to the front gate of the Diplomatic Compound and knocked it down with a rocket projectile that got shot out of a rocket launcher. The members of the “17 Feb”
In Benghazi, Libya, the American diplomatic compound was attack by Islamic militants on September 11, 2012. This was eleven years to the day of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. News anchors have questioned many things about this attack, including putting former Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, on the defense. In recent news, there have been many questions on the 2012 Benghazi attack including: the delay in military response, why the “fast movers” never arrived, and who was behind the cover up.
On March 30, 1981 John Hinckley Jr shot at the Then-President of the United States, Ronald Reagan, as he walked from the Washington Hilton Hotel to his limo. The President was hit in the armpit and two of his guards were also shot as well as his aide. President Reagan went into a 2-Hour surgery and survived the attempt on his life with a couple of scars. April 18, 1983 in Beirut, Lebanon, a man drove a truck into the US Embassy and detonated about 2,000 pounds of explosives. Instantly killing 63 people, including 13 American CIA operatives. Just a year before this brutal attack the military forces of the United States of America and some European nations stepped in to help the Lebanese government with the third part of their Civil War. The Lebanese Hezbollah and the Islamic Jihad Organization expressed a strong dislike for the American and Israeli forces on the outskirts of Beirut. The Islamic Jihad Organization later claimed responsibility for the bombing. In the aftermath of the attack the Then-Secretary of State George Shultz tasked a team with making sure that the overseas embassies were safe. Their result was the State Department’s Bureau of Diplomatic Security and Diplomatic Security Service. On June 14, 1985 two gunman board a
Qaeda planned carefully in the attacks on the Unites States by sending nineteen militants over a period of several years to keep our suspicions down. They also held their meeting all across the globe. The planning meetings were held in Malaysia, they took flying lessons in the United States, and the leaders of al-Qaeda were in Hamburg, Germany. This is how many militants got over to the United States undetected especially the lead hijackers Mohammed Atta who was on our “watch list”. He was the one who communicated with Osama Bin Laden over e-mail about when the attacks were going to take place. This was just the preparation of what is about to come the United States’ way.
From roughly 11:56 pm until 1 am the CIA annex was attacked by the same group. The militia attacked periodically using arms fire, and rocket¬-propelled grenades. While this was occurring, Local Libyans search the Mission Facility and located the Ambassador. They then transported the ambassador to a local hospital. After numerous attempts to revive the Ambassador, he was announced deceased due to smoke inhalation. At 1:15 am, a seven-man U.S. security team arrived from Tripoli at Benghazi airport. They immediately began negotiations with the local Libyan soldiers for security and vehicle 's to the Annex. At 4:30 A.M. after three hours of tough negotiations with the Libyan officials, they came to an agreement.
