One of the most challenging obstacles I have had to overcome is balancing school work and recreational activities. As a high school student right now the most important thing is to have good grades in school. On the other hand, it is also important to have fun by spending time with friends and participating in sports at school. Can there be a balance between school and sports? Yes, there can but it is a daily struggle to make time for both things.
School is not only about going to classes from 8:45am to 4:00pm. Extra time and extra effort is needed in order to complete projects and homework assignments. During this school year and in the previous years I have made the time to stay for tutorials not only after school but on weekends at times.
Some students choose to do after school activities, and then on top of that they have homework. Finding down time on top of a busy night full of homework is hard. With homework, there is
The impact of preserving sports in high schools has been surrounded by much controversy as people suspect that it is the reason behind the poor academic achievement of students. Opponents to high school sports feel that allowing athletics to be a part of schools sidetracks the focus of the student body, which goes completely against the main purpose of schools. Indeed, this assertion is completely true and based upon plentiful evidence. High school sports undoubtedly come at the expense of student academic achievement since they divert the attention of students away from academics and they come with far too many financial costs, both of which incur negative impacts on the academics within a school. The bottomline is that sports are harming the education of students, so a school must make the decision between composing quality sports teams or providing high level academics; both of these choices simply cannot occur simultaneously.
In today's century it is essential to have an education to enhance your job and provide a comfortable future for your family. After having children we realize that education is significant in order to succeed. While working takes a lot of time away from family, adding school to your schedule makes it difficult to spend quality time with your children. The problem most people face with balancing school, work, and family is being an excellent student, an outstanding employee, and a caring parent all in the same day.
Those opposing school sports argue that sports take up valuable time needed for studying and academics.
Therefore, Everett Community College should extend advanced Mathematics/Science tutoring hours on the weekend. The Annex Center does not only help students to finish their homework and test review faster, but also save time for other courses’ work as well. When students struggle with a problem, they are most likely understand the concept, but left out an important information that connects all other clues to form a complete solution. Instead of struggles for hours to review for the test, seek help from an expert is always a better solution. Once the tutors point the information out, they are good to go. In addition, the tutoring provides students a safe, distraction-free, and motivation workspace. People usually get off task by outside distraction (electronics, conservation, noise, etc.) Even if they are alone in an absolutely quiet environment, distractions are hard to avoid. However, studies have shown that if everyone around you is working, you will most likely focus on your work as well. When all students in the center motivate each other and focus on their work, they can finish their jobs faster. Therefore, students will have more time for other classes’ work, and boost their overall grade
I will be tutoring as part of my community hours. I will be tutoring Vivica since she is having difficulties with her math class in school. Since she was having difficulties I decided to be her tutor and do my best to improve her skills and knowledge so her grade could increase. Linnete is Vivica’s mom. She currently lives in Cleona, PA near the “Big Lots” store. I started doing my community hours on October 19, 2015. The reason of why I decided to tutor Vivica is because Linnete is a single mom of two kids and she doesn’t have too much time to sit and study with Vivica due to work. I wanted to help this family by sharing my math skills, knowledge and my time to help improve Vivica’s education.
Students are people who study at school or college. At school students, lives are divided into two sections such as academic and athletic. During high school, sports become a good portion of students’ lives. Some parents send their children to study at school and considers sports a distraction to studies. A true sport requires energy, time, and determination..There are a few disadvantages to playing sports in High School but there are even more benefits to playing sports in High School. Playing sports in high school helps improve academic performance, has physical and psychological benefits for women, and helps build social skills.
One of the biggest debates in high school athletic programs is should a talented student participate in multiple sports while still having classwork, or is it too much of a burden on them to cause a lot of stress? As many do not know, Jackie Robinson was a star athlete in four sports at the University California, Los Angeles; football, basketball, long jump and of course, baseball. I, on the other hand am just a two sport athlete. I play tennis in the fall and basketball in the winter. The barrier that I face is not only trying to perform excellent on both courts, but in the classroom as well. Through commitment and determination, I've managed to push through.
High school can be stressful time for many. Many students look for a way to relieve their stress. Many students turn to sports to help them. I know this feeling first hand because I have experienced a moment of overwhelming stress and I turned to sports. Many of my friends have had a moment like this also and I have helped them turn to sports or working
There have been frequent debates on whether or not academies should keep sports in their after-class events schedule. Many studies have shown that physical activities often get in the way of important schoolwork. Therefore, in order to help students achieve more in their academic lives, schools should eliminate sports programs to conserve funds, allow additional time for kids to study, and provide teenagers with extra hours of sleep.
Ever since I was a small adolescent, I have been surrounded by sports and competition and I believe it has shaped me into who I am today. Growing up, my mom always made me focus on my academics while my dad made me focus on sports, which led to conflict between my parents deciding what aspect of life was more important. Trying to balance both academics and sports and trying to please both of my parents was very difficult, but I managed it pretty well until my junior year in high school, where my athletics increased and my grades decreased, which is not what I wanted.
Balance is a very important key for student athletes. School and sports are two fundamental aspects in my life. Teenagers struggle to maintain good grades, during their sports. A student must be able to balance school and sports.
Sports has been very`overly glorified in the US, now more then ever more and more money is being spent on football over math. Our society encourages sports, which isn't always a bad thing, but when the focus is only on the next football game, it's a distraction from what is important and the purpose of going to school; for learning and expanding kids critical thinking skills. when the world series is on almost everyone in America has their tv's switched to watch the two baseball teams go head to head. In a way those couple of hours can bring families and friends together, sitting on the couch eating chips and dip. This is how the mentality is for students in high schools all over the US- sports first and academic seconds. This is examined in “The case against high school sports” by Amanda Ridley which goes over the reasoning to focus more on academics then on sports. Do we really want to be a country that encourages playing sports over learning critical thinking skills? While it is true that sports are an outlet for several high school students, the reality is that as a whole, schools are investing way too much money into the sports program instead of education programs, therefore there should be a healthy balance between both academics and sports in American high schools.
Although school is very important in my life I made it a point to also be apart of different extracurricular activities throughout middle and high school. I first started off with sports in middle school when I played volleyball, basketball, and softball. Being only twelve or thirteen years old I realized that playing that many sports took a toll on my education so when I went to high school I only played volleyball, and now I have played for seven years. Playing sports has taught me how to manage my time wisely, take responsibility, and how to be a part of a team with one goal. My freshman year of high school my team went to sub-state in volleyball, which was in
Students aren’t getting the help and support they need. When tutoring or help is offered, some students don’t take advantage of it. So if we implement that extra help into their daily required schedule then they’ll all get the help they need. This would definitely improve performance levels at Anaheim Schools. In the special class, tutors for every subject even language electives should be available. Even if students don’t need help, they can utilize their time to study or read a book. Some students may even be capable of helping out their fellow peers. In order for students to improve, the classes actually need to be given to the students. Also, if the students get most of their homework done in class, then they won’t need to rush when they get home and will have more time to study and rest. Students shouldn’t have so much homework or not understand something and become stressed, so, “What the extra time does is allow for a more relaxed atmosphere” (Gladwell 10). When students are able to feel confident in their own learning capability & be stress-free then they’ll be more focused and determined. And if students don’t have a quiet place to do their homework at home, then they can get most of their homework in this period, it could be offered as the last period of the day so that, any questions they had about something in any of their classes that day, can be answered. Not only does more time make the students feel more confident in their learning, but it makes the teachers more confident in their teaching and the progress of their students. Any teacher would agree with Gladwell's statement when he says, “I think that an extended amount of time gives you a chance as a teacher to explain things and more time for the kids to sit and digest everything that’s going on-to review, to do things at a much slower pace.” (Gladwell 10) By allowing the students to ask more questions and to allow to teachers to go into deeper depths on the material, we are giving them what they need to grow successful and really understand what they’re learning. Marita is a student from a poor neighborhood, the school that was in her neighborhood wasn’t the best. But, at KIPP Academy, she was given an opportunity to receive an education of
