The NBA should definitely ban the hack-a-strategy which is where you purposely foul a bad free throw shooter to try to win the game also known as hack-a-shaq or hack-a-dwight. (named after Shaquille O’neal and Dwight Howard). Think about it this way would you rather be watching pro NBA player watch Deandre Jordan shoot free throws or pro NBA player Chris Paul throwing alley-oops up to Deandre Jordan.
My first reason why the nba should ban the hack-a-strategy is because it’s not basketball. Basketball is dribbling a ball and shooting a ball and passing, but when a team is using the hack-a-strategy it’s just shooting free throws and completely failing to make half of them. What’s your definition of basketball shooting free throws or something
In the BAA teams had unlimited time to shoot the basketball, in today’s NBA teams only have 24 seconds to shoot the basketball. Teams who player’s committed consecutive fouls would’ve gave a point to the opposing team, now when players commit fouls either the other team gets the ball, two free throws, or a player that has committed 6 fouls will get ejected from the game. A free throw is when a player that has been fouled takes either 1, 2, or 3 shots without any defenders trying to block him/her. Many players and coaches didn’t believe in jumping they thought “nothing good would come when player’s feet left the ground.” Basketball games were longer two each quarter was 12 minutes, now every quarter is 10 minutes not including timeouts or foul calls. Dr. Naismith came up with thirteen rules. While four out of the thirteen rules that he came up with, are no longer followed in today 's version of basketball, the nine that are left were slightly modified and are still in use today. The original thirteen rules are as follows:
Perhaps no sport was more influenced by the advent of television than professional basketball. From the earliest days of television, NBA officials realized the power of the medium and they realized that any chances they had for success were directly linked to their survival on television. Players and coaches alike were concerned with the way their game was presented on television, even during the league 's first decade on television. This made it clear that everyone in the NBA knew that league success was directly related to television. NBA officials also knew that in order to appeal to viewers, they would have to implement rules that would make the NBA product more viewer-friendly. In the early 1950s, the NBA suffered from the perception that it was a slow-paced game. This was due to the fact that in those days, if a team had the lead into the fourth quarter, it would "freeze the ball" and turn the game into a tedious foul-shooting exhibition. This style of play threatened the NBA 's survival
Intentional fouling is when a player fouls another player with the intent of putting them on the free throw line. This is called, “The Hack a Shaq technique,” because Hall of Fame player, Shaquille O’Neal, was often targeted with intentional fouls. Players are targeted with the Hack a Shaq technique when they do not shoot free throws efficiently. When a player shoots a low enough percentage from the free throw line, statistically they will not score as many points as if they were to shoot from the field. As you can see in the Appendix, seven of the top ten games with the most foul shots by a single player have been in the last ten years. Hack a Shaq is hurting the game of basketball because teams are using the strategy more and more. Hack a Shaq creates slow and unentertaining games, due to the increased number of free throws. First, I believe the NBA one and done rule should be banned because of a player's draft stock. Do you think a player ever dreams about being a 2nd round pick, No! An NBA player wants to be a first round pick. Some players have the honor of being coached by a legend John Calipari, or Mike Krzyzewski who have a combined 6 National Championships. In fact, these national championships are won by playing a tough, hard fought battle in a 64 team tournament called March Madness. According to NCAA.com. March Madness is one of the most watched events in history grabbing an average of 10.4 Million viewers
NBA was different level from college level basketball. Through practices, Stephen Curry learned how to release basketball in the fastest way. In order to improve the shots, science was added on top of Curry’s talent and effort. According to John Carter of Noah Basketball, “Curry’s shot is mathematically optimal.” (Cohen, “Stephen Curry's Science of Sweet Shooting.”)
Also, everyone was so against this style of play because they've never seen this before (Benjamin Morris). But contrary to popular belief, this aggressive play was actually a gameplan and was clearly working. Since this was the first anyone had seen this style of play, nobody know how to stop
I may smile a little bit more, but the way we play the game of basketball was exactly the same because we would do anything to win. We didn't care about scoring points. We cared about winning the game and making our teammates better. That's why we were able to change not only basketball but able to change the NBA too.”
The Jordan Rules written by Sam Smith, gives an inside look on Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls which sparked some controversy when released. At the time people where shocked at the things Smith was saying, such as Jordan's problem with gambling, his outrageous behavior and bullying towards his teammates. There was also the blind eye of the coaches, team management, and league officials were turning to the behavior of the sports transcendent megastar. (Pacejmiller.com).
Somehow, someway, they all received that memo. At some point, all these players figured out that putting the ball in the basket will help guide them to college and having long careers in the
In fact, under Alvin Gentry’s offensive system, Anthony Davis is involved in a good amount of pick and roll, pop or slide plays. For example the ball handing guard has the ball behind the three point line he called for a screen once the screen is set he goes over the top of it if there is an open lane to the basket he will attack the basket if not the big man will roll if there is an open lane to the basket if his defender is defending the paint or trying to stop the ball handing guard from attacking the basket, he will pop or slide for a mid range jumper or three pointer. On occasion Anthony Davis decides he is going to post up his defender in the mid to high post area and either shoots a turnaround jumper faces up and shoot over his
I don’t think you can consider it “wrong” for a team to use strategy fouling, they’re just using the rules that were put there by someone else to their advantage. However, I do believe it can be more important depending on the sport that is being played as Dixon said in a game like soccer one extra point can mean winning the whole game whereas in basketball an extra few points might give one team an edge but it is hardly going to be the majority of points scored.(p. 170-71) So it makes sense that in soccer it is a much bigger deal and they do more things to discourage it than they do in basketball. Simon stated that “Restorative skills are those employed to get the game back on track after a constitutive rule has been violated”(p. 221) As long as the sport has the necessary restorative skills to right the game after a constitutive skill was violated then the player should have the right to use it to their
There has been talk about the NBA adding a 4-point line but it has a lot of people questioning would it benefit the NBA. In the beginning when the three point line was established in 1979 teams did not even strategize for it, they thought it was a gimmick and it was no use. In the first season it was being used, team’s only averaged about 3 3-pointers per game but in the 2016 season teams average about 24 threes per game and it has become a vital part of their offense. The 3-point line is 23.9 feet away from the basket and 22 feet away from the basket in the corner. The talk about adding a 4-point line has been in the NBA for a while. If the 4-point line were to be added it would be 4-10 feet away from the 3-point line. The commissioner, Adam
You’ve heard it repeated ad nauseam, but it’s inescapable just how much outside shooting has revolutionized the NBA. It’s supercharged the pace of the game, placed a premium on ball movement and motion offenses, and forced to a whole new generation to redefine how they approach their positions and develop their
Players should get banned for touching other players because its called cheating and if they just get kicked out of one game they
