After a grueling long primary for both major parties, the Republican and Democratic Parties, Hillary Clinton emerged as the favorite-to-win the 2016 election, and several magazines stating before Election Day that Clinton had already won. On November 8th, Newsweek released “125,000 copies” of magazines with the title of “Madam President: Hillary Clinton’s historic journey to the White House” (Greenslade). During the Democratic Primaries, Hillary Clinton’s campaign had already decided on Tim Kaine to be her Vice-President and decided whom to pick for her Cabinet. Additionally, Hillary Clinton was endorsed by The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, The Washington Post, and a dozen of other newspapers, and endorsed by hundreds of politicians, celebrities, businessmen, and activists, thus, a great sum of people had confidence that she would win the 2016 Presidential Election (Berke, Harrington). The day before Election Day, pollsters from various organizations, such as New York Times, FiveThirtyEight, and the Huffington Post, predicted Hillary Clinton would win the Presidency of the United States by overwhelming margins, such as 85%, 71%, and 98% respectively. (Katz).
When the results of voting on Election Day were released, Republican Nominee Donald J. Trump won the presidency with 306 electoral votes and 61,201,031 popular votes, compared to Clinton’s 232 electoral votes and 62,523,126 popular votes. Although Donald Trump lost the popular vote, he had won where it counted,
Barack Obama has impacted America in many ways since he was elected the 44th president on November 4th, 2008. The first African American president of the United States has taken the world by storm and done many great things for this country. Barack Obama has accomplished many things in his personal life, and also as the president of the United States. Obama has affected the world financially, economically, and rebuilt our image as a nation.
Barack obama if famous for many things i'll explain some of the reason why. Barack Obama was the president for 8 years from 2009 to 2017. He’s famous for being one of the longest presidents running. In my opinion he was the most intelligent president we've ever had. Did you know that he has a nickname Barry? I picked Barack obama because he has been one of the best presidents of the United States of America. I also picked him because I wanted to know more about Barry.
To secure the win the candidate must pass 270 of the electoral votes and even though seemed to be ahead of the race having more popular votes Trump passed 270 electoral votes just hours after the polls closed. Donald won 279 of the electoral votes while Hillary only won 228. Regardless of whether Trump had more or less of the popular votes it all comes down to the electoral votes. Although Trump has made many racist comments and angered many Hispanics he surprisingly won a lot of their votes which helped his victory with the electorate vote; As for African American voter the electorate vote went down slightly.(7 reasons) Compared to Obama Hillary just didn't do as well as he did when it comes to electoral votes and the popular vote. Trump on the other hand won the states of Florida, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Iowa, and Ohio, all which voted for Obama both elections. Trump was not only lucky by winning over states who were expected to be won by Hillary but got a lot of help when Hillary's email incident sparked outrage in many
It is ambiguous as to how President Barrack Obama shapes our politics in terms of our political regime, but it can be determined through the present outcomes of his leadership today. In The Politics Presidents Make, by Stephen Skowronek, describes that there is a life-cycle of inaugurated presidents through the history of the United States. A political regime is defined as a full cycle of presidents that induce change in our politics until it is repeated again. Through this, it is possible to determine where President Obama would stand in our political time. Skowronek also mentions four leadership categories in which past presidents are placed in: politics of reconstruction, politics of disjunction, politics of
This recent election that took place on November 8, 2016 included candidate Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. Towards the beginning of the election the results seemed that Hillary would win and was taking
In present day today, President Donald trump won the election, not by popular vote. Instead, Donald trump won the presidential election through an Electoral College process. Also, in 2000 we have George W. Bush who received the greatest number of electoral votes, and thus won the presidency, didn’t win the popular vote. Electoral
Over the recent weeks, I have had an opportunity to learn a lot of leadership values and how he applied them smoothly throughout his presidency. In the same way, a various variety of leadership topics also allows one to experience the practice of most leadership theories and principles. For the following discussion, the objective is that I choose one known leader in society and explain why he claimed himself to be not only a citizen of the United States but a “Citizen of the world.” Using many supportive detail and opinions, to explore his leadership. Therefore, the paper focuses on Former President Barack Obama, the 44th president of the United States of America. This choice stands out because in the most difficult time when America was beaten to its knees, Former President Barack Obama outstood courage, intelligence, and courage that bought us back to our feet during the most difficult time of the century after his victory. Despite having been the first American president in the US with African roots, Former President Barack Obama has been acknowledged as one of the most valued and honored presidents in the history of the United States. Upon being elected as president for two terms, politician, turned into motivator and public speaker to the world. A man with a big smile, and height of 6 feet one inches tall has won the hearts of billions of people nationwide which makes him an outstanding president in my opinion.
Even though Donald Trump had almost 15 percent more electors than her, Clinton beat Trump in the popular vote by around 2.5 million voters.
On June 22 2016 president Obama a new bill placing stronger regulations on everyday common chemicals like detergents, paint thinners and cleaners. This new law was passed by congress and the head of chemical safety and former us senator Frank R. Lautenberg along with a very rare and uncommon bipartisan vote. The 21st century act will be updating the former toxic substance control act which was instated during the Gerald Ford administration back in the mid 1970s, under this new law the Environmental protection Agency (EPA) Is given a much larger oversight and stronger tools to further monitor those chemicals which may cause cancer and any other possible health complications in both children and adults.
“The media's the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power. Because they control the minds of the masses” (Malcolm X). In 1797, there was no cameras, television, radio, telephones, or social media. There was not any entertainment value on campaigns the media could potentially exploit, but how could the American citizens formulate opinions on presidential candidates? How did they come to understand about their policies or stances on certain issues? Candidates would write to columns in newspaper or use printing presses to release booklets with their policies and other issues they had to address. They would talk to the public at meetings or conventions. Journalists would write down what they said and wrote a news article about it. They did not mask themselves with over exaggerated personas or make outrageous statements just to gather media attention because there was not the
I believe the president, President Obama, has gone beyond his boundaries on being the president of the United States. This means that I am for the motion that Obama has past his boundaries as being a president. President Obama has set off a war without the congress anal consent, which was stated clearly in the Constitution. “Article II, Section 3 of the Constitution states that the president “shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed,”. “A duty Obama flouted by taking unilateral action to suspend the employer mandate of Obamacare, and through his executive orders on immigration.” The Framers have separated the three branches by checks and balances, which needs to be followed. However, following exertive orders, many hate being told
As Democrats consider Hillary Clinton’s candidacy for the second time, women are wrestling with a difficult question: whether they have an obligation to get behind someone who is closer than anyone has ever been to becoming the first female president.
In the Democratic primaries Hillary Clinton can expect to receive little competition as it is much less oversaturated then the Republican race with her only opposition being Bernie Saunders. In the presidential race Hillary Clinton is clearly the best known candidate as American voters have already been familiarized with her from her time serving as First Lady to President Bill Clinton during his time in office, as well as her time serving as the United States Secretary of state. This is not her first time being a candidate in the primaries as she ran in the 2008 presidential
Barack Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on August 4th, 1961. He went to Harvard Law School. After his graduation, continued his legal work as a civil rights lawyer and a professor teaching constitutional law at the University of Chicago. He was elected to the Illinois State Senate in 1996. He served there for three terms (1996-2004). Later on, he started his campaign in 2007 for the presidential election in 2008. He won the presidential election against John McCain, his Republican opponent and started serving in the office in January 20, 2009. He became the 44th President of The United States of America. He is more well-known for being the first African-American who ever served in The White House.
My favorite political memory was in October of 2008 because Senator Barack Obama came to Springfield and held a campaign rally. I went to the rally with my aunt and uncle and I was extremely excited despite the fact that it was held at a stadium and it was freezing outside. I sat very close to the stage and I was fortunate enough to meet Senator Obama and shake his hand after his speech was over. This was my favorite political memory because I met the future president and hearing his speech in person was so powerful and electrifying. It really made me interested in what he was saying.
