America is called the land of opportunity, the land to see and to make change. Barack Hussein Obama, is a perfect example. HIs mother Ann Dunham, was born in Kansas. His father, Barack Obama Sr, was born in Kenya. He was chose for a special program to attend a college in The United States. He studied in the University of Hawaii, where they met. They got married in 1961 and had Barack in that same year. Many years later, in 2008 he would be elected as the United State’s first African-American president. After so many years, as a nation we took a step forward by electing our first black president, not only for one term but for two. On August 28, 1963 Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous “ I have a dream” speech. He said his dream would be to see an African American become president someday. Even though King wasn't there to see it, the dream was fulfilled on January 20, 2009. Since before his term, Barack Obama was already doing a lot for his people. For society in general. His first steps began at Columbia University. After he received his bachelor degree in 1983, he transferred to Harvard Law School. Later, he would teach law at the University of Chicago. However, he is responsible for removing sexual orientation as a barrier to serve in the military. This is of great importance because many were restricted of serving for their country. Since Obama ran for his first presidential term, he always spoke of unity and acceptance among each others, with this it really showed how much he cares about equality. And as soon as he took office he helped us recover from the biggest economic crisis since the Great Depression. Unemployment dropped a dramatic ten percent to five percent. For the benefit of most Americans, he also increased tax rates on the wealthiest people for fairer tax rates like in the Reagan
