Baseball Success
Baseball is a difficult sport to play all around. Not that all sports are easy but baseball has it’s own unique difficulties. For one the process to get to the major leagues is a long difficult road. A lot of different things can affect your success. There are a few factors that cause a player to make it far in this career.
The three different factors that cause baseball players make it to the MLB include, hard work and determination, physical strength and natural skill as well as, making it to and playing well in the minor leagues
The first reason baseball players make it to the MLB is hard work and determination. Hard work tops everything else. If a player is not that

When athletes play baseball their body needs to be in top physical condition. According to the article on bleacher report.com, “Last offseason, Bryce Harper would wake up at 4:50 a.m. four times a week and would be lifting weights by 5:30 a.m., according to James Wagner of The Washington Post. The left fielder 's workouts would run between 90 minutes and two hours, and there was no time to rest in between sets” (Buscheck n.p.) This article shows just how much strength matters. If Bryce Harper, a major league player thinks that he should be working out and getting stronger, then someone who has not made it to the highest level yet should be working just as hard or harder to become stronger. Players also need to be fast if they want to play in the major leagues. Speed is extremely important when it comes to running the bases or going for a ball in the field. The average times for players in the major leagues, according to this article, for the sixty yard run are: “6.89 seconds for outfielders, 6.97 seconds for infield, and 7.09 seconds for catchers. Pitchers were not tested.” (Coleman 1). So if a player wanted to make it far, their goal according to their position should be faster than these numbers, because these numbers are averages, and a player should always want to be above average. Even though the pitchers were not tested for their speed, as a pitcher players should try and be at least faster than their catcher. So when players go to work out they should
Thus is the nature of baseball, a fickle game wrought with tradition, the foremost of which is the iron clad law mandating that the game is cruel and will take away as freely as it gives. My father always told me, “Baseball is a game of errors - the best hitters fail seven out of ten times - the key to success is knowing how to deal with the failure.” It is this aspect of the game, its want to frustrate and demoralize the player, that I think has driven most of my
Baseball has always been a game of numbers. Fans of the game have grown up being able to recite them by heart; Ted Williams’.406 batting average, Joe DiMaggio’s 56 game hitting streak, Babe Ruth’s 714 home runs. These numbers hold a special place in the history of the game. Statistics such as batting average, wins, home runs, and runs batted in have always been there to tell us who the best players are. Your favorite player has a .300 batting average? He’s an all-star. He hit 40 home runs and batted in 120 runs? That’s a Most Valuable Player Award candidate. Your favorite team’s best pitcher won 20 games? He’s a Cy Young Award contender. These statistics have been used to evaluate player performance
In the game of baseball more than any other sport, you really have to focus and think about what you’re doing on every single play. Of course there are parts of the game that become somewhat natural, but baseball is a game of fundamentals. You have to always be on top of your game and one step ahead of the curve, no pun intended. Every play contains different situations, which call for you to do an assortment of different things. You have to be thinking of what it is you’re going to do if the ball is hit to you, and what you do if hit to any of the other eight of your teammates on the field. Have you ever felt on top of your game, but for some odd reason you just couldn’t focus and preform at the best ability that you know you’re capable of? That’s what happens many times in baseball. You really have to focus and know what you’re doing wrong, and what adjustments to make to fix it. More than all other sports one little odd or unusual thing you start doing or change in your mechanics has a huge effect on the amount of production and performance out on that diamond. While hitting, throwing, or catching the ball, the simple extra movement or step you’re taking can cause a hundredth of a second difference in your throw, swing, or pitch, but this game is a game of seconds and that slight movement is the difference between a homerun or a ground ball, an amazing play in the field and an error, a strikeout or a ball
Professional baseball players have a season with 162 games before post season. Baseball players aren't the biggest, the strongest, or the fastest. A baseball player can be any size and that is what makes the game so special. Anyone can be a baseball player if they put in the work to do so. However, baseball is not a sport one can just start playing and expect to be exceptional at. Baseball requires players to be in tremendous
Thesis: The Fundamentals of baseball can result in a successful pitcher is proper mechanics, good arm motion to hit your target and lots of flexibility/mobility that can result in high velocity meaning speed.
Not only are professional baseball players an inspiration; they are also leaders. They have risked life and limb on the field; they inspire us to be better and strive for excellence. For many fans these athletes are
Baseball has been part of American history for well over 150 years now. It is considered to be America’s pastime, meaning it is what people loved to do in their off time back in the late 1800s and early 1900s. Baseball was invented by Abner Doubleday in Cooperstown, New York in 1839. Back then baseball was much different than today. Different rules, balls, and equipment than in today’s age. As baseball developed things changed such as the rules and equipment. Better equipment was put into place to help enhance the performance of the ball players. Baseball has become a sport of scouting. More and more scouts come to watch kids play in college and high school in hopes to find that one player that would be
“Going, Going, Gone, Home Run!” everyone knows what this means when an announcer says it. The game of baseball is a different sport, unlike basketball and football; you do not necessarily need strength to be dominant. So, why are steroids a big issue in baseball? Steroids, in particular, anabolic steroids, build up cellular tissue or muscle. However, they do not give you the necessary skills to play the game. I am almost certain the world’s strongest man could not hit a home run on a major league field, so why punish those who have used steroids? Steroids are not like magic and transform and average man
It takes a tremendous number of hours, days, years of work to get to the MLB.
Have you ever wondered how baseball players are able to crush 400 foot homeruns? It takes years and years to perfect a baseball swing to be able to do that. Swinging a bat and hitting a baseball is a lot more difficult than most people think. The pros make it look so easy because they have to perfect many mechanics just to hit a ball hard on the sweet spot of the bat. “Hitting is the single most difficult thing to do in sport.” this coming from Ted Williams, one of the greatest hitters of all time. Hitting a baseball requires more mechanical precision compared to other sports (Williams).
In baseball a common factor for determining the quality of a player is batting average. (# of hits/# of bats) This statistic helps to show a player's ability to successfully make contact with the ball, which leads to RBI’s (runs batted
The game of baseball has been argued to be the number one game in America and also around the world. Respectively the game is also known as “America’s pastime” had over 14 million people in the U.S. alone watching the World Series in 20151. Due to the growing popularity of baseball throughout the world the players of Major League Baseball (MLB) have become more diverse. Since 1950 when baseball started to grow in popularity the attendance per game has risen over 40%2.
The A's recent success is attributed to the innovative approach taken by Billy Beane in assembling a baseball team with a very limited amount of financial resources. Billy Beane has built a successful ball club because he has found an efficient and cost effective way of measuring baseball talent thus essentially creating a loophole in this unfair game because winning percentage is a result of talent not
“Baseball was, is and always will be to me the best game in the world” This quote is from one of the greatest baseball players of all time. The great Babe Ruth said these words that apply to my life in the same ways it applied to his. I know a lot of people experience this life changing and incredibly tough game in the same way I do. I know this as a fact because I can see the way other players act when they are around a baseball field. Some completely change the way they act just so they will be seen and noticed by scouts of the pro and college level. The shortness of breath, cotton mouth, and jittery legs are some of the characteristics I’ve experienced playing this game. I’ve experienced these feelings at the best tournament in the country.
