Informative Speech
Topic: How to Properly Throw a Baseball
General Purpose: Inform the audience
Specific Purpose: To inform my audience about three key points on properly throwing.
Thesis: The Fundamentals of baseball can result in a successful pitcher is proper mechanics, good arm motion to hit your target and lots of flexibility/mobility that can result in high velocity meaning speed.
Introduction
A. Attention Getter:
1. Hi class today I will be disusing on how to properly throw a baseball (throw to Luis) We see these days that many young kids want to play the game of baseball but more importantly who wants to learn the mechanics. Id say that be the older kids especially ones in high school or higher.
B. Reason to Listen:
2.

3. Also making sure you have a good grip on the baseball and placing your fingers on the “horseshoe” with both index fingers being perpendicular to one another
4. The ideal purpose of holding this is either to have all fingers touching all four laces or just only two and with a light grip
Transition into my next point: After discussing the proper ways to hold a baseball I will now discuss the proper steps in order to do all of this such as the proper mechanics. (Discuss PowerPoint Picture)
*Looking at the PowerPoint provided by pictures by John Guido and Sherry Werner in their article “You need stronger legs to pitch then we thought” this image describes the 10-step process I will be explaining for you today
They also explain “During this mechanic Process both legs are vitally important in order to produce and redirect the necessary force. In my humble opinion we should place a strong emphasis on the deceleration component of the pitching mechanics with the use of some eccentric single leg work”
1. Wind up or even the stretch
2. Knee Up
3. Stride
4. Foot Contact with ground
5. Arm Cocking Backwards (Arm Acceleration)
6. Reach that 90 degree angle with your arm
7. Then we come down to the Arm Deceleration
8. Release Point
9. Follow Through
10. Repeat
*John Guido and Sherry Werner make a point that “The stride leg functions to dynamically stabilize the hip and knee joints in a single leg stance to maintain standing posture for
Step one- Get appropriate equipment such as baseball(s),baseball field, baseball glove that fits on your hand (none dominate), a person to catch for you (optional) if you do have someone catching be safe and wear proper catchers gear if possible.
IV. After you have played catch with the glove, now you must store it properly
From your backswing, , rotate your torso and swing your arms toward the ball to make contact with the ball.
Transition: Now that you know what equipment to use, I will explain the proper approach when bowling.
“Next up the right fielder Auuuuusstin Meeeehhhhrrrr” belows out of the speakers at full blast as I approach the plate. Feeling loose I ease into the batter's box sinking my cleats deep into the soft dirt where I can get a solid stance. Stretching my bat across the plate showing the pitcher how much reach I have tempting him to throw one in the zone. Weight is on my back leg as I slowly bounce the bat in my hands anticipating the first pitch. The pitcher begins his windup and I stop moving the bat and focus on the ball.
Baseballs are hit into the outfield for base hits and extra base hits on a regular basis and the need for proper mechanics to accurately
There are many things to pitching in baseball, such as how to grip the ball and the movements of your body.
A batter’s swing is based on the quality of his or her mechanics. In baseball, a lot of the mechanics revolve around physics principles; for example, Newton’s First Law of Motion, an object will stay in motion unless acted upon by another force and Newton's Third Law of Motion, every action has an opposite and equal reaction. Begin by slightly lifting the leading leg and stepping towards the pitcher, stretching the hamstrings and storing them with potential energy. Make sure that the batters hips do not move with the step because it will have repercussions on later movements. When planting the foot, the toes should remain facing the plate even throughout the swing for as long as possible as well as having the leading leg straight. When the timing is right, knowledge developed with practice and pitch recognition, violently rotate the hips and core towards the pitcher. Naturally the batter's hands will rotate with the body; however, barrel must stay back for as long as possible to increase the bat speed translating directly into power. To do this aim the knob at the ball while rotating. Follow through with the bat over the shoulder, giving the ball more
The first thing we did was the tilt jump to the front and then the tilt jump with our left leg tucked across the floor. For me that was easy since we have been practicing the tilt for almost a week already. After the tilt across the floor Ms. Gee added more steps such as the , retire position , and small altitude jump. The first three times I got confused on the arm placement, but after that I stay for a minute after class and got the order of the steps.
When most people think of pitching they think of a person hurling a 5 oz. ball with 216 red stitches as hard as they can from 60’6”. Well they are right, but there is so much more to it. When I looked at pitching I saw situations, fastballs, curveballs, and change-ups. When physics was introduced to me I saw much more to baseball. I see
If there is a runner running to another base throw it too that base. If you are going after a popfly, get under the ball and catch it as it drops. If the ball is to the side of you. Dive and get it. If you get the out trough the ball to the pitcher.
Another part of the human body that is a prime example of bipedalism in the human skeletal system are the knees. The knees have, over time, been enlarged to better support an increased amount of bodyweight, much like the human foot. The degree of knee extension has decreased. Aside from all of that, the changing pattern of the knee joint angle oh humans shows a small extension peak, which we refer to as the “double knee action”. Double knee action decreases energy that is lost by vertical movement from the center of gravity. When humans walk, we walk with our knees kept straight, but our thighs bent inwards so that the knees are almost directly under the rest of our bodies, rather than out to the side as in the case of our ancestral hominids. Our knees do this to aid for balance.
A wise man once said “You can have all the physical ability in the world, but you still have to know the fundamentals” (Fundamentals Quotes). The greatest and most talented players in the world still have to learn and know the fundamentals to play the game. Fundamentals are the basics, just the simple basics of the sport, and how to play the game. The important fundamentals of baseball include hitting, fielding, throwing, and also base running.
Second, no matter how perfect the stance, unless a batter has good eye contact, a high batting average will never be possible. A pitcher can put a large number of different spins on the ball. For example, the curve ball, the slider, the fast ball, and the knuckle ball move differently. A batter needs to watch the ball from the time the pitcher releases it until the batter brings the bat around and through the ball. A batter cannot hit the ball unless one knows what direction the ball is traveling. Sally, a teammate at Macon College in 1993, was always striking out because at the last minute before swinging the bat she would close her eyes. After being convinced she could keep her eyes open while swinging, she was able to hit a game-winning double in our final game of the
These directions are for a right-handed player. A left-handed player would use the same technique, but for each
