Bass fishing can easily be compared to art and ballet because of poise, color, and technique.

What does art and bass fishing have in common? Artists use common tools such as wax colored pencils, crayons, pastels, charcoal, and even markers to promote the outlines of a figure against a background. Bass Fishermen have a large palate of colors at their fingertips while fishing. Their use of color is one of the main skills of bass fishing. The most important aspect of a lure is color. Ask a man that is not a bass fisherman for help choosing a color and it would be, “Hey what do you think about this green?” the response would be nice; whereas a bass fisherman would say: “eh that’s watermelon green”.

Once a bass is hooked, it may make a hard run to the opposing end of the boat, causing the fisherman to run to the other end; often passing his partner heading the other way with the net. The two fishermen fly through the air like dancers on a stage to reach positions in hope to land a fish.
Based on the time of year, there are many techniques used to catch a bass. The most common and favorite among most is the jig and trailer used year round, accompanied by a pitch cast. These movements alone are beautiful in their simplicity. Some who have mastered the pitch cast put a jig and trailer in an area the size of saucer from 50-60 feet away with little to no splash. The pitch involves a slight sway backwards, then a smooth step forward as you use your wrist to swing the tip of the rod forward toward your target. You release the bait from your hand at the precise moment and the bait will glide slowly just barely above the surface of the water to enter quietly at the spot that was being pitched
