Having Halloween just around the corner the horror genre has been on demand. What is a horror genre? Horror is defined as being “an intense feeling of fear, shock, or disgust” and genre is defined as being “a category of artistic composition, as in music or literature, characterized by similarities in form, style, or subject matter” according to Oxford Dictionary. Therefore a horror genre is a horror film in one of the many categories in a genre that makes the audience feel fear, shock or disgust. Many of the films that everyone watches today are now called movies. Since scary movies have been requested, Netflix has even added a “Halloween favorites” on its search bar.

If a high school girl can claim they have never been bullied or saw a bullying interaction, they are lying. World wide, girls have to live up to people's standards on how to be so called “perfect”. Many stories and magazines have had stories about girls living up to being perfect. In the movie Mean Girls, girls can relate to the characters and think of situations that happen in their own schools. Girl bullying is also portrayed in the novel Speak. Melinda, the main character, was bullied her entire freshman year of high school because she called the cops at one party. In real life and in both these narratives, the authors use situation from high school to show how bullying is growing more than we realize.

Every since John Ford’s 1939 western Stagecoach, the West has been portrayed in art, entertainment, and literature as a desolate arid landscape of mountains and deserts. The story or movie backdrop was usually set in America’s colonial era and often included small frontier towns with saloons, the local jail, and ranches on the outskirts of town. The main characters were ranchers, handsome gun slinging wayward cowboys donning Stetsons, savage Indians raging havoc against settlers, and outlaw gangs roaming the prairies holding up banks and railroads. Though these filmmakers are at the top of the food chain in their respective works, some of their works aren’t all distinguishable. Every year Hollywood produces many films that all look the same. What I mean to say is: when you watch a movie made by one of the figures mentioned above, you can’t always tie that movie to them.

Though it may not be a national holiday, America loves Halloween, and intends to have a scary good time this year. In fact, more than half of the country - 157 million people - intend to celebrate Oct. 31 this year, according to the National Retail Federation.

Now onto the next thing that makes Halloween such a great holiday, the costumes. For example, take into account all the scary costumes and just appreciate the effort some of these people go through in order to terrify you.By scary costumes I mean things from famous horror icons like Jason, Pennywise (older or modern version of Pennywise),Ghost face and many more. Then there are people’s own horrifying creations like dressing as ghosts or zombies. Moreover we can’t forget about the cute costumes. I mean there has to be something magical behind a night where you see a pink superhero bunny and Freddy Krueger just walking down the same street. Throughout my Halloween experience I have seen at least 3 ducks, 2 puppies ,1 bunny and a pumpkin suit, these outfits were actually worn by young children.Without a doubt the colorful balance of all different kinds of costumes truly helps Halloween pull it all together and be greatly enjoyed.
