Even with the drastically decreased crime rates, Batman watches over Gotham, anticipating a new threat. Just before his death, the Joker, managed to infect patients of Gotham’s hospitals with his infected blood. Even though a lot of them were cured, some of them started to look and act like the Joker. Determined to find a cure, Batman assigns Robin to watch over the
The main conflicts in the world of The Dark Knight Returns revolve around escalating crime in Gotham city and forces of the authority attempting to control it. The authority should be a moral force and represent justice. The figures that represent the authority should be selfless and work only to promote the integrity of law and order. Authority proves to be contradictory in Miller’s novel as the authoritative figures express qualities of vigilantism and overall moral ambiguity.
The air smelled sharply of chemicals, and smoke. You can hear sirens from the GCPD cars. The sound blaring from being so close to them was reading to the point when I heard my being called I missed it.
“It’s not who I am underneath, but what I do that defines me.” Said by Bruce Wayne, explains how he feels about what he does as Batman. His actions as Batman prove him as an anti-hero. Christopher Nolan portrays Batman as an antihero through isolation of the character, and a dim setting of the movie.
Joseph Campbell detailed his theory of the monomyth in his book, The Hero with a Thousand Faces. The theory of the monomyth or Hero Cycle is that there is a way of telling a story that is hardwired into our brains and that across cultures myths will resemble each other due to this internal plot. The book shows how Humans in general prefer to, and find it hard not to, tell a narrative not as a hero’s journey with an underlying theme. If analyzed most books, TV shows, and movies are played out corresponding to the monomyth. The 2005 release of Batman Begins depicts this through a variety of events and then resolves with the underlying theme of facing your
Is Batman a hero? Batman is a hero because he follows the hero cycle. The hero cycle that batman follows is easily split into 3 sections, departure, initiation, and return.
The fear was so intense I got nauseous! It's was last year in band when after all the bands hard work payed off we got to go to six flags and when the day came I had a group of friends called the Batman Squad. Baring a readjustment when the actual numbers are released (an extremely common occurrence), The Boss has successfully upended the winning ways of Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
Iron Man and Batman are examples of heroes who do not possess super powers. Even though they do not have super powers, both heroic characters use their wealth in order to build high-tech technologies and weapons. Iron man and Batman share the same mission to protect innocent citizens from harm and prevent injustice. Iron Man and Batman have similarities and they differ in terms of their background, ability to fight crimes, and how their image is portrayed. Batman’s alter ego is Bruce Wayne, a wealthy business man who inherited his family’s company, Wayne enterprise, from his deceased parents.
Barry Allen (Flash) faces trouble because he is a superhero. Crisis is the theme in Flashpoint because it’s a part of his life by him being a superhero, he faces villains in his everyday life. Barry Allen the Flash went back in time and stopped Eobard Thawne the Reverse Flash from killing his mother. This event caused a drastic shift in the time continuum that not only caused him not to become the flash, but other superheroes lives changed as well. Superman for example became a lab experiment and Bruce Wayne died instead of his parents which lead to his father Thomas Wayne to become Batman.
The artistic representation of the Batman myth is an important cultural artifact of our time because it represents modern society's thirst for heroic ideals in popular entertainment. Since his creation, readers and viewers have admired Batman's unique ability to battle villainy, transcend the law and administer justice. As cultivators of the noir genre in film as well as in literature, Americans have always identified with this enigmatic hero, who exists on the margins of society and yet represents one of the largest corporations in the world. The evolution of Batman in particular and the superhero genre in general (from comic book to television to film and back again) has seen in the latest adaptation from Christopher Nolan's Batman revamp a veritable tilting point for the character once known as the World's Greatest Detective. This paper will analyze why Batman is an important cultural artifact of our day, how he came into being, what he means for society, and how he will be treated in the future.
Batman is a well-known superhero of all time, due to his comics, Tv shows, movies and video games. The reason he is so unique is because he is human, he has no superpowers or special abilities. Batman is an ordinary man who does superhuman actions with his ability to outsmart his enemies. What makes him stand out, even more, is Batman’s ability to know the difference between justice and revenge. He brings justice to his city by fighting crime at night and leaving the criminals for the cops, he does not kill them. “Batman is proof you don’t need superpowers to be a superhero…” (DC Comics) Just like the names of the heroes of classical literature, Batman is a name American pop culture has not let fade away, from his symbol in the night sky to
Many people believe that the act of courage lies within each individual, and these acts of courage can be brought out by three possible cause. First, provocation. Often times this is seen in movies where the villain kidnaps and threatens to kill the hero’s family. More often than not, the hero finds it within himself to put aside his fears and overcome near impossible odds to save the day. In Batman begins, Batman found the courage to fight criminals after his parents were killed. The second cause is a purpose. In 2001, the Twin Towers fell to terrorist attacks. Military enlistments reached all-time highs as many men and women joined the armed forces. For many of these people, the prospect of serving their country, and gaining revenge for their
“Nothing can make injustice just but mercy.” As Robert Frost taught us when he said this, that only injustice can truly be made just by mercy a belief strongly expressed by Bruce Wayne. Batman Begins, directed by Christopher Nolan explores the conflicts within Gotham’s two different socioeconomic classes, and the conflict both internally in Bruce and between Ra 's Al Ghul. Collectively, these complex conflicts teach us about the importance of standing up to injustice and corruption. Batman Begins is set in a futuristic city that is riddled with organized crime and corruption. In turn Bruce Wayne is challenged with the task of standing up to the injustice within the city of Gotham.
When comics were first coming out, they were not all that popular but in todays’ world, they have become very popular and well known. Several of these comics have been turned into films, which is one of the many reasons why the popularity has been rising over the years. One of the most well known comics is Batman: The Dark Knight Returns. This comic was composed and released in 1986 by Frank Miller. With the usage of Frank Miller’s powerful, intense lines and the artwork done by Klaus Janson’s and Lynn Varley’s it has elevated this comic up to the very top of mainstream comics. In Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, the skillful illustrations on the pages successfully create the thought that there are underlying meanings, which makes the atmosphere a very intense one throughout the comic. The work of art that is presented on the pages in this comic are embedded in such a way that the pages become the continuum for the meaning. One of the main themes that are imbedded on the pages through the artwork in this book is the ideological struggle between Bruce Wayne and Batman.
This is one of the most inspirational documentaries I have ever watched. The documentary is, at its heart, about the inspirational power of stories. The fact that they used the Batman character as their focus brings the power of stories into modern understanding. Although I feel they may have put a little too much focus on Batman as the driving Idea it is not really about Batman the actual character. As much as it is about the amazing people and their personal stories. The stories in this film are inspirational and amazing. The people that this movie is about either use the Batman character as an example to overcome a great struggle in their lives or as an example to live up to while trying to help as many people as they can with no thought
